Autopsy Autopsy vs Richmond

Strangely, that was the worst we've played in weeks—yet also our only win in that time. Footy’s a bizarre game.

Some clear positives, though. Kerch showed a noticeable lift in intent, and Duurz wasn’t far behind. Looks like they both got a rev-up during the week and responded well. Ten tackles from Kerch is massive—great to see.

Larkey’s work rate arguing with the umps could singlehandedly power a wind farm.

LDU gave up on multiple chases—poisonous stuff, really disappointing to see.

Bailey Scott isn’t on the trash heap just yet, but he’s in career-worst form right now.

On the bright side: Hardeman is rapidly entering man-crush territory.
LDU really frustrated me today. It took until late in the game for him to take hard body contact, win the ball and dish and we looked so much better when he did - why he doesn't put that effort in earlier when we can put the game away I have no idea. He really needs to be more willing to fight for loose balls like Wardlaw does - just has way too little hate when it comes to losing individual contests.

Do you blame Larkey when he is being shoved, blocked and a ragged while at the other end you couldn’t breathe on that germ Lynch without them giving him a free.

Not hard to be pissed off as a forward when there are clear double standards to officiating a contest.
I think if he actually stops complaining then human nature is he will get rewarded. The umps won’t give him the ones that they don’t feel are blatant.
He appeals to t(e umol’s far too much for my liking. Just keep competing.

**** off with all the negativity.
We won. **** everyone else.
Enjoy it. Save the sad bullshit for when we loose.
Lovely day the the G. Held on to win. I’m going to enjoy it.
Once again - **** all of you negative twats.
I think the best thing about the day you're missing is that the ****ing faithful are 100% behind this Club. There had to be 20,000 North there, I've never seen a smaller discrepancy in my life against the Tigers.

When we start flying it's going to de wonderful that 'we' saved this club for our kids and theirs.

Truly remarkable from where we've been. And absolutely worth noting because I'd say that it our biggest away attendance since I dunno, probably 1994 against the Dishlickers at Weastons Oval. I shit you not.

Well ****ing done team faithful.

You can only beat who’s on the field and we did what we had to do I guess. If it wasn’t for a few Richmond mistakes, this could be a very different conversation. But after getting close against Port and Essendon, drawing against the Lions, I’ll take a close one that goes our way against any opposition. And not like we’ve only been matching it with woeful teams - the fact that we should’ve beaten Brisbane and probably won the couple games before it makes me feel better about the month. They’ve all been respectable opponents who could slaughter us on their day.

The effort that was missing in the Sydney and Carlton games - it was there in spades. That’s all was asking for. I’m really happy with the progress of Finn O’Sullivan and I’m obviously stoked with Wardlaw every week. This was the best game I’ve seen Kerch play. Dylan Stephens is a lot better, big X just keeps being a beast and Pink is incredible. We saw the benefit of bringing Jack Darling in today as well.

I don’t want to focus on the negatives. My only hope is that we get it right from here with who we recruit. These young players need their effort vindicated by leaders who can lead when it matters, not cancelled out by skill errors and brain fades.

We’ve seen the ceiling of Corr, McDonald and co, they’re not going to get any better but in the meantime we just have to hope some of these senior players don’t disillusion the kids in the progress they’re making. I can definitely see what Parker has brought to the team. I remain disappointed with Daniel - we might as well have kept Aaron Hall for another couple years.

If we’re bottom 4 and only beating the likes of Richmond and West Coast this year, it’s going to be a failure of a year make no mistake. But I’m not throwing the baby out with the bathwater and calling for Clarkson’s head (unless we see a few monumental blowouts) this year. For mine he gets next year to build on this progress. We’re more competitive.. but we are carrying a lot of dead wood and don’t seem to be investing any time in skills. But because I’ve got no choice, I’m throwing all-in with the belief that Clarkson and co. have bigger priorities in rebuilding this entire football club, I’ll hope to see it come together as quickly as he keeps saying it can. We’ll see. I also have a lot of reservations over his selection process, who he rewards and overlooks and the message it sends, his choice for the sub.. and sometimes I start to think this team choc-full of high draft picks is getting marginally better despite Clarkson and not because of him.

Again, we’ll see.

Another 1 or 2 Parkers in the offseason and we could be near the 8 next year.

But we’re here this time next year, 1-9 or whatever, barely eking out wins against Richmond, he’ll have had his time and it’ll be time to move on.

So for today, I’ll take an ugly win in a relatively solid month. Continuing to believe we should aim higher than we are, but acknowledging that our progress could be a lot worse. I’m very underwhelmed but these four weeks have given me more hope than I’ve had for a while. I’d like to see where it goes.

Didn’t stop them from giving no existent free kicks to that germ Lynch with him constantly whinging like a bitch.

He takes himself out of too many live situations when he does this, he is a really good ball user and has great goal sense even on the run so yeah just keep going SOUV

I needed to cool down after Richmond kicked a goal with about 9 minutes remaining so I went for a walk to cool down to see us through the final minute.

Once the siren went i shouted so loud fist pumping. My puppy got excited with me.
I was up and beating my thighs into a sore mess when we were wavering as the line approached. I was shouting “why North, why”. 🤣 Such a relief.

Part of the reason the game felt so weird was two-fold: most stoppages (139) in any game for nearly two years (!) dating back to Brisbane v Adelaide in Round 11, 2023.

And also the most combined tackles (184) in a game this year, and going back to Adelaide v St Kilda in Round 18 last year. If I've got my reading right on that second point, anyway.

Put those two together and the funkiness of today makes sense I reckon. And also probably a good thing to not capitulate under that pressure even if it registered negative style points.

We are slowly building something special. Hopefully, it all comes together. Is this uplift in support an accident? I’d like to think Sonja and our AFLW champs are a crucial factor in it.

I agree but he concedes plenty of contests without someone hanging off him. He's a good player, but he needs to be much less willing to just allow the ball out when he doesn't have prime position. It's the difference between being very good or great.

A close win will do wonders for the players and their self belief.

Still a few lessons to take from the game. The only thing that Bailey Scott should be doing on game day is delivering water to the players. Should be no where near the best 22.

Duursma unfortunately needs a spell in the two’s to regain some form and confidence. Not alarm bells just yet however not exactly the progress you’d like to see from a number 3 pick.

L1 M33 was rocking, after some twat was escorted out by police BEFORE the game started!
Wonderful. I will never understand why the MCG allows Richmond fans in the Ponsford on days like today. You have Public Sections in both the Northern and Southern Stands for home support, Ponsford for away fans only. Is it that hard?

The two-tired nature is getting 'Ken tiresome. We seem to get the ass end each week, I don't like umpiring bashing but it's a thing, we need to say something now before this shit costs us a big game. How difficult is it to just pay the obviously ones? Outrageous by the lime green maggots.
I hope we put a video together comparing Lynch’s treatment to Larkeys. Kingy should be bringing this shit up.
