I might be going the early call here but considering the lack of depth in the draft, lack of Free Agents, and not many trade targets, I don't think we'll cut that deep into the list this year. A couple of fringe players who'd I'd happily give a one year deal now.

OOC at the end of the year:

Tucker - gone
CCJ - gone
Payne - 50/50
Bergman - gone
Phillips - 1 year deal
Goater - 1 year deal
Pink - 1 year deal
Harvey - gone
Maley - 1-2 year deal
Ford - 1 year deal
Dawson - gone
Teakle - 1 year deal as ruck depth.

5 delistings. Take one player in the MSD on a 6 month contract for Bergman. Then we either take 4 or 5 picks to the ND & Rookie drafts.

First thing, several respected posters on here are very confident McCartney will choose us, personally I’m not buying in to this latest “ITK”.

Second thing bigger picture with Father Sons, what do you honestly expect the club to do it’s the kid’s decision / career they are going to do what’s best for them. It’s no different to free agents, until we’re competitive we’re not an attractive proposition, no amount of engagement is going to change that.
I hope you are right on first point.

Second point, I’m talking about our club’s pathetic lack of voice when we had a 200+game, multiple premiership player’s son even being eligible for an interstate club. It’s an absolute crock of shit. Of course a 17-18 year old kid is going to choose to stay at home, particularly when that home club has been like a second home to him because his father worked there the majority of his life. That is complete garbage.
Blakey didn’t have to commit to North, but what the **** is with the leg up that he can stay in Sydney and play there? How’s that work? It’s pathetic..
Now we have another FS in a similar situation, although he is in Sydney’s academy and not the Giants.
The academies are meant to be achieving several things
  • A pathway for kids who might not necessarily have grown up with AFL.
  • A pathway for state grown kids to remain in their home state and assist with building the AFL brand
Where T F does it even make sense that sons of past premiership players or long-serving players are eligible for the state “dad moved to for work????”

We should have been far more vocal on what a load of garbage this is. Watch Hawthorn when the Hodge kid rolls around.
Blakey is a star and we should have fought a lot bloody harder.
Usual disappointing North amateur hour. About time we grew up.

I was always under the impression McCartney's boys would be at North. I may have misread tbe situation.
Mate I have no idea. I hope you are right. But the shithouse thing is we have to “hope”. It’s a flawed system being rorted, of course, by the 3 clubs the CorruptFL owns.

Shouldn't father sons take first priority over academy players?
Much like the MRO and weekly umpiring it clearly depends on which club is the “priority” doesn’t it.
We are being sold a steaming pile of shit as a “competition”. Equalisation couldn’t be further from reality.

Figured that. Us against them. Can't wait until we win the premiership and say f*** you to the afl.

We will have to do it with a hand tied behind our back though. Can guarantee if we ever get there we will be the side in the finals with the 5 day break, or a 6 day break after travelling interstate.
We get nothin. That’s ok, f**k em!!!!

Sorry I misinterpreted that. And yes I completely agree. I suspect we were too scared to say anything because we were so reliant on the AFL for handouts. Had it been the son of a Collingwood player we know how Eddie McGuire would have handled it and what the outcome would have been. It’s was absolutely gutless by the club.

We should have cut harder last year, when the draft was deeper. I'm guessing between 6 and 8 get cut. We don't need to replace them all, and we may not be able to if we lose our extra spots. Hopefully we attract a quality free agent.

Tucker - gone
CCJ - gone
Bergman - gone
Harvey - gone
Teakle - gone
Phillips - gone, needs to go elsewhere
Ford - probably gone
Dawson - probably gone
Payne - 1 year
Goater - 1 year
Pink - 1 year
Maley - 1 year

* It should be noted that I tried this at about the same time last year and had Archer getting pushed back to the rookie list. Shortly afterwards he started channeling his dad.

Brandon Starcevich (Brisbane)
Tom De Koning (Carlton)
James Worpel (Hawthorn)
Oscar Allen (West Coast)

Oscar?
Got a prediction for you all 4 players mentioned above will NOT be at the NMFC in 2026.
1:Starcevich-Concussion problems might have to retire.
2:De Koning will be at Carlton in 2026
3:Worpel will be playing for Geelong in 2026.
4:we be at Hawthorn in 2026

Would $725k x 2 with a coaching gig x 3 @ $225k get him over the line/be sufficiently insured?

The numbers might be off but Concussion issues or not, these are the deals we should be trying to get over the line.

Wil Dawson had played CHF in the Scoobs and just about best on. He at CHF would be ideal with young Ayden playing as the 3rd Tall in 2027 and beyond.

Leaves us with this for 2026:

B: MWhitlock Pink Hardeman
HB: Archer Comben Goater
C: Duursma Sheezel FOS
HF: Curtis WDawson Zurhaar
F: Parker Larkey Simpkin
R: Xerri LDU Wardlaw
I: Powell Maley McKercher Stephens
Sub: Phillips

Em: Goad Logue Corr Konstanty, Pick ~31, Pick ~35, Daniel, Tucker, Payne

Draft picks at this point in time (somehow from limited viewing): Archie Ludowyck, Basil Hart, Lachie McGlade
Got some news for you McDonald will be in your team Goater maybe as iv heard he may play out the year in the 2nds and I think Phillips maybe wanting out and Darling will play 1st up then rested in games for either W.Dawson and Maley.
As for potential Draft picks all will start in the VFL with this year MSD unless 1 or 2 of these players dominate in Pre Season.

Your team...? Got him yes!

Our team, crettin.

Although I highly doubt you're actually a North fan, if I had to bet on that outcome - I'd say you're a jungle-themed onesie wearer personally and would happily place (with some confidence) a green monster on that outcome at $1.69

iam probably seeing an outcome somewhere between yours and roo fanatics,

these 4 are likely lay-down miseres,
Tucker - gone
CCJ - gone
Bergman - gone
Harvey - gone

close to locks.
Payne - 1 year
Goater - 1 year
Pink - 1 year
Maley - 1 year

Wilphil i would be keeping and trying as a Forward pocket or small defender because you just dont get a lot of access to players with his positives.

After that Ford and Teakle could be spared depending on how we and them track for the rest of the year.

Kallum has probably stamped his own exit papers the last few weeks.

Well I could say same thing about you mate obviously you must walk around in the dark with no knowledge what has been happening at our club for last decade.
You see our club is a joke to a lot of the football public from the AFL to opposition supporters and if you think everything is going great you’re a fool.
As for McDonald who believe it or not is probably having a better season then expected and knowing this club will give him a 1 year extension into 2027 as for Rawlings he will continue in his role and will keep falling over like a drunken toad trying to do his job.
I just want accountability on and off the field at this club and to see this club be successful again.
So with that you Adam Brandt wanna be call me A-hole Cu-t what ever you want but if being a supporter of this club since 1972 and iv been lucky to see all the premierships,Losing Grand Finals and Finals and watched some of the best at this club play from Blight to Harvey .
So go away have a Co-e and watch some TV on your wave link like Cheech and Chong and have a think about things.

Clearly our issues are deep in the backline.

Daniel, Corr, MacDonald, Tucker well past it.
Goater and Archer always injured.

Mainstays of Hardemann, Comben, Pink atm. They are limited experience wise.

Who is out there?

Who is out there?

Leek Aleer would be commanding ridiculous sums at the moment despite not getting a game all year.

Zach Reid is out of contract. His body's dependability has been Comben-esque. Shown promise this year though. I would see if his manager picks up the phone.

OOC battlers who would nevertheless give current day Corr a run for his money: Dougal Howard and Sam Frost.

Depending on whether he can get through the rest of the year unscathed, Starcevich as a free agent is worth a decent offer.

Laverde and Cordy are this year's break-glass variety of UFA KPDs.

I'm currently in the Uk doing a bit of work, and being starved of footy, I made the mistake of watching 'First Up' on the AFl website with Sarah Ollie serving up loaded questions to our favourite expert, the failed fireman.

Jeezus. The whole segment on the Richmond game was devoted to .....Richmond. Not a single moment given to the team that actually won the game, but a monologue on how good the tigers are, with a crowning glory to Kane - 'who's list would you rather have'?

well no surprises in the answer, so in an effort to find something to do to stay out of the pub, I had a look at the list demographics - Rick18 your thoughts welcome

This is what it looks like for the 23 who played:

Thanks to Darling and Parker, North were a bit older, and with more experience - no surprises.

But IMO the strength of the North list is in the age profile - Richmond, having let go Rioli, Bolton etc have a massive hole in the key 26-29 cohort, with only Hopper and Taranto in that group. Both are poor users (rating 10% below for example LDU in disposal efficiency), whereas the North cohort is Pink, Daniel, Simpkin, Zurhaar, Xerri and Larkey - leaving Toby and Daniel to one side, I'd argue Simpkin, Zurhar, Xerri and Larkey would get a game in most sides.

If you then look at the group (age 22-25) coming through to the sweet spot of their prime years, Richmond have a group of good ordinary footballers in prospect (dow, Mansell, Ralphsmith, ross, banks) but only really one elite prospect (Balta). Compare that to the smaller North group (comben, LDU, Scott, Powell, Stephens). Leaving aside Scott's current problems, I'd take LDU and Comben over any of the Richmond group, with Powell and Stephens at least the equal of any but Balta.

Of course all the hype about Richmond is the 18-21 group, and there's no doubt Lalor looks a star, Trainor is shaping well and there's Armstrong in the mix but not on the park. But then Harry, Wardlaw, FOS, McKercher and Hardeman are all elite prosects, and there's Wil Dawson and Goad learning their trade in the 2s.

I humbly conclude that the North list is in better shape in the next 3-4 years, and Richmond are further out

Totally agree. All these reports of Richmond’s successful rebuild are grossly premature. Not to say they don’t have any young talent - they certainly do - but their rebuild still has a long way to go.
