Surely by now you realise its top midfield talent in the first round then meduim sized players with our 2nds and 3rds.This post once again made me mad that we didn't draft Dan Curtin or Nate Caddy.
We also needed an established ready to go key back but refused to draft blight.Agree with your first point. But in regards to Payne, we do have a need for a pressure small forward, which Payne was becoming from all reports. But for whatever reason, he hasn't looked like it.

you can run? You're now playing HB.. lolAnd then to be REALLY smart what we'll do is play those midfielders out of position, both within and outside the midfield unit. That'll really develop them nicely!
The North Melbourne Draft Paradox. It's a bit of a conundrum.
We've established we'd be stupid not to take 2 players. Yet we've also established that, given our history, they'll both be shit.
This post once again made me mad that we didn't draft Dan Curtin or Nate Caddy.
Caddy maybe, Curtin thinks he's a midfielder.
Like we couldn't use a versatile 197cm guy in our midfield who can rotate forward or back?
That doesn't put him ahead of Duursma IMO. You're peering over the fence at a more advanced system than ours, at the same time this forum is pretty quick to make concrete decisions sometimes.
I'm unashamedly biased when it comes to Curtin - I rated him highly in the lead up to the draft, and still do.
The old adage of 'big men take time' still applies and I think we're still only scratching the surface of 20 year old Curtin's potential. But the early signs are so good for Curtin.
Among the young 'rising stars' (which IIRC means first or second year players), Dan Curtin ranks;
The kid can flat out play. That puts him ahead of Duursma comfortably at this stage of their respective careers.
- 1st in contested marks
- 3rd in goal assists
- 5th in tackles
- 7th in intercepts
- 7th in contested possessions
- 9th in score involvements
- 9th in stoppage clearances
It would fill me with much happiness if I went to the footy, and called Donovan, Bernard.1. Tom McCarthy
2. Archer May
3. Michael Sellwood
4. Frank Szekely
5. Massimo Raso
In all honesty, I'd be happy with any one of those 5, along with a couple of others (Tom Evans, Zach Banch, Charlie McCartin, Donovon Toohey ect)
Prefacing this by again confirming I have little idea about the talent available, I think we should approach the midseason draft with a view to bringing in established, physically capable senior players that can contribute to the team right away. We definitely could use key position talent at either end, but history suggests you're more likely to find a role playing midfielder or flanker than a genuine tall in the MSD. We've drafted on potential many times and missed. Perhaps the safest option is the right option. You think our forward line of 27 year old one dimensional Larkey, Darling who turns 33 next month and Maley/Teakle combo is a great mix do you?
I can't tell you what likelihood May is on making it, but if he is a quality prospect then this is very much a position of need for us
no doubt he's a very good player.I'm unashamedly biased when it comes to Curtin - I rated him highly in the lead up to the draft, and still do.

TBF I saw Philactides play at Box Hill last week and he was pretty good.Don’t forget watto and caddy in that draft too
Would’ve had Watto, caddy, Logan Morris and Philactides if I were in charge in that draft
Same. I really wanted us to take Curtin. Shits me!This post once again made me mad that we didn't draft Dan Curtin or Nate Caddy.
Said to be going to *Lachlan Blakiston - East Fremantle (WAFL)
