Needless to say we have to tag Merrett
With whom? MacIntosh has gone back to the wing, Merrett would be to clever for him anyway. Tarrant and Hopper need to find the ball because they aren't much good otherwise. McAuliffe, maybe, he ran well enough with Sheezel and Reid, but he's no tagger. Mansell could be tried if he get's out of hand, but I can't see anyone else able to.

Maybe it is just going head to head.

Yeah don’t think Merrett is the type you bother trying to tag
Even with someone running with him his bread and butter is his contested work

He’s still going to probably get his 25 possies but if we can at least match him it’s still a win

Run Hopper head to head with him and hopefully Nank can account for old man Goldstein

Mansell

If we bring in Rioli and Have campbell , Green in the side
If you dont tag him he will get 40 touches and cut us up , Maybe even Ross

Reckon its straight up for Lynch. Obviously doesn't want to play Fawcett, Sims & Faull all at once.
Makes sense in a way as well, call me crazy but I think Ryan’s biggest issue is confidence now and once it clicks and he really has a breakout game he will never look back

Bombers ruck department bats as deep as Goldstein right now

Ryan can probably match him tap wise and has the height to somewhat nullify him as a marking threat and Nank can work him into the ground

Ryan in the VFL is ok, his tap work is fine, it's just when he gets into the senior team it's frustrating watching him get pushed off the ball so easily and fails to take a contested mark. I guess we don't have anything to lose by doing it, not like finals on the line and Ryan still has a ridiculous long contract lol

Steely Green might be an option. He already does a lot of defensive work.

Like Mansell I think he is a little under utilised. I know there is no position in the midfield for him, but he, Campbell and Mansell look to have midfield qualities. All are quick hard at it, especially Mansell and all have good disposal. Green is excellent by foot.

It's a long shot Green tagging, but if Merrett or a similar smallish mid down the track like Neale, who always towels us up, why not.

So, both are big outs but their absence provides opportunity. I hope Sims and Faull can grasp the opportunity as the main targets with both hands but I'm genuinely fearful that they will bring in Ryan. Not because he may actually kick a few goals but because, if he does, it holds back the other development, especially Sims.
I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so!

If he has a breakout game he will have a heart attack caused by wtf just happened  :p

He hasn't got endurance. He can play ok for a couple quarters than not sighted. Even as a forward this happens.

Played in the middle in the WAFL I think. Richmond turned him forward. Seems an obvious one to roll through the middle.

But we have the small forwards just playing forward. MRJ in rotations be good too.

a small chance before the Nank. Lynch injury. no chance now.

Cant agree with this

Merrett's contested work is great, yes.

But he really cuts you up with his kicking if you let him roam free. You have to put some time into him like the dogs did last week.

If you rush his disposal and make him a purely inside player you nullify a lot of what makes him so good

Seen a few Essendon games and would agree with this; would also add that he'd be hard for us to tag (1. Because we don't really have anyone that does this job 2. The umpires will kill us if we go anywhere near him)

A bit late, but better than never :) was sick when the game happened and of course back to work for the 5 day break didn't leave much time between the two games... oh well, got there in the end.

Nice from McAuliffe to get the bouncing ball in traffic and a great bit of roving from Sims to get the goal
