Given his run and skill, I wonder if we'll try and play him off half back...

It's been shown more and more how important skill and run off half back is now, it's more important than contested possession these days, and we heavily under-invest in that respect. I wonder if this pick may be with an eye to use that skill and run off half back.

I'd be very keen to see Boyd in that role, but just a thought for Young as well. Not necessarily playing as a strong defensive half back but rather a free-wheeling rebounder.

By all reports we move the ball from d50 to f50 very well...

However our f50 entries are shizenhousen so this is where we need this guy to help out with what looks to be very good kicks...

I can see him playing in the middle, wing and HFF - not only a very good kick/mark but looks to be good in heavy traffic as well.

The way he kicks on the run so fluently reminds me a little of LOB...

Well needed aspect in our team.

How soon can we expect to see him in the seniors?
Highlight reels can be misleading.

However, kid looks a natural footballer. Everything looks instinctive, innate. Too many players these days look ā€œcontrivedā€ that is lacking fluency in the basics. Laboured, stilted ball drops and the like, players thinking about basics are too frequent.
Flynn Young has a very impressive ā€œreelā€ for mine. Very optomistic he will make it. Looks very ready to go. Just hope Voss and co. Embrace his offensive flair and don’t carve out another defensive drone.

Nice addition from our recruiters.

While that's fair, we still don't have the quality users off half back which is partially the issue going inside 50. We're good at going down the line and winning a contest but we don't change angles and get up to half forward through skill, which is what provides the dangerous entries.

As has been mention lots of times, very similar to Melbourne on that front. They've made a few position changes which have really changed how they play, in particular with how they go inside 50. They were good at getting to half forward, that was it. Now they are delivering.

Anyone think the way he guides the ball with his left hand seemed unusual.

Very much to the side with the ball, hand across the seam with ball perpendicular to the ground at release.

A lot of lefties have finger down the seam and **** the wrist to get the same outcome.

Anyway, works for him.

He has real power in his kicks.

Ball seems to punch through the air, traveling at a lower trajectory than a typical drop punt.

On the flip side, the ball spin seems a bit more scrambled than usual.

* Just basing this off squinting at highlights on my phone. I could be imagining all of this.

Perfect for kicking to advantage of forwards - as long as our forwards play in front of the oppo defender

I am perfect for playing centre in the NBA -- as long as I wake up tomorrow two feet taller, fitter and with some basketball skills...

From watching the highlights video, he seems like a small marking forward like Owies with good footskills - can pass the ball well.
So he is nothing like Owies then.......Owies was and is one of the worst field kicks in the comp.

This boy looks to have some class, can take a grab, tackles strongly and can really roost it........Looks a goodin. (I am tipping a big upgrade on Owies)

Bye bye Orazio and Evans at seasons end.
