No changes is the right call, back in the great performance last week.

Our form this year against struggling teams getting smashed in the media all week isnt good , hopefully the boys can change that.

Played a team with two of the best small forwards in the comp in it and conceded 3 goals. I'm happy with that.
That’s cool but are you also happy with Kozzy kicking 5 and Elliot/Hill kicking 9?

That’s two close losses where having no one who could match their smalls made a difference. That’s 8 points gone because you had fat Luke Ryan and 190cm Chapman playing small.

This "walker is overrated " talk is so shallow in analysis.

We literally have no one else who can shut down a small forward.

Funny how multiple small forwards have torn us a new arseh*le since he's gone down injured.

1. Coop didn't play against the dees.
2. Nor coop or Walker would play on Elliot ever.
3. In both those games, I'm 99% certain Walker makes very little difference and probably coughs up a couple due to turnovers.

Walker should have been spending this whole re-hab, working on ball drop and kicking. Kicking is a skill that can be vastly improved. There needs to be a huge focus on it this off-season. Players like Pearce, Sharp, Switta, Voss, Raz, Johnno, NOD and Walker need to spend as much time as possible with the likes of Young, Clark, Reid and Treacy working on technique and what the right target looks like. Where the starting line is for their kicks. Weighting the ball. Kicking to advantage. Having this ability buys you more time as you can kick under a little bit more pressure. This is what's missing in this team. I'm sick of seeing players miss easy targets while the Geelong's, Collingwood's, Bulldogs of the league just nail difficult kicks every weekend. If you can't kick, you can't play league footy in my mind.

I really doubt Walker would have played on Elliott. He certainly would have played Kozzy tightly and helped us to potentially to a win against Melb. Gawn did destroy Darcy in the middle that day.

One thing I will agree with is that Walker is best 22 due to his ability play a lock down role on smalls. No point picking apart a couple of his turnovers coming out of defence. You could pick apart every defender. I did think Walker was a bit lethargic in the PS games and early rounds but he then slotted into his lockdown role nicely.

It’s decision making under pressure rather than ball drop. The mechanics of his kicking looks fine. People talk about these guys learning how to kick like U10’s. When you’re running at full speed out of d50 and have Bobby Hill, Kozzy, Papley, etc chasing or applying pressure the brain making the right decision is not easy. Sometimes he he needs to slow down and compose himself before kicking. Easier said than done. I agree that he wouldn’t be a match-up for Elliott.

This is just confirmation bias. Every player misses easy targets, it’s not exclusive to Freo.

Geelong & Bulldogs went at 71% disposal efficiency last night, same as Freo last week. Giants went at 74% and got pumped.

Tbh sometimes I wonder if it's nefarious because the bloke has a set of skills that blanket small forwards regularly & consistently - bordering on the word always, yet you've got clapped in the head dropkicks asking for him to be dropped every week.

Literally two weeks ago smalls kicked 9 on us. Go back a few weeks earlier and Kozzy kicks 5. That’s two games where Walker playing changes the result.

When’s the last time Walker had anything closed to that kicked on him?
Not arguing the point that Walker is a good lock down defender, it's just your use of hyperbole that irritates me. The "6-9 goals every game" is just nonsensical and doesn't add anything to the argument.

Anyway, will be happy to see Walker back as he gives us another defensive option.

No, its because his turnovers and clangers always stick out a lot because of how he does them. Poor decision making, run down from behind, missing a target. His defending is elite, his offensive game leaves a lot to be desired for someone his size and role.

I do genuinely think it hurts us a bit but have always thought the defending makes up for it

I was going to go with "idiotic hyperbole", but was probably feeling miffed from being called a smartarse.

People just remember the 2022 final against Collingwood when he was 19 years old and made a fair few howlers playing in front of 90k hostile fans.

It’s like that game has formed their opinion and it never changes despite how much he has improved over the years.

tbh, i'd almost prefer worner/chapman takes the third tall role that ryan has. allowing us to bring walker in.

FB: worner pearce walker
HB: simpson cox clark

bench: chapman

go all in on the smaller, faster backline.

Poor Darcy; he’s worked so hard and it’s just not working. Really hope the big fella can work it out and put it behind him, but…

Darcy looked shattered when he jarred his knee and was forced out of the game against Collingwood. He seems to have given it his all to get match fit but it's not working out for him unfortunately.

I hope for his sake he can get fit enough to play again....even if it's not at Freo.

Mechanics are not fine!
