I think he still has a role in the side if he can get past injury. I think he is in an uphill battle to be retained though, and will likely be delisted at the end of the season.

So far every time, he has broken into the side late in a contract year, done enough to see that when fit he can get to best 22 level, got a new contract, been injured to start the next season, repeat.
Sturt is contracted for next year

Sure. Until someone bids on Whan at 5 and we’re left standing there with our dick in our hand
You can live trade that pick out

It's always super expensive to trade in to the first round on draft night, we would have multiple suitors to get it done, just take the best offer

Whan aint going that high anyway

We’d never trade for anyone. Arguably our most expensive trade was an uncontracted player.

Just need West Coast out of the picture and we’ll pay a fair price. For some reason they remained in the picture for Jackson and Bolton despite neither having an interest in going to West Coast. Baker and Kelly as well if you reverse the situation. It’s a trend both clubs would be better off seeing the end of.

Hopefully West Coast realise the need to go full rebuild mode and then we’re after completely different players.
WC are so crap, they will desperately grab anybody if there is value so will keep us Honest for at least 5 years till they turn it around.

Geelong trade for a lot players that are out of contract, they seem to do ok at the trade table. Compare what we paid for Shai Bolton, with what the cats paid for Bailey Smith.

Jackson - 2 first and a 2nd rounder
Bolton 10,11, 18 with 14 back

Smith - Pick 16 (slipped to 25 in the draft)
Dangerfield - Pick 9 and 28
Cameron was 13,15,20 with 24 and 27 coming back.

The Jackson trade is inexcusable. He was out of contract, and we just had to play our hand way better.

Yeah look while I generally agree we overpay there is something slightly fishy going on down at Geelong and most of the afl world seems to tacitly acknowledge that.

Jacksons trade looks worse with hindsight. If we hadnt shat the bed in 23 and maintained our relative ladder position the trade would be Pick 13 (15 with bids) and pick 13 (18 after bids) + a pick in the 40's. Probably about what he was worth after turning the tide in the 21 grand final as a 20yo. Instead we got snake eyes and paid 13 (15 with bids) and 5 (7 with bids) + 34.

Its tough because would we all do the trade again? Yes, absolutely, we got the talent for unders but it was till terrible trading compared to other teams.

Finishing 14th with 10 wins is crazy though. Most other years it would be 10th or 11th. Before the expansion teams, I think a few teams made finals with 10 wins.

Hopefully Melbourne remember that when they are arguing over Kosi and the value of our F1.

I wouldn't do the trade again, because he hasn't shown he can play with Darcy.

I think if he played any other position the trade would have been a win. (Maybe not key back or key forward, as we have enough players in those positions)

Darcy hasn't been on the park, not Jackson's fault so we'd be stuck watching Reidy instead...

Oh yeah, true
Can you imagine the games they would have played together though after Meek emerged at the start of 24 while Darcy was injured.

Darcy comes back in Rd 6 and Meek has just started to fly. He then spends 75% of the game forward and looks crap. Darcy gets injured at the back half of the year and Meek takes over.

Trade week would have been fun with two good rucks with no second position.

Nothing new really but latest on gettable:

Jackson story has legs (obviously). Can’t see how Melbourne get it done. Current and former teammates are aware.
I believe all the talk that he has currently told Freo he’s happy and he’s staying, but he’ll make his actual intentions known before the end of the season.

Same as when everyone Freo side knew Neale wanted to come back and Brisbane were completely blindsided.

End of the day if they want to be a serious club it really shouldn’t matter what Jackson wants.

If that’s true, Melbourne will use it as leverage to either keep Kosi or get Jackson. We might not get both and have to wait instead which I’m fine with.

More likely Kozzy stays at this point I reckon. Which I’m fine with. Means there’s no incentive to trade Jackson who’s much more important

So two trades* that occured before future pick trading existed and Bailey Smith coming off a knee (who is sh*t in any case. Ask yourself what would you have paid for Bailey Smith? An inside out mid that can't kick: About as useful as **** on a bull.).

I actually think in the new inflated market that future trading has created (Tom Barras with a f*cked back at 29 for 1st and and 2nd? Lachie Shultz for an 1st??) that we didn't over pay by all that much. And that overpay is a result of the mutually assured destruction cycle we seem to be locked into with West Coast where each keeps jumping in on each others trades and setting higher prices.

At the moment it's mostly funny as their small mindedness is actively sabotaging their rebuild (Baker lol) but I'm going to stop laughing if it interferes further in rounding out the list we have built for sustained challenging.

*Those were also trades where they were only going to Geelong. They are they only country club in Victoria and they have their 15% salary cap concession due their board having photos of every male executive of the AFL that went to Geelong Gramma caught in flagrante delicto or something.

Watch the Vic media tell us that we are being both negligent and unfair in not trading Jackson for Kosi, as we have both committed to Kosi, who is a need for our premiership, and are also being unreasonable in releasing Jackson

The narrative of Kosi for Jackson straight swap has been planted in the media by Melbourne deliberately and the media will absolutely run with it cos they don't see Freo as a main character club

At this point in time i prefer that Kosi stays. Not that i don't want him, i just want to keep LJ more.

Still holding out hope it's a ploy to get a contract extension and payrise.
lol that ship has sailed. maybe that’s what his old manager wanted. but the afl article came out saying his preference was a four year deal and next thing he changes managers and the rumours blow up again and with a lot more strength behind them apparently
