Has had a 4-6 week hip injury for the last 4 weeks and he still sits 4-6 weeks away

Becoming less likely he plays again this year and probably puts his career close to done as he's out of contract
Poor bugger. It's amazing he even managed to get on the park this year at all. I saw them working on his hip for an extended period at the Captains run up here before the Brisbane pre-season match. And it's obvious that this wasn't a new niggle.

You’d think someone that missed a season due to groins and whose brother did the same, would be a bit more aware of what they were doing. Nobody to blame but himself, missed the Suns game and saw that we could still compete without him and instead of using that knowledge as an opportunity to get himself right, he put his hand back up to play when clearly injured. Just stupid.

We've been far better without him

I was always critical of his speed and disposal but I slowly came around to the fact that his ability to win the ball was valuable enough to keep him in the side.

Not anymore, I have to agree with the above. It's not as if he's in his early twenties and part of the teams future, so not a hard decision to make.

There should be a royal commission into who messed with the Crouch boys' hips and groins so badly.

Sounds like a straightforward genetic defect, case closed.

I thought we missed him in the Port and the Pies games as they were the sort of games he thrived in

I don't know, the stats don't add up to the myth on Crouch. He is more uncontested than contested and you don't want the ball in his hands going forward...besides, it is usually a handball.

I would go as far as to say Robs ruckwork has improved without him in the side, no longer is he trying to bring the ball down to his feet where Crouch is but looking for a player on the move. Crouch is a handy addition to have in the squad but I don't believe he should be pushing people out of the team, his lack of versatility counts against him.

I think he gets so much uncontested footy nowadays cause it's be opposition design. Don't worry about guarding him outside of the contest, he's not going to hurt you with it, so use the energy to cut off his short options by hand and cause the turnover that way.

Sort of like the way the opposition prefer the ball to be in Lairds hands coming out of defence, not hurt factor and some time to get to where he floats the ball to.

You'd think our coaches would wise up on it and not think "how does Laird pick up all those possessions?"

Yeah probably best for both parties to move on at the end of the year. Crouch is still good enough to get games at another club, but we need to prioritise others (Peatling/Berry/Draper need their share of minutes)

He couldn't get one of those last time his contract ran out so I very much doubt he could get one now.

He'd be a chance, we've got a first rounder and not much else, we'll only draft the minimum 3 players. Reckon rookie list is cleaned out and first group to go from main list will be Smith, Burgess, Bond & Tex. Then there's Murphy and Crouch, can't see both being delisted to be replaced with picks at the end of the draft. We'll be retaining depth.

Could also be trading in players.

I think Smith and Tex retire. Bond and Burgo to the rookie list. Who the hell knows what we do with Crouch but Murphy should be delisted..surely.

Reckon we've got a shoulder dislocation genetic defect or one hell of a coincidence. Every male from grandfather down not sired by first daughter's first husband has had multiple shoulder dislocations.

We don't have the assets. A first that'll be around 12-14 followed by 3 thirds. The snip on value if we were to trade future picks would mean we'd be overpaying and probably wouldn't get us anything that improves our top 10ish players anyway. We'd just be getting more players to squash into the 15-25 quality range. Free agency is an addition, but I don't see how we can meaningfully improve our best 23 without significant risk or overpaying. So far, with the draw and what's going on, we're travelling pretty similarly to Sando's spike. Next year's draw will be quite a bit different if we end up finishing 5th. Which is well on the cards.

Draper's a FA and we will get ROB compo if he leaves - if both of those rumours come to fruition.

Serious question, which club do you think would take him?

It is not having a go at Matt but which team would get him thinking he'd be starting in best 22? I think someone with his amount of injuries, who would be basically 31 at the start of next season who can only play the one role, I struggle to see who would give him a lifeline.

You sure about that?

I seem to recall someone saying if you gain a player through free agency and at the same time lose a player through free agency it cancels out the compo?

FA compo (which is bullshit in the first place) is weighted by total ins and outs via FA

It's why some FAs in the past have been traded for with shit picks to not affect the compo of another player leaving
(Cant remember who the players or team that did this but it definitely happened)

One of the lesser clubs would take a punt. Richmond or West Coast, I assume

Maybe Sydney? They need someone to replace cooked Adams
