Well it was the result most would have expected against the nepo babies, though for a long stretch we stuck with them and at least showed some competitive spirit. A bit frustrating to finish with more scoring shots - In the end it was our poor conversion and lack of class and experience that ultimately let us down.

Nas, Steele and Sinclair were our best, while Wilkie kept King statless until the game was over, and Sharman was once again our most dangerous forward. Owens was busy but misfired, he finished with 2 goals but could have easily had 4 or 5. Our midfield looked a bit more composed with some experience returning in Clark and Jones who didn't do much wrong.
Nice to see good games from the kids - Trav was impressive, as were Keeler and Caminiti around the ground. The Box did some impressive things in his limited gametime as the sub. Good to see Pou back and building nicely as well.

Marshall looked to hurt his knee early and seemed to lack his usual mobility, while Higgins and Wood were quiet, which was always going to make it challenging to kick a winning score. Hopefully Marshall and Hall pull up alright.

We play Melbourne next Sunday in Alice Springs so... who knows what to expect from that one!
Pretty good write up. We killed ourselves by kicking points ultimately despite really controlling that game for a good chunk of it.

I think we were struggling in the centre as the game wore on as Marshall was just ineffective, allowing Witts to just palm it to wherever he wanted to. On top of that I think just too much poor positioning from our players allowed them to really captitalize on it.

Keeler looked like a different player today and I thought was quite good. Once he learns to take the game on and not defer to the seniors as much I think he will really come good. If both he and Caminiti can keep that up in defense I think it fills a big gap in that line going forward.

Still doesnt help us going forward though as we still have that big King sized hole up there.

Travaglia had a game of extremes. Made some horrid mistakes but was really showing a lot in other passaged of play and had some absolutely game saving tackles.

Boxhall looked a natural coming on late, impacted pretty well for his limited time on field.

Dissapointing result, the season is another write off at this point. Lets just get some development into these kids and really get things settled some more.

Because we're a bottom 4 team....we don't have any easy games
On current form we look like the 3rd worst team in the comp. We are better than WC and Richmond, and that is it.

Skills and decision making are deplorable. Most players have stagnated or gotten worse under Ross the last 2 years.

People ask “how do you find class players”
Well what you don’t do is fck up top pick chances when they come
You also don’t recruit small KPF with diabetes when you get a No 1 DP
Yeah it’s not a new thing it’s called draft well
Anyhoo get ready for a good ole
Mid table finish again this time in a compromised draft for pick 27 …yay

They're largely kids so it's to be expected, but they stood up and it was largely polish and early doors where it was very suspect under that sort of pressure. In the end we never really dealt with it and just allowed the natural fatigue to set in and "oh hey we have more time to use it now, yay" so we got close enough at times.

They really need to clean up their disposal primarily, and decision making under pressure is a bit suspect, but it'll come with time hopefully as people get more comfortable with each other. Still think we need mids and KPF though, Sharmans a third who is playing FF and we're rotating a CHF between Owens, Hammer, Keeler at present and allowing Higgins to play 2-3 roles as if it'll play out every week. Hiding to nothing really.

I consider we're largely cactus as;
Ro is not a tap ruckman, so mids are half stepping cause they cannae read a tap to save themselves.
We've spent the past almost decade without a CHF, so they also have NFI how to kick I50 under pressure.
So we're always going to be "hard" to get a score, as then our forwards are used to getting long floaty bomb mostly instead of on the tit sort of lead to space or at point of contact that Sharman excels at.

Think we were actually the better team for much of the night, just lacked the polish to finish the play.

Positives are that it was our young blokes today that carried the load, apart from Steele and Sinclair all of Owens, Sharman, Nas, Hammer, Keeler and Trav were great while Pou looked to take another step forward.

Box also showed he deserves to start and looks a genuine midfield prospect with his work in the clinches

Maybe I'm conditioned to poor performances or I felt relaxed coming in with such low expectations, but I enjoyed watching that game.

Clearly they're a class above, but you can see what we're trying to do. Add a forward who can help compete inside 50 and runners who don't butcher the footy and it's a good side. Caminiti and Keeler as key defensive posts handled themselves so well. Steele looked back to form, Nas excellent, Clark is great to have back, Pou made us stop dump kicking, and if Mitchito could kick straight he would've finished with 25 and 5.

Bad draw incoming, but gives us a top 5 pick and we can turn this thing around quickly. I'm feeling more optimistic than helpless.

Any loser who criticises Trav after today should get their eyes checked. Out of his 20 touches he fluffed two disposals. Other than that he got us out of pressure multiple times.

Keels looked great

Camaniti best game for the club.

Pou makes a massive difference because he actually thinks through.

Skills atrocious
Goal kicking even worse.

Our midfield monstered. Their half backs ran amock.
He wasn’t our worst but for his sake and it’s very early days he needs to fix the disposanin big moments IF he wants to be considered A grade
His best by hands in close very good but if he doesn’t k fix the kicking he’s just another good accumulator who occasionally plays a blinder (see Jones or Byrnes) but let’s you down in key times
He’s got time and one thing I do like is the attitude ….lwts hipe we actually develop him

As much as his kicking isn’t of AFL standard, Mitch had

25 disposals (2nd most ever)
12 contested (equal 2nd most)
10 score involvements (game high)
8 inside 50’s (game high)
8 marks
3 clearances
2 contested marks
2 goals
455m gained
109 fantasy points (7th most)

We’ll just have to live with the kicking. He does an awful lot else well.

Also had 9 in Q3 when we were pushing including two HTB tackles.

Tried hard, just outclassed as usual. Too many busted plays.

Caminiti was a positive. Even Keeler was serviceable behind the ball. Trav showed signs but needs to relax with ball in hands, panic kicked a few times.

Tough going the rest of the year.

With respect. In the games he’s played for us. He’s made two bad kicks. Imo he got in two minds with both. Regardless. NAS made as many skill errors if not more. My point is people have the preconceived idea that he can’t kick. It’s just not true. It’s nowhere as bad some people make out. So yes it’s important to look at him with some perspective. Does he need to improve it sure.

This is the problem with stats
Moments in a game under pressure aren’t recorded
Mitch has a chance to put us inside 10pts when we were all over them
He couldn’t do it
Hill same
Clark same - fancy hand balling off from 40 direct in front….EVERY team in the Xoom by now knows the old “let’s handball to NAS trick”
Take accountability have the shot
None of that on a stats sheet

How was Marshall?

Honest question, didn’t watch the game.

After last week he was indispensable, stats seem underwhelming today.

Copped a knock to the knee early and looked hampered for most of the match, still competed but basically lost his strength which is his mobility.

I’m sure the club could find a decent half back that could be turned into a midfielder at that hypothetical pick 27.

Rather him have Collard numbers and kick 3 straight tbh.

Otherwise use his incredible strengths somewhere else on the ground.
