Ed, at 194cm is too timid as an inside mid and too slow as an outside runner. So I am not sure where he fits in. Would love for him to become a Cripps like player but I don't think that's in his DNA.

What is his role?
Run all day and be a link up man in our handpassing chains and as his confidence grows, move into the midfield alongside Tommy McGuane, Nick and Ned.

He is 20. Build his body for another year and it will start to all come together. People always judge on the now when they should be looking long term. He will be a good player.

Ed is too slow and yet Ed isn't slow so I am not sure about your observation skills.

Mids in their 3rd seasons should be progressing. If he’s going to be a good player then most in that mould by their third season are becoming well established in the best 22. Look how good Freijah for the dogs has been in his first season. We kept waiting and waiting for Macrae to kick on and he never did. Mids kick on early, talls take time. I don’t think there’s any overblown expectations tbh.

He looked ok today. Hopefully continues tk build this season and cement a spot
Agree. He actually looked better at the end of last year . Not sure what's happened since . Im not giving up on him yet but it's a worry .

Too slow?
Maybe do a little bit of research before you post.
It's ok to criticize, but at least do it it with facts.

Apart from the 2 goals he assisted to Adelaide (handball to Rankine in the 1st & 50 metre penalty in the 4th) he was ok.

Was pretty good today. Watching the replay, that "mistake" handball was simply brilliant play from Rankine. Seemed a regulation handball to an open teammate until Rankine sprinted through.

The 50 he gave away was unintentional, grabbed the man after the mark and inadvertently knocked the ball out. No discipline issue or actual mistake there, just needs to be a bit more careful.

The 50 was particularly unlucky given there were some instances just as (if not more) outlawed that weren’t paid

the club obviously sees something.... or maybe he was played for match up reasons and the cupboard was bare in his role

he seems to struggle with his disposal under pressure
a fraction too slow with his decision making
but what really stood out to me the most was how much he avoids contact / sits back... not sure if its linked to point 2 or if he lacks hunger for the contest

he is very young... Ned Long is how old and only just developing an AFL career?

I didn't use that word deliberately, because I don't think it's a deficiency to not have the sort of insane bravery that some of them do. But he does seem to always be half hearted in his efforts at the ball. And I'm not really seeing his unique skill to make up for that.
Think it’s a confidence thing with Ed , seems to lack intent and purpose in contests , “ sorry FJ , give him a run at it for the next 2 games , waiting to see this leg speed .

Thought he was good. It was good to see him more involved. He has a lot of upside, so needs as much exposure as possible.

Would like him to lift his intensity around the footy.

He definitely was not good.

Kicking is poor, no urgency or strength in the contest.

He's a lovely size, needs to start attacking the football and clean up his disposal

avoids physical contact too often for my liking, takes a lot of half steps into the contest and it stands out. Me and my friends call him Bread Allen because he seems a little soft. Not sure you can train that out of him. Seems to be okay if we get him out in open space, he was better overall today at least.

Thought he was good

Great tackle

Rankine intercept was unlucky

Almost kicked a goal from 50m

Seemed more physical today

Just like Corey gault had a massive growth spurt

Put it this way shown more than macrae...Ryan...Dean...hdm

Will be a solid player ....but not a star imo
Ryan, Dean and HDM would have been close to our 3 best players

Yep, the wing is his spot. Good to see him get more involved and probably have his best game. Use his running power. He's actually a good kick and want to see him use it more. I reckon he'll start flying for his marks as his confidence grows. Does need to be stronger with his tackling, got 8 tonight, but they weren't good tackles
