Condolences Blues fans and RIP Wallsy. My old man played against him in the early days and described him as a right campaiger! But that was only because he was tougher and better. Always respected his straight shooting style and whilst it is sad that he is gone, in a way I'm glad he was able to make the call himself. (I wish my old man was able to make the same decision) Thoughts with his family, friends and the CFC and its fans

The first game I attended was a Carlton v Richmond game at Princes Park in 1976.
Walls kicked 10 goals!

I was at the MCG city end just behind the goals at the 1972 Grand Final. I was hoping Carlton would beat Richmond, even though the Blues had broken my heart the week prior.
Prior to the Grand Final I had no idea that Robert Walls was so good. He dominated on the biggest stage of all, and the Blues triumphed kicking the grand total of 28 goals 9 behinds, 177.
On a light note, as it rained goals that day, supporters kept pinching the match balls as they arrived in the crowd, ball after ball. Everyone was getting into the action and pointing at innocent supporters, pretending that they were the culprits. A great day!

I remember smiling, happy larrikins having a great time. Pretty harmless banter.
Incredible larger than life personalities and characters everywhere. Both on and off the field. Seemingly innocent times.
Noise, colours, streamers, balloons, smoke, smell of booze...
Tremendous experience.

I was born too late to see Wallsy play (and coach) but he was one of the footy voices of my childhood.

While Spud's death in 2019 upset me and left me in denial due to the built up years listening to Triple M, I can't help feel like Wallsy's death is a big sucker punch to my childhood.

More and more, the older folk of my childhood die one by one and the folk in the media gradually become my age cohorts.

Robert Walls’ significant contributions to Carlton, Brisbane and the great Australian game will be acknowledged with a medal struck in his honour.

Robert Walls’ significant contributions to Carlton, Brisbane and the great Australian game will be acknowledged with a medal struck in his honour.

The inaugural Robert Walls Medal will be presented to the player adjudged Best On Ground when Carlton meets Brisbane in the Round 18 contest at Marvel Stadium on Thursday 10 July – as a mark of respect to Walls, who passed away at the age of 74 on May 15 this year.
