Dont underestimate getting a win at the G,we rarely play there and if todays game is at marvel we win easily
It's a football ground. Unless you're playing at Geelong or some other ground that has weird dimensions it should be the same. We were very sloppy and should have capitalised on what should have been a comfortable win. I'd kill to clean up some of the ridiculous turnovers.

3: BARRIER BROKEN

It might have been the biggest player hoodoo in the game.

Across nine seasons and 161 matches North Melbourne captain Jy Simpkin had never tasted victory on the MCG.

If the Kangaroos were ever going to graduate to the next level of its rebuild phase, this next step at the home of football was a doozy.

But it is perhaps no surprise the Kangaroos players rushed to Simpkin at the final siren after holding on against Richmond on Sunday.

Simpkin had lost his grandmother as part of an emotional week for the gun playmaker after last week fumbling the crucial play on the wing which cost them victory against Brisbane Lions.

But the club found an unlikely hero in key defender Toby Pink who not only pulled off an inspirational chase down tackle early in the last term to trap Thomas Sims bounding down the wing on his own.

Pink also took the match winning final minute intercept mark on Tom Lynch with a little shove in the side which brushed aside the Tigers' veteran.

Pink has been in and out of the side but this was a clutch play from the man who is fighting for his career.

Luke Davies-Uniacke also showed more of the power and clean-ball handling which had escaped him at times this year after signing the bumper deal to stay at Arden St.

And youngsters Harry Sheezel, George Wardlaw and Colby McKercher combined for 30 tackles and 81 pressure acts in an improved sign of their defensive commitment.

Broadly, this was a much better effort at the death from North Melbourne which had faced criticism for its lack of scenario-based training to help stimulate close game finishes.

They had blown in the past couple of weeks but after making some time for it at training during the week, Alastair Clarkson's men came up trumps.

LDU really frustrated me today. It took until late in the game for him to take hard body contact, win the ball and dish and we looked so much better when he did - why he doesn't put that effort in earlier when we can put the game away I have no idea. He really needs to be more willing to fight for loose balls like Wardlaw does - just has way too little hate when it comes to losing individual contests.
This. Lopes when chasing - doesn’t sprint, just lopes. As if it doesn’t matter to him all that much. Just needs to set a better example. And the pass to Jy in the last Q. Oh boy.

Special mention

Wardlaw - Love the way he goes about it
not the most prolific this game but the early stages of the last quarter was massive and such a bull
FOS probably needs to get to the VFL for a 4-5 week reset just seems unsure at times and needs to gain confidence then bring back into the team.
Scott - Delist asap
Sympkin - Needs to hand over the C

FOS vfl? Brudda wahhh.

Refreshing as it was making the walk to the MCG, getting the win and hearing the club theme song after the game….

I can’t help but think…we only played 1 good quarter. The 2nd was the polar opposite to the 1st. We did enough to get the win after halftime, but I don’t know.

We also won despite playing like shit against a side that threw everything they had at us, including a record breaking level of pressure. Which we stood up to.

Thought Colby made a step forward today.

Looks confident again around stoppage. Played more inside up around the ball
Has had bigger games but that was definitely his most complete.

Truly laughable that he can contribute 10 tackles now apparently. He was looking like going at about 10 tackles a year a month ago.

It really is an illusion v mindset thing…….he has looked almost small in stature for the past 4+ odd weeks. Didn’t look small out there at all today.

We did sort of obsorb that pressure in the 3rd but our inability to pressure back is concerning, 4 or 5 times richmond were able to carry the ball coast to coast unhindered.

Agree it was certainly hard on him... but he has got to stop squealing at the umpires every time he's breathed on. Word.
Didn't seem to do Lynch any harm.

So were we despite their pressure.

There was a point today where it was 275 - 245 or thereabouts. Thats massive and it was in the second quarter, no wonder both sides struggled late. They'd have been cooked. Richmond have a game on Friday night too. Dreamtime game. * might owe us.
