Locked in: The stars set to cash in on AFL's $35m marketing fund
Top players could earn up to $2m a season when adding their marketing money to their on-field earningswww.afl.com.au
As someone alluded to the other day, the marketing component that TDK will be paid makes his reported deal much more palatable.
Source? The salary cap just went up 25%.
This is supposed to make me feel better? There will be a dozen players across the league on the kind on money in the next couple of years.
1.7 is the new 1.3M that the likes of dusty, fyfe, oliver, petracca etc have been on prior to the cap going up.

What makes you think that's part of the $12.5mil over 7 years St Kilda has offered?![]()

He might need a couple of weeks of party timeThat Irish kid can’t be too far away from coming over. School term ends around now.
And zero pick cost. That’s a massssive win even if his contract is astronomical.TDK.
Looks like we will finally land a player (TDK) and people want to throw him back in the water (fishing analogy) and try and catch something better.
Ok this forward focused quote about being the best Saints ever gives me confidence![]()
'Part of something special': Star happy at Saints as decision on future looms
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera spoke to AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich about his future and his growth at the Saintswww.afl.com.au
NASIAH Wanganeen-Milera has let his exquisite right foot do the talking for him this year, but ahead of a return home for the bye, the in-demand South Australian says he wants to build something special at St Kilda and loves playing under Ross Lyon, although he isn’t ready to make a decision on his future.
We've got a good young crew. We are all self-driven and want to be the best Saints ever. That's what we are striving for.
Doing the same as others who do it better and have the players to play a certain game style is crazy. Different can be very effective especially when you have the quality and a very smart coach. I don’t see TDK or Marshall as permanent ruck forwards changing in a pocket. I see them as two mobile followers who can impact the contest all over the ground. Its been a while since its been tried , but Marshall wasn't a great Key Forward, and the point of what they were saying , is if you have a good or better key forward then you are better off using them, rather than a ruck who is OK ish as a forward.
Because it’s not worth it for just a single hand full of centre bounce attendances.
In amongst all the TDK calculations, we'd also lose Marshall's contract who'd surely be one of the highest paid players at the club, ~700k? Somewhat takes the dent out of the enormous contract.Personally i dont think the TDK $1.7m choice is the right one with where the list is at in the premiership window/cycle (god theres alot of cliches in there) but its also not an appalling bad choice like McCartin over Trac or Hanners.
Haven't the Carlton and Collingwood examples taught us that astronomical contracts aren't a "massssive win"?And zero pick cost. That’s a massssive win even if his contract is astronomical.
yeah, all we need is a flag and a few generational footballers and we can be exactly like the bulldogs....Haven't the Carlton and Collingwood examples taught us that astronomical contracts aren't a "massssive win"?
We should be aiming to emulate the Bulldogs. They got Treloar for market value with Collingwood still paying part of his salary.
Don't be the club that overpays.
Don't put us into a hole we'll have to dig out of.
Be like the Bulldogs, don't be like Collingwood.

Adding to that, sending Ro to a Geelong or Adelaide, what kind of pick comes back our way? A top 25 pick for an aging star that's out of our window? I don't mind the TDK move in that context.
Why?What makes you think that's part of the $12.5mil over 7 years St Kilda has offered?
I think you're mistaken. It's entirely separate.
Wasn't that a salary dump situation?Collingwood only got pick 27 for Grundy.
I doubt this is the issue. Maybe he will go home during the bye and make up his mind. Hope his step father can tell him again to stayPay NWM. Simples.
Source?Breathe easy everyone - NWM resigning to be announced on Tuesday week. 6 year contract.
In a fire sale because their cap was absolutely ****ed.Collingwood only got pick 27 for Grundy.
Has he been out?Just in, Ben King back round 18.
Huge News!!!!
Someone on Big Footy?Someone posted last week that $400k of the reported $1.7m per year is marketing spend outside the cap.
Then this article pops up.
As part of the first 54 star-studded group, each club has two AFL players and one AFLW picked. For example, at Carlton the players are Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow and Darcy Vescio.
An additional cohort of 26 players will be added across the season at the request of specific commercial partners of the League.
The math puts it at like 437k per player doesn’t it? (35m divided by 80 players).Someone on Big Footy?
That's your source?
It says
This reads as if St Kilda has picked 2 players already.
Are you suggesting they've nominated De Koning, with a backup selected if they don't get him?
I very much doubt that.
Secondly, the entire fund is $35million with 80 players getting a cut (some more than others). Hard to imagine it could make up a significant portion of De Konings salary.
Third, why would the media be referring to a contract that includes amounts that's specifically outside their cap? The commentary has been St Kilda offered 12.5 over 7. Not that St Kilda offered say 10 with the AFL fund making up the rest
Could be wrong but it doesn't seem likely.
We've done what we can - if Doc Wood, Windy, Collard, Keeler, Hilly, Henry, Ross, Browny and a truckload of cash can't convince him, he doesn't want to stay.Any chance we can sign Jase Burgoyne to keep Nas happy.
Losing Nas would just about end me
