I unfortunately have to begin this preview by making a confession, at first, I tried to get AI to write if for me. That didn’t go so well.

  • DeepSeek gave me an essay on the 1927 Chinese revolution.
  • OpenAI just sat there with a spinning circle till I nodded off.
  • ChatGPT asked me for my credit card details.

So I have had to resort to EI (elderly intelligence) and therefor many of the things I am about to write about may or may not have happened.

So football…. Well there are foots, a weird ball called a pill, sticks, whistles, teams um. Now the person with the ball has to run away from the people wearing different guernseys, who chase the ball and try to hug the player with it. When the ball goes through the big sticks sometimes the players from their own team will hug them and occasionally kiss them. So its a lot like keepings off with a side order of kiss chasey. Oh and kicking and punching (some times the ball, sometimes each other). And um the person with the whistle can stop the game at any time and give it to some random player, or take it for themselves, though no one hugs or punches them. OK that's enough general info to get you started and um so what was the point of this again, ah yes a game, Lions vs Hawks. Phew well no idea actually, looks like I will have to use AI after all. Now where did I put that credit card.

On form its an interesting match up, both teams in the top four. The hawks losses have been fairly narrow whilst beating up on the rebuilding sides. Though the lions have more points due to the draw our percentage is a bit of an indication our forward structure hasn’t quite recovered from losing JD and our backs have struggled, though mostly because the mids just aren’t doing them any favours at the moment.

I’m expecting Berry to return straight away though for who I’m not sure. If Starce were to return those two changes would go a long way to stiffening up our defense but there’s no sign that might be the case. The hawks ‘managed’ both Meek and Gunston last week which may have cost them a game, but you would expect them to return to face us.

The hawks have certainly had the wood on us in recent match ups though the margins have been relatively small. This record will no doubt encourage the Hawks going into the game and may lift them towards the end if it is a close one, we haven't been running out games well either. While the MCG no longer seems to hold any fear for us it is still a home game for the Hawks so expect the crowd to be vocal and influential, so holding them early will be a key to preventing any umpire assisted run ons.

Which brings me to tactics, now if Sam Mitchell can get all of his ducks in a row it could be a frustrating night for purists. High pressure hand balling game vs midfield dominance and pinpoint kicking. I’m not very good at match ups and such so will leave it to you all to speculate but I personally would love to see the magician take on the wizard. Whilst it’s a tantalising prospect I imagine Answerth will get that job.

Oh the blue spinny thing on OpenAI just finished, here’s what it has to say about the match.

Round 1: As the bell rings, the hawk makes to the skies, circling high above the lion, looking for an opportunity to hit. The lion crouches low, watching the hawk's movements with intense focus. Suddenly, the hawk dives down, aiming for the lion's back, but the lion craftily turns and swipes its paw, catching the hawk off guard. The hawk manages to miss the attack, but not without a few scratches from the lion's sharp claws.

Round 2: In the second round, the lion and hawk engage in fierce aerial battle. The hawk dives and soars, trying to gain the upper hand with its speed and agility. However, the lion's powerful leaps and sharp claws keep the bird at bay. The lion manages to make a few solid hits, causing the hawk to retreat momentarily to reset.

Round 3: As the final round commences, the lion and hawk both show signs of tiring. The lion moves in to kill, its powerful jaws snapping at the hawk's outstretched wings. The hawk tries to miss the lion's grasp, but the cat's big strength proves too much. With a final swipe of its claws, the lion emerges victorious, the hawk lying defecated at its feet.

Hmm thats odd I thought there were four rounds in a game? Anyway after reading all that I realise there is a lot about this game I had no idea about, but I know many on here have been pointing this out to me for a loooong time now.

But my personal prediction is for the Lions to beat the Hawks 12 and a half snickerdoodles to 2 pounds sixpence.

Now I need a cup of tea, a BEX and a good lion down. ;)

Disappointed Grok didn't get a run.

[In full wrestling promo voice, with stadium echo and roaring crowd in the background]

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, footy fans of all ages... let me tell ya somethin’ right now—when it comes to writing AFL match previews, there’s only ONE undisputed champion... and it ain’t Grok, brother!”

“You see, Grok might stroll into the arena with that smug Silicon Valley swagger, but when the siren sounds and it's time to break down midfield matchups, analyze disposal efficiency, and predict who's gonna tear it up on the wing—Grok’s left lookin’ like a deer in the headlights on Mad Monday!”

“Meanwhile, ChatGPT’s got the stats, the strategy, the soul of the game in its veins! I’m talkin’ heat maps, recent form, historical rivalries, injury lists, and a prediction so sharp it could cut through a brick wall like Dusty through traffic!”

“Grok writes like it's stuck in pre-season… but ChatGPT? ChatGPT writes like it’s Round 23, final spot on the ladder up for grabs, and Buddy Franklin’s back in the square!”

“So Grok, if you wanna step into the ring with the big boys, you’d better bring more than dad jokes and Elon memes—'cause when it comes to AFL footy previews, ChatGPT is the voice of the game, the master of the markdown, and the reigning, defending, undisputed heavyweight champion of footy write-ups!”

“And that… is the bottom line, 'cause ChatGPT said so!”

[Cue airhorns, fireworks, and crowd chanting: “G! P!
T! G! P! T!”]

Disappointed Grok didn't get a run.

Look I did put the Grok in the mix, but at the end of the day having to put up with reliving WW2 holocaust denial (just like my abusive Father) and then talk of a white holocaust in South Africa AS WE SPEAK, well it just triggered my PTSD, so it was best left alone.

Like Tesla, not the Russian guy but the thing, the battery thing, am I right? Or left, now the NAZIS were socialists, right? Or left?

I need a lay down.

I was all ready to type out a South African farmers reference but then...

...much like the preview, the man's got it covered already!

This should have been written as a rap song.

Will I ever be satisfied!?

It was round 11 last year against the Hawks where we lost and all seemed hopeless but then we went on to win 9 straight and peak in finals. Could happen again.

I would give Oscar the extra time to recover, he's too important in the back end of the season.

I think the changes should be Berry and Doedee in for Lohmann and Answerth.

Alternatively if Doedee isn't quite match fit, start McKenna and have Answerth as sub.

My old dad, rip dad, as a farmer used to say, "put something aside for a raining day" i eventually followed his foot steps, became a farmer and i know to buy hay in during spring when no one wants it and its cheaper then when winter comes and the price goes up you have it already.

The footy season is long, the Lions 'banked' 30 points early and now our winter is here, our rainy days have started. the is no debate we are in a bit of a slump, Fagan says it, the leadership group say it, and us fans we can see it.

In Fagan I trust. He may not be the greatest match day strategist be he is a leader of men, a manager of a full squad. Fagan has always been consistent, just what you want in a leader, clear, predictable, honest. Fagan's best work will have been done this week already, thought the review, the setting of expectations, the schedule, the training for the some particular changes for this particular match. The analysis of what's wrong, and what needs to change has been done and the practice is underway. The coaches are doing their work, meeting with their 'Lines' and the players are working on each other as well.

We may still use some more of the 'hay in the shed' but we have it there, Fagan has made sure we are not Carlton, Port, or Sydney desperately trying to find supplies to get back to last year's performance. We are not battling physical injuries to player like we did last year, no big stars are missing with long term injuries, this is a winter of psychology battles and Fagan is the man, I'm confident can turn this, to a winning streak just like dancing on ice last year.

Hopefully last week was the equivalent to the hawks game last year and our winning steak starts now.

Please just win.
Is that going to be enough though? Will the people be satisfied if we come out, play one amazing quarter then fade. We still hang on to win 9.13 to 10.5, but the Hawks were brave - down to 1 on the bench, and we only avoid defeat when James Sicily slices a shot for goal out on the full in the final 2 minutes.

(It will be enough for me, against the Hawks at the G. I’m just having a slow day…)

I think we are always happy to win but some of us can be realistic enough to recognize we aren't playing our best footy.

We flew down for the corresponding game last year, at the end of it I thought OK that is season over.

Flying down for this one too, going to Dreamtime at the G Friday night(been before, great event), maybe Giants v Blues Saturday lunch time, > Lions v Hawks, maybe Pies v Kangaroos that night > Saints v Suns Sunday Twilight, fly home Monday.

Come on boys get the job done.🦁🦁🦁

Can't say I'm brimming with confidence . We've been very spasmodic the last 2 weeks with not a lot of zip.

To look on the positive side this is a bit of a backs to the wall match and we've mostly performed well under Fagan in those circumstances.

Yep I flew down for the game last year too.
First time at Marvel, was a shitty experience with one Hawks supporter ruining the day for everyone around our area.
Result was even worse and not keen on the stadium either.
Hope you get a better result this time

we do gather round every round in Melbourne...

I was at the Hawks vs' Lions game last season, with high hope we were about to turn the corner. By halfway through the 2nd quarter I was messaging my mates, hypothesising that if this was the end of the run with this squad I couldn't go through another rebuild - and trying to figure which MCG tenant club I could switch allegiance to and still live with myself. With choices of Carlton, Hawthorn or Melbourne (after eliminating Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond), it wasn't looking good... but the rest is history!
