It's less about "millionaires and their super" (although that too is just baseless envy and classic tall poppy syndrome), it's more to do with what such bad tax policy will do to our: farming industry (impacting the local food you eat); and our economy (impacting the wages you earn, assuming you're employed). That policy will hurt every single person in Australia

no question the tax system is flawed. however, the first order of priority should be fixing the pieces that favour the wealthy. starting with negative gearing.

You're looking at tax completely backwards - the tax system should favour everyone, we should have no tax. We should all be wealthy. You don't become a better nation by taking wealth from those who have it - that's how you fall into disrepair.

and you say you are a moderate. your cover is blown ol' fella.
It was great to see Tim propose to his beloved on the floor of the House of Reps because of the same sex marriage legislation that was not proposed nor passed under the stewardship of Julia Gillard or Penny Wong, but under Malcolm Turnbull.

He's also got small business and employment. He'll be busy.

he’s part of the issue the liberal party’s tony barry illustrated so well in a post i placed elsewhere. his time at the i.p.a and continued association with rwnj’s shows he hasn’t changed. it shows how barren the libs are for talent that a bloke hasn’t been part of your frolic for three years walks into a portfolio. my guess is there will be a few noses out of joint

wouldn’t it be superb if the recount changes matters? one can dream.

You are an idiot. If you have no tax you have no services no defence force and no education you get anarchy

How are services funded if there is no tax?

Oops Crankyhawk beat me to it.

How does the UAE survive? Which has zero or personal income tax. Or how about 90% of the rest of the world that has lower tax rates than Australia? How do they survive? Are they anarchic? No.

Corporate tax, royalties, consumption tax and sovereign wealth funds are all ways of generating government revenue for services, education and defence.

We could, and should, pay a lot less personal income and capital gains tax than we currently do. Yet our governments want to increase it further? They are addicted to the income tax teat.

But didn't you vote for Dutton's party of higher taxes?

Your sad demeanor on election night suggests that he was your preferred choice.....

So because he is gay that means he is not an economic Thatcherite?

Let’s make sure the big end of town pay their share first. I can give or take negative gearing but the big end pay nought

yep! but on the matter of negative gearing, it’s plutocrats who are the ones who use it through super arrangements who are by far the biggest users of this flaw in the system, and it’s adding to the cost of housing.

By that reckoning my wife doesn't even qualify as a moderate. She votes Green but wants criminals locked up and given little mercy.

Tim worked hard to achieve (not talk about but achieve) a great progressive reform in this country. And none of us are one thing.

But right now, most of all, I'm just existing among all the angriness.

wilson, a progressive, that’s one of your best to date.

btw: i somehow doubt the greens have a carte blanche policy on criminals.

UAE survives on massive amounts of oil
No idea re Switzerland except they probably have economies of scale. And probably do something with all the money that gets poured into their banking system

Your exact words were "zero" tax, so I will ignore debates around setting a lower rate of tax. And I thought setting higher corporate and lower income tax disincentivises people starting businesses.

We have nothing left to generate soverign wealth.

Government appears allergic to royalities in any significant fashion (probably bribed by the mining industry)

Switzerland has almost zero income tax? That’s incorrect.
They have federal and local income taxes. A 50,000 salary the real tax rate is about 29%…. You are looking at the federal tax rate.

1. She couldn't be less interested in posting on a forum
2. I don't watch Sky
3. The Liberals did Same Sex Marriage, Labor didn't, those are the facts, and they are undisputed.

I wouldn't be hanging your hat on the way marriage equality came about.
