MVP AFLCA Coaches Votes - 2025

Was no point starting this thread last week given the predictable donuts we received from the Suns match

But we did snag a couple vs Brisbane, albeit I think for a game we lost by only 3 goals we’ve arguably been shortchanged

IMG_6199.jpeg

Ryan got 2 votes and Kelly 1 vote with both coaches having differing views on who was best - agreement that Neale and Andrews were the best two on the ground but opposite on who was BOG

Then totally different allocation of the 3-2-1 votes.

Can’t believe we only got 3 of the 30 votes on offer for that game and Dewar didn’t get a look in.

Typical East Coast bias.

It's a bit of a head scratcher considering we led for the majority of the game and arguably had the tide turn against us with weight of umpire calls and losing both rucks, one intermittently.

Not like the Lions really flexed on us that hard.

Zorko getting votes and Berry getting none is wild to me.

Dewar robbed of Rising Star too, this goes all the way to the top.
just saw O'Sullivan from Geelong got the rising star, bizarre he played well but Dewar was a class above anyone on the weekend!!!

Dewar will get one soon. They normally give it to someone who's been good over a few weeks. And although it's only been 2 rounds so far it was probably flip of a coin.

After a 3 week hiatus due to be flogged and receiving no votes, there’s been some movement following a narrow loss to Essendon

Once again though, in a game decided by less than a goal we received just 7 of the 30 votes available

IMG_6300.jpeg

Leaves the WCE leaderboard as

5 - Hewett
2 - Ryan
1 - Kelly, Waterman, McGovern

Out of a possible 180 votes this season, we have 10

Yes, mysterious that we got so few votes in a game decided by 2 points.

Would the votes have been the same if WC kicked a goal in the last minute?

I know many highly regard the coaches votes but I’m always suspicious that there could be other issues in the mind of the coach rather than simply naming the best five on the ground.

Someone gets votes to reward their efforts. Someone doesn’t because they deserve a clip. Or didn’t follow team rules. Etc.

They’re hardly neutral judges.

Check out the player ratings on that one,
Wright - 20.5 pts
Waterman & Martin both 17.4
Then Flynn - 15.2
Hewett - 14.3

McGrath was 17th on 8.4 so I have no idea how he got 7 votes, Perplexing to say the least.

Coaches votes for the Richmond game are in.

IMG_6380.jpeg

Two point margin. After a fast start, Richmond’s lead never reached double figures again. Fifteen lead changes. Both sides won two quarters

Richmond votes - 23
West Coast votes - 7

Graham got 3 from one coach and 1 from the other. Cripps got 3 votes from one coach meaning one of the coaches only deemed one eagles player to be in the best 5

Our club tally is now 17 (of a possible 270) and our leaderboard looks like this :

5 - Hewett
4 - Graham
3 - Cripps
2 - Ryan
1 - Kelly, Waterman, McGovern

For last nights game.

7 Jack Graham (WCE)
7 Liam Baker (WCE)
5 Brady Hough (WCE)
4 Liam Ryan (WCE)
3 Harley Reid (WCE)
2 Rowan Marshall (STK)
2 Jack Higgins (STK)

Running total:

11 - Graham
7 - Baker
6 - Ryan
5 - Hewett
5 - Hough
3 - Reid
3 - Cripps
1 - Kelly, Waterman, McGovern

Weird distribution of votes for that game

Looks something like

5: J.Graham 5: B.Hough
4: L.Ryan 4: L.Baker
3: L.Baker 3: H. Reid
2: J. Higgins 2: J. Graham
1: R.Marshall 1: R.Marshall

(Graham/Baker and Higgins/Marshall could each swap places)

Is this a guess as i have never seen a breakdown by coaches.
Sometimes the breakdown is reasonably straight forward.
Usually each coach favours one of their own players.
The fact that the votes are spread seems to validate a even team performance.
