Scandal Troy Pannell fraud

28-12 free kick count in favour of the dogs is just a normal day in the office

It certainly was back in 2016 when the Dogs got one of the biggest armchair rides of all time with Troy Pannell leading the way.

I don't expect anything to come from this though, the AFL swept Troy's 17-1 free kick count under the rug and will keep it there.

I’m happy for umpires to be reviewed after each game. Especially if some decisions are controversial or an explanation may be warranted.

I just don’t think throwing out conspiracy theories, especially in today’s age, is helpful.

The thing is there were plenty of theories around at the time. It was an unusual umpiring performance which was questioned and ticked off by the AFL.

Roo's comments about a premiership was a throw away line but what he was saying before that was the AFL need to do better.

Guy was a cheating campaigner in the WRFL before he was umpiring in the AFL.

How he made AFL ranks had me scratching my head and half of the WRFL league years ago. No surprise really to hear this news.

Pannel is bad news and a total cheating piece of shit. Corrupt as they come and the AFL had him officiating big games. 🤦‍♀️💩🤮

AFL will just use it as more dust to sweep under their secret rug as usual.

Can someone explain the argument from Roo here? He's saying that had Adelaide won that game they would have finished fourth where they would run into Sydney in the first week of finals. Since Sydney beat them anyway they most likely lose that week and head to a semi. Either way they are winding up in the same position.

Mark prosciutto has whatever the opposite of a beautiful mind is.

Roo channeling his inner cooker.

  • Dogs still would have finished 7th that season
  • Adelaide lost at home to West Coast is last H&A round of the season

Considering the controversy regarding umpires at present pretty poor to raise such an issue.

Roo’s extrapolation is separate to the potential issue. Roo is a moron, ignore everything he says.

The real story is that You’ve got an umpire with a gambling addiction that designed a system to start stealing from his employer in 2015. So when he umpired the infamous 17-1 game in 2016 he had gambling debts that necessitated his fraud. Ultimately $8m worth. Who do you reckon he owed the money to? Sportsbet? His situation makes him a prime candidate for paid intervention in a game of footy.

Although I agree with this sentence, and to base a conspiracy theory on a 17-1 count in isolation would have been silly...

In this case, some pretty compelling evidence has come to light which supports a theory that it wasn't just bad umpiring and bad luck to the Crows. Not exactly a smoking gun, but it makes it more plausible.

It’s a massive statistical outlier. The other 2 awarded 9-11 in Crows favour. It’s ok, it definitely could just be the rare occasion where this happens without deliberate intervention. But, if you were going to draw up a profile of the background habits of an umpire that could lead to them being involved in a form of match fixing for reward, it’d be hard to dream up much better.

The Crom sook about everything. They are so self entitled that they cannot handle when things don’t go their way.

And you wonder why the AFL don't bother addressing the incompetent/possibly corrupt umpiring when club supporters can't unite on this issue "Oh, they're just having a whinge" and then it happens to their team, and then the next team.

The AFL accredited media know not to rock the boat to seriously raise this an issue.

The AFL "Supporters aren't worried, media won't report on it, nothing to see here".

Wouldn’t mind an analysis of this game. From the perspective of both clubs.
Frees for (correctly paid & incorrectly paid)
Frees against (correctly paid & incorrectly paid)
Frees not paid (correctly not paid & incorrectly not paid).
impact on game (eg big moment, momentum stopper, after the siren goals etc.

It would be very interesting to see the performance of all umpires for this match.

When was the issue of gambling raised? I haven’t seen any reports yet.

If there was any investigation into the one side free count by that umpire there is no way it should be conducted by the AFL. It would have to be external and independent but who could do that?
Short of Parnell being found and admitting he fixed the free count or some other other party that came forward and said yes he did fix the count to pay a debt how do you actually prove it.
If he's fixed this game there's surely others not to mention Brownlow voting as well.

You would need to drill down on key momentum shift/changes too.

Everyone is mentioning this 17-1 free kick count, is there actual footage of the free kicks he gave? How many of them were legit decisions and how many were 50/50 or blatantly incorrect?
I really want to know what free he gave to Adelaide....must've been pretty clear cut for him to have paid it one would think.
