Autopsy Round 12 - St Kilda defeats Melbourne

Keep both of these teams well away from finals for the next 5 years please.

Hopefully NWM finds a real club soon. Would be very good at Adelaide.
Man we really do trigger the shit out some very bitter supporters of bigger clubs.

How dare St Kilda have a gun player.

Fascinating way we used Clark today. Attended just one centre bounce and think he lined up forward all day, pushing up to the stoppages. Had 20 and a goal and could so easily have been two.

Hill had a sneaky good game, with

26 disposals
13 marks
6 score involvements
678m-gained
120 fantasy points (2nd-most).

Albeit with

0 contested possessions
0 tackles
0 inside 50’s! 🤣

Looked like our home game, all I could see were Saints supporters. Bigger ground would suit us too
I agree with Ross, I don’t like selling home games, but it would be nice if Melbourne could invite us back next year.

It’s a cool ground to look at on the TV, and it does seem like we have good support there.

Shame there wasn’t any spectators hanging out of the trees like there was a few years back

Hill was excellent today. Wound back the clock.
I don't care if he gets a contested possession, he needs to stop the turnovers, however the longer he went the better he got. The goal in the 3rd was clutch.
I suppose the NAZ and Hill turnovers look worse as they are the playmakers, but shit they open the field when they hit the mark.

Boxshall does some really nice things.

Clearly Ross has a plan but 49% game time frustrates me.

Love how hard he is at it.

Please don’t drop him after the bye.
He certainly does do some very promising things, but when you can only really play it the guts, you need to be contributing more, or it puts too much of a load on others in there.

He only played 49% of the game, but he still attended 11 centre bounces (just one less than Jones, who attended our 3rd-most, outside of Roma), yet didn’t have a single clearance, and had just 4 CP’s, so he’s the obvious one to come out for Macrae, if he’s available.

That will be a huge upgrade.

Is a decent sub option at this stage though.

A great win, some of the best wins are when you least expect it and it's even better when we have had to beat the umpires too.

A lot of positives.

Keeler having a breakout game along with our other youngsters showing improvement.

Windhager doing a number on Pickett as a tagger and having more of an impact than him.

Hunter Clark and Butler having a big impact after being out so long, they made a difference.

Sinclair and NWM scoring tons for my Supercoach team and they are pretty valuable for us too.

Wilkie showing why he's one of the best defenders in the AFL with another big game, should be AA.

The only negative is Phillipou getting injured again, hopefully it isn't anything too bad but it's a worry.

Keeler is a doooooggg!!! Not many people can move like that at almost 200cm. He should stay in for the rest of the year
He went from having cramps earlier this year to having his breakout performance

Mr H Clark is not appreciated nearly enough by Saints fans. All this crap talk about his lack of obvious muscle does not recognise his body shape or his skill. He's broad and strong, his timing and dual sided coordination is superb and he's fearless. That combination is very hard to play against, even though he isn't fast.

Some of us remember Ian Stewart win 3 Brownlow medals with a very similar body shape (ok, different era) and speed. He was a left footer whose ability to capture the ball in almost impossible situations and somehow get out (left sided advantage) was very hard to stop.

Years ago I had a number of conversations with a former Richmond premiership player in the Tommy Hafey era who played with Stewart after he went to them. He said that even at training when you were about the grab the ball Stewart's left had would appear by magic at the last second and then the ball was gone. He claimed his close contested ability to get the ball was untrainable and unstoppable.

That's how I view Hunter's style and ball control. He has been badly injured a few times, enough for most players to have retired. If he can get another half a dozen injury free games he'll improve even more and no-one will question how critical he is for our success.

The great thing to see is that our young guys are playing well. They need to step up and are showing they can.

Our ball use is very sloppy at times, but I think that's because we are trying to go fast in waves and just don't have the solk yet, so will get some costly turnovers.

But. This is how we need to play and once or if we get, we will have some awesome ball movement

And how about Keeler, played his best game as a backman last week and one upped himself with his best game playing forward this week
Confidence does wonders. Minus the one dropped mark his hands look fantastic. I possitive the more he plays the more skill you start to see. Between him and coops, two very skillful big guys

I like his sneaky high intercept taps.
