can someone explain to me why sharp went from potential number 1 pick to potential top 20 pick?

There are questions over whether he previously dominated due to him being physically more developed. As the other kids physically catch up, he's not proving to be as dominant. Unless he has a great champs, he could slide slide into the 2nd round.

Surely there's no way he slides to the second round? I could see him sliding back to maybe pick 10, but he still seems like a gun player.

It’s that he is a pure inside midfielder. Question marks on skills and athleticism but it’s his ability to do anything outside the contest which is the issue. There just isn’t much space for guys that are only inside, certainly not more than one in a team. And these players can be found later in the draft - Durham, Worpel, Newcombe, Worpel.

Do you use an early pick on a solid player that can only do one thing and you can find similiar players later in the draft when you could pick a tall or classy mid instead?

Most of the Port board thought the same.
That’s all she wrote I guess.
I wanted Bo Allan as my first choice since he is 191cm and has the potential to play as that big bodied midfielder. Then Armstrong, Shanahan or one of the other key forwards. Berry was towards the end of my preference and I thought that getting Murphy Reid was going to be a turn off with his "speed". Clearly that was wrong because he just gets into good spots and has the footy smarts and goal sense which I can't say the same thing to Berry at the moment.

The list management team has had a mare over the last three years. 2022 draft class all gone, 2023 draft class on thin ice with Charleson and Anastasopoulos heading towards getting delisted and the jury still out on Lorenz and Walsh; rookie listed and 2024 draft class looking promising with the later draft selections in Moraes, Whitlock and Cochrane showing good signs but Berry not living up to expectations.

Fun fact, Geister is German for ghost. We need to have him disappear for a while then pick him up under the little known 1 game father-son rule.

Y’know we got Jason Horne Francis and Willie for two firsts basically right. That’s not a mare.

All of the 2023 draftees were near Pick 50, which is like a 20% chance to play 100 AFL games. I think you basically gotta get a first round player, to have a 50% chance of playing 100 games.

Would be good to snag someone decent though not in the first round - maybe Jase and Evans have some potential for later picks.

I feel like our future success hinges on whether Whitlock at Pick 33, can become the big key forward we need.

Yeah, I was a big Bo Allan fan.
I liked Murphy Reid a fair bit.
I like Armstrong, Shanahan and Trainor.
I also preferred Hannaford over Berry.

It takes a while for these things to shake out though.

ALLIES 2.4 5.6 9.8 11.10 (76)
SOUTH AUSTRALIA 4.3 8.3 10.8 12.11 (83)

GOALS
Allies:
Murray 4, Miller 3, Hamilton 3, Corrigan
South Australia: Schubert 4, Marsh 4, Barker 2, Peucker, Nairn

TALL forward pair Mitch Marsh and Aidan Schubert were dominant in attack to help steer South Australia to a seven-point win over the Allies in the opening game of the Marsh U18 Boys National Championships.
The entertaining clash was punctuated by a host of strong performances, including SA's pair of targets Schubert and Marsh booting four goals each.

Harley Barker and Luke Candy, 2 to keep an eye on. Barker is exciting to watch on the wing and Candy is a lovely kick.
