Watched the game again this evening and I'm even more bullish on Allan now than I was before.

What really a stood out is the power in his running especially in that last quarter, it is a real asset and there aren't many players who can move like that while making it lol effortless across the competition.
I noticed him more on the replay too.

His transition work was stronger than I’ve seen before. Good signs.

I always found the criticisms of Ed along the lines of "what does he offer?" "what are his weapons?" completely bizarre and can only presume that such punters dont watch any VFL games. Anyone who has watched anything of Ed in the VFL would know he has pace to burn, its a weapon, not a weakness. Similarly for disposal; it's very good at VFL level, that it hasnt quite translated into his AFL games is cause he hasn't yet use to the increased pace of the AFL. Saturday was definitely a step in the right direction.

The 1 criticism of Ed that is valid IMO, is the varying intensity - sometimes it's fine. Other times its not good and he ball watches and doesn't tackle ...This is the area that needs improvement...but both pace and disposal are good
It's the variation in intensity that confuses me. Often I see him spectating and reacting too slowly to the game around him and not playing with intent. I don't know what it is.... whether it's a fear of being hurt (slight frame, especially legs), mindset or not naturally being inclined to tackle or intercept.... probably all the above.

He needs to get to work on building strength through his core and legs (build strength and power through his foundation) to be more confident against AFL bodies and imposing himself on contests. I can potentially see him an outside (quick) version of Ned Long if he can do that.

Image that, two 194cm midfield beasts either side of Nick Daicos!

It's probably none of those things

Don't hate me because the kids not up to the level. I am sure he's a lovely bloke, but at this stage he's only a passenger.

Been fine. You have to play kids through to learn. We have been fortunate we arent a bottom out club like Roos or Eagles.

Have patience. Each game playing with the likes of Steele and Pendles is bloody important

Had some rough moments but also a bunch of very good moments. Stripped the ball from a hawks player and forced an advantage that led to a chance, then a few times where he received under pressure in d50 and took time to find the right option which is v important for a wingers

I second this, was really clean on a couple of occasions near the goal line and contributed to clearing the ball effectively.
