Crows getting top 4 over us because of this win (and the extra f-ing home game from gather round) would be just the cherry on top.
Would you take the Crows in 4th and us in 5th or vice versa?

Weird feeling

Played well overall

Horrid lack of composure early in the last in defence. Payne for all his good work just has massive brainfades allowing his opponent goalside.

The misses i don’t think are the worst part. The bombing was.

Gallop should have played last week and got the pace of the game

Day and starce will make a huge difference.

Is Zorko getting worked out? Big week for him

Opposite to last week - played well but a loss. Could have been 10 points clear of 5th. Back in the ruck

Absolute must win for us this week. Giants have troubled us too. We will want to pack our running boots.

I think it's a bit rough giving Bailey a bake.

He's been good all year and tried his guts out tonight. He made some errors at the end but when you look up and see Cameron against 2 guys twice his size and no one else presenting you just kick and hope.

What's been lost is that we very tired. But not as tired as they were.

Our forward structure was pathetic.
Was it the forward structure or the way players were torching their teammates? Zorko keeps insisting on having the odd ping from just outside 50, falling short and ignoring other forward options. It happened again this week in the second quarter. Bailey can be a match winner, but he is very mercurial, and he needs to stop trying to run through players and heavy traffic when he has the ball. He got tackled twice in the first quarter trying to do too much.

I don’t want any scenario where we play them at Adelaide oval lol.

Now we’ve won one it’s about avoiding the matchups I don’t want to watch, like crows in Adelaide or Pies at the MCG.

I’m actually 50-50 on playing the pies in a grand final, really don’t want to spend $500 to have to sit near pies fans and watch them be happy if they win. Would almost (almost) rather lose earlier in the finals.

Everyone has mentioned our misses in the last.
But we somehow allowed the Crows to kick 3 goals 0 behinds in the first 6 minutes of the last quarter. Timeline 0.43, 2.52 & 6.03
That set them up for the win considering we had held them to just 5 goals for 3/4 of the game.
From that point on they kicked 2.0 to our 0.8

I've only read the first page but don't really understand the furore here... We made a comical amount of mistakes in front of goal in the last quarter but gave ourselves every chance and know this team well enough that it's unlikely to play out like that again.

We lost to a top four team by less than a goal, away from home, in horrid conditions, kicking incredibly waywardly when they applied record level pressure and kicked 5 straight in the last. Pretty sure the team will be fine, you learn more from losses and it's nice for the media to pump up other teams so Lions can go back to being the hunters.

Looking forward to finals!

9 times out of 10, one of those shots in the last quarter would have been a goal, and we win.

0.8 and 2 out on the fulls is shocking, but to get that many shots, we really made some opportunities at the end there. Insane we didn’t nail any, but not too worried tbh
While you're right that this was a weird underperformance, I am worried, for a few reasons. I'm not sure the squad are actually learning the lessons they need to. This isn't the first time we've had extremely poor kicking for goal, or blazing away hastily inside 50 instead of looking for the open man. And I hoped that last year's finals series with all the comebacks would have made our players mentally tougher than going to water inside 50 in the last quarter.

But yes, it's great that we kept giving ourselves opportunities. The midfield has some bad games and needs to kick inside 50 better, but they at least gave us the chances to win it.

The only team that's got a hold of us this year is the Pies. It's not a stretch at all to say we could've won every other game.

So whilst we don't look overly flash at times for a top team it's been a good year to date.

The draw's challenging so I'm fairly clueless as to how we end up by the end of the H/A season. But we're good enough to make Top 4.

It’s hard because we had 11 shots on goal in the last so it’s really just finishing. And we have seen we can do it under pressure in finals.
I'm actually laying the blame further up the ground... I know most are blaming the forwards but the rushed, no look, dump kicks from just about every mid, winger and half back made the entries almost useless.

On a number of occasions there was time to settle and look for options or switches but instead it was immediately dumped back in to a pack.

We just seemed to have regressed from smart precision footy. At the end of games anyway

That Levi kick to Ah Chee in the third

Dawson lifted in the last term. Dunkley couldn't keep up with him unfortunately when he had that 5 10 minute burst.

A Daniher sized hole was the difference in us losing those 4 points. Cannot be replaced. We move on but I feel we may end up noticing such a hole again in the finals

Daniher is a massive loss but we have also lost Day who, while not a replacement, at least allowed eric to be forward. And Smith.

We really need Eric back in his best role.

I think a lot here are a little spoiled or just have more fun 'doomsdaying'.

We let this one go. We didn't execute when it mattered. (We hopefully won't have as bad a goal kicking quarter as the 4th again this year.) We lost to the 'hot team' on their home grass in a game they spent a lot of time and energy building towards.

I am pretty sure we took it serious but it meant more to them than it did for us.

I agree we blew it in that first 4 mins of the last. I agree the 23 we ran out had a couple that need upgrading (Sorry Robbo but surely Marshall or Reville are the future).

We'll be OK.

I hope last quarter review isn't just about the missed opportunities, how a 3 goal lead was flushed down the dunny inside the first few minutes of the last term must also be examined.

Yep. Lost all shape. We are making a habit of letting it get out the back. Starce will help if he gets back

5-0 to start

4-3-1 since

suspect the bye will help. Cause we never rest anyone!

But i hope it hasn’t come to late. We had it in round 12 last year

It’s not so much blame as it is just explanation. We did more than enough in the context of the game to win it comfortably. Got the extreme end of goal kicking variance on our end and the crows finished on theirs.

We have some issues on all lines but it’s relative.

I get that goal kicking aside, we largely played well in most other aspects of the game, but watching that was dredging up all of our worst habits before last season from terrible misses to repeated long bombs into our forward 50. Can't help but think the pies would've won that game if they were given the same chances as us in that 4th quarter...

Had the same thought myself. Meant to get the bye early but didn’t, had the disruption to training due to the cyclone and moving around. Hot games early against a few opponents, short breaks and teams coming for us. We will be better off after the bye. Based on tonight’s effort - which was there save for a lapse at the start of the fourth - after a longer break, the freshen up is much needed.

Strange one.

I dunno, most of the game felt like we knew it was a fairly big occasion—away, quality, in-form opposition— and rose to the challenge well and largely looked to have their measure.

Start of the 4th had one of our usual lapses, but predictably (great feeling barracking for a team you can say that about, by the way),responded well.

Created plenty of opportunities, albeit a bit agriculturally at times, but didn't convert our chances when we needed to -simple as that. Not great, but not the end of the world.

Obviously a bit off our best at the moment, a few uncharacteristic panicky moments, but still a very good football side.

We'll want to find a bit more fluency over the next 2-3 games heading into the bye and the back end, but if they're hungry enough, still think we're as good a chance as any come September.

On to the next. Huzzah!
