Destroy the Saints and make King never want to sign with them
Honestly, when St Kilda sent that tweet on his draft night saying see you in two years I reckon Ben hardened his heart against them. They picked Max, the twin who they had favoured and courted during their entire draft year even while he was kicking bags for Haileybury, Sandringham and Vic Metro. Max did his rehab with listed St Kilda players in their shared facility with Sandringham.

They might be twins and St Kilda might be the club they followed as a family, but Ben has been forthright in the media saying he would remain at the Suns until the end of his contract. No doubt there's money for him since the salary cap has gone up by $5 million a year since his last contract.

Well deserved to take some big chunks of the cap up if he kicks 70+ this year.

He built this club

A smart contract has in-built incentives, which can now include things like Coleman Medal placing, making finals, winning flags etc. The length can also play into the club's hands, for example, 8 years at $12 million can be back-ended for when the cap increases can easily take the hit. Opt out clauses too, such as Mac's contract.

Gee Saint Kilda losing to West Coast means this is the ultimate danger game
Woke up, saw the score and immediately went "pencil us in for a 13 point loss next Sunday"

if our midfield is truly back, we should destroy them.

Macrae has been shut down, Steele just tackles, Pou & NWM both pretty rusty on Midfield IQ in there. Sinclair ok but robbing peter to pay paul.

Can't play Moyle against Marshall

Expect Ross the boss to defend hard. As west coast destroyed them with speed and fast ball movement. Could be a low scoring Snorefest like last year

I thought their skills under pressure yesterday were woeful, can they hold down Noble, Rioli and Powell?

Feel pretty confident the guys will be a class above and Dimma will have a plan knowing what Ross will try

OK, now this is where one of my pet I-hope-this-happens things comes true.

Alex Davies was the first Japanese guy to play a senior AFL game, while Mitch Owens was the second which happened to be the very next game (albeit last game of 2021 vs 1st game 2022).

Alex was chopping out in the ruck vs Box Hill on Saturday, while Mitch was backing up Marshall yesterday.

Bring Davies in for Moyle (nothing against Ned) to make the Suns more dynamic.

Would be good to see especially with Graham out now.

Flanders still needs more minutes not sure how his back is going.

For a club that came into the season with a question mark over our small/general forwards, we must have one of the best groups. Ben Long is going at better than 2 goals a game, Touk is resting forward and hitting the scoreboard, while Will Graham was filling that role. Rosas, Holman, Swallow and Flanders are getting the job done too.

I hope we can overcome the bad omens coming in to this game : This venue, Saints coming off a bad loss, Hardwicks coaching record vs Lyon.
Getting a win would build on the belief.

We need to be focussed and on our game. The Saints are hobbled (even moreso with Macrae out) but this is the type of game we like to lose.

TAP TAP
Get the win in this one and 2025 will officially become the best start to a season that we've ever had. 7-2 was the exact moment it all started to fall apart in 2014 and we all know how that season ended. A win over St Kilda would mark our 8th win for the season and that's historically significant for us.

The Saints would be really low on confidence right now and I think the Selwood (RIP) situation inspiring West Coast to their first win of the season has actually meant the Saints have avoided the amount of criticism that would have had them ridiculously fired up to beat us on Sunday if the game had been played under normal circumstances. Add in the probable Macrae withdrawl and the signs are looking good for us.

Bookies currently have us as strong $1.50 favourites at the moment. I hope we live up to that billing on Sunday and start to turn Marvel into a happy hunting ground going forward.

We win. Rowell will sign on for two years
If Rowell only wants 2 years it might be better to trade him. The risk is that he wants to go to a club with no draft capital, but the risk of him walking in 2 years into Free Agency is that we would only get a late 1st round pick in compensation. The best path (aside from signing him long term) is to trade him next year for the highest trade value.

This is how I’m feeling about it. Tired of being over a barrel by these guys. Time to start putting them over it instead. When you see these academy kids playing for the jumper - it makes you wonder.

Trade him to Geelong for Jack Bowes and Ted Clohesy plus a future first, give the money to the players who are loyal and put 10 years on Ben King.
