We have 2 picks . Whether or not we take them is another issue...So we’re officially taking two?
Another excellent well thought and articulated post Souup.Just a quick note here RE: why I think Werribee is and will continue to be a goldmine for AFL Clubs.
The players are forced to play within a system and they've each got a specific role within that system. You'll find that guys drafted the last couple of years from Werribee like Bice, Clohesy, Aidan Johnson and Henderson weren't stuffing the stat sheet week in week out - they're disciplined and willing to play their role within a system for the benefit of the team rather than to stand out individually.
The only potential exception to this rule is Shaun Mannagh, and even then, the big 20+ disposal 4+ goals per game weren't a week in week out thing, there were a number of weeks where his stats were just average, but he played a real selfless team-based role - sometimes he feasted, sometimes it was a famine, but he played his role well either way.
Even Saad El-Hawli started at Werribee but left because he couldn't crack into the team - he was able to go to the Northern Bullants for better opportunity and starred at VFL level but has since struggled to crack into the Essendon team due to (IMO) a perceived lack of team-first football. I wonder if he would have been better prepared for AFL-level football if he hung around at Werribee instead.
It's true that these guys have AFL-level traits, but more important than ever I think is an AFL-level mindset and character which they have.
It's basically what Geelong has been able to achieve at AFL level, but Werribee is doing it at VFL level.
Rather unfortunate is very polite lol. I'd love to know who the guy was standing up pushing for both trades. It is rather unfortunate.
I watched every second of that trade room on tv for those last few minutes and Thursfield looked like he was distraught with Brady trading pick 25.
If Daniel’s kicking was at its best he’s worth having in the side, but if it isn’t near perfect he just has to be replaced with someone who can run and/or defend.
I agree, he’ll play for two years but partially we have no one to replace him with at the minute. Rather do that with a punt in the MSD than anywhere else tbh.
Agree. If we take someone now that we may have theoretically looked at with pick 38/56 in the draft, you might as well get them now via the MSD. Then you could use those picks to draft someone else or trade for players if the ND is thin. We'd be mad not to take two here imo.
So many out of contract currently, end of season draft not looking like a good one (by all reports).
We're in a no lose situation by taking 2.
