It should be zero. It looked pretty similar to the one last year with Tom Lynch and he got zero. Main difference being that Pearce plays for Freo, and Lynch plays for Richmond.
...
Expecting 2 weeks as the AFL continues to try to rub out football.

I have a major problem with the McGuire and McCarthy on The Round So Far running the pre narrative for rubbing Pearce out.

They’re basically setting the agenda so the MRO has no alternative but to rub him out.

The AFL’s mouthpiece should stfu until a decision is made.

He also stole from players when he was at sth Freo. I was at a Weags v Mel game in 91 at the MCG. John Worslfold went at him after the game over that.
Dang. So, all the talent to be the greatest ever, none of the brain power.

If he’d had his brother’s work ethic, imagine. Until he did his knee, G.
Jakovich was the best key defender in the league IMO. Oh jeez, and I just read he was playing for his high school at the same time as the WA state of origin side. Imagine lining up on Glen Jakovich as a high school kid 💀

Here's the moment of most impact that actually contacts above the shoulders. The trajectory is tangential, Peaarce's shoulder is passing DBJ's head - TBH I was surprised when I slo-mo'd it. Pearce barely makes contact with his head - it is a rotatory force on the whole body. Hopefully just a week.

A frame or 2 earlier, shows Pearce's left arm extended which means that Pearce didn't even brace in the traditional sense (ie Maynard style).

Pearce was just as exposed as the Port guy. What would the AFL actually prefer Pearce to do here? He just had more mass so went through him.

What if it was instead Pearce that got concussed, would Byrne-Jones be suspended?

Good point and further to that what if it was someone smaller than Moose with less impact and no concussion?

I wish the MRO would assess action over outcome but it’s easier for the their weak little minds to say “ ok concussion x action = 2,3,4……… weeks”
Crap system 👎

I mean, look at this campaigner:

Similar to Peter Wright he says…

Except Peter Wright left the ground two meters before he got to the ball, jumped two feet in the air, turned sideways and smashed the guy’s head with his shoulder.

Dopey campaigner can’t even stick to basic facts on the rush to try and get him rubbed out

"Fremantle look certain to be without Alex Pearce for the next three weeks. Also, Pat Voss is being retroactively suspended."

It's nothing like peter Wright at all. Flogs

I wouldn’t listen to that bloke if you paid me but he said it’s similar as in the circumstances, the specifics you said SHOULD mean Pearce gets less but he’s almost guaranteed to go I think , a HOPING for 2 situation like we were with Voss

He wasn't late. WTAF is going on? This narrative is crazy but it is clearly the prevailing view the AFL is pre conditioning everyone to before the MRO findings are announced.
Honestly, I could even see the AFL overruling the MRO and sending it to the tribunal if they don't cite him, such is the messaging this morning.

Yeah no way Pearce was late. They both arrived at the same time as the ball. Unlucky but fortune rarely comes in to the MRO’s frame of mind when they are so heavily outcome based instead of intent.

If it was a teammate that Pearce KOd the MRO wouldn’t be looking at it at all. The action, intent, outcome would all be the same, but just because its an opponent suddenly the goal posts RE: duty of care shift significantly.

Ditto if it was a bump/tackle/sheppard I.e. an action where you are competing with an opponent and the opponent is in the situation. He was contesting the ball and had eyes for the ball until he saw the Port player out of the corner of his eye. Then had to make a split second decision to turn and protect himaelf

We don’t want to see players injuring themselves for the sake of potentially not injuring an opponent.

Pearce keeps his arm straight and down, and didn't tuck the arm in to brace for contact.

I see the incident as very different from the wright incident. However, the AFL will suspend for 3 matches due to the outcome.

Having watched the replay, geez Port are a dire football team at the moment.

About a third of the players they trotted out last night are barely WAFL standard.
No first round pick this year and likely to lose both Butters and Bregman too.

Why would anyone want to join that mob?

I think we need a tougher test before we get too confident, Suns will be a harder match up that either GWS or Port I think.

Onwards and upwards.

We beat the Suns and I'll get back on the wagon. We need more of these performances to wash away the taste of that Saints game.

Yeah but the point is outcome really means nothing. It’s about potential half the time.

Outcome absolutely means something though?
Yes potential is important, and that’s good because you want it to not depend on an injury report. But that does play a role, and doesn’t help AP here.

Putting aside the narrative about whether Pearce is going to be suspended or not, anyone notice that his kicking has improved quite a bit in the past couple of weeks? I’m weirdly confident whenever he has a set shot on goal, and he also pulled off a pretty attacking but high risk kick into the middle (to Chapman, I think) in the third quarter…

Let's face it Pearce is gone for three weeks, he shouldn't but he will.

The media has already decided his fate.

The AFL is all about appearances and concussion is a hot topic and rightly so because so many players have had careers ended prematurely and affected in later life.

They won't take into account Alex only had eyes for the ball and only saw him when it was too late because it is now outcome based penalties unfortunately.
