Our midfield issues won't improve through personnel changes. The only player at risk (excluding Peatling and his suspension) is Berry who didn't rise to the level

Our issues were Dawson being awful for 3 quarters, Rankine being awful all game and Soligo being extremely out of form and poor until he tagged Neale out of the game in the last

I wouldn't be devastated if Dowling played but I don't think him playing makes much of a difference.

Our three best mids have to show up
Agree. The horrendous midfield will be even worse on paper next week without Peatling.

Dowling gets the gig for me, with Taylor to also come in and spend a bit of time through the midfield. Both Dowling and Taylor are capable of playing in other parts of the ground too, while Sid probably isn’t.

I’d actually send ANB in for a few extra stoppages if he’s actually fit to play next week, which he wasn’t tonight.

Rachele and Keays to also get a few more stoppages. Get some guys with confidence high in amongst it more.

We were far too one-dimensional through the midfield tonight, and when that one dimension involves Sam Berry fumbling everything, Soligo being woefully out of form, and Rankine displaying the intensity of an under 9s scratch match, you’re not going to have a great time.

I still have no idea how we won that game. Well, I do, Brisbane missed 10 shots in a row at the end and only needed to convert one of the 10 to beat us haha. I wonder when the last time a team won when nobody in their midfield even reached 20 touches was?

Peatling suspended. Pedlar would be pretty close to omission, you'd think. Smith should be out.

Yo-yo Draper back into the sub vest? Bring back someone who has been given a bit of a chance this year and underwhelmed (Taylor? Nank?), give Dowling a crack, try a debutant (Tassie a great place to do our usual bring in a debutant then send them back to the SANFL for 12 months?).
I think Smith has done enough to hold his spot at the moment honestly.

Brisbane convert one and they tie ;)

Yeah I'm still not overly impressed with him, doesn't do enough for a winger. Curtin already better.

Apparently he's a HBF so I'd have him there over milera for a try.

What on earth just happened.

After catching my breath, I would go…

Out:
Peatling (susp), Pedlar (he’s just not good and I don’t understand why anyone thinks he is)

In:
Dowling, Taylor

Sub:
Smith

Notes:
1) If it’s wet, TEX MUST NOT PLAY. For crying out loud, in the second half Tex was a complete and utter liability. He had 1 possession in that half and allowed his man to take half a dozen marks. Stop flogging the dead horse.

2) Berry only survives due to Peatling’s suspension. He was a liability tonight.

3) Hinge is on notice. Is the worst player in our back 7 at present and honestly, if we dropped him to bring Smith back in to the 22 I wouldn’t care.

4) Hawthorn do have a smaller than average forward line, so perhaps Butts being dropped to bring Smith back into the 22 also gets discussed.

5) If Neal-Bullen is injured, don’t pick him. He was atrocious tonight and didn’t look fit at all to me.

6) Would be great if someone mentioned to Izak that you actually have to try to be an AFL midfielder.
Agree on much of this Neal Bullen was total rubbish Hinge ok Izak needs a bit of an arse kick

If Peatling gets a game, the competition is rigged.... ok we know it is but anyways. ..

Crips's lawyer would get him off.

Would like to see Draper get a full game.

Draper in, Smith out.

Felt Smith played his role but he can come back later if we have injuries.

Looking at the Peatling incident again, it shouldn't really get a week - but it probably will. Neal tried to stand up in the tackle and peatling needed to put more force into it to get him down.

The fact Neal didn’t go off for a HIA should be insufficient intent.

If it’s bad enough for a suspension, it’s bad enough for a test.

Ergo, no test = no ban.

Downvote me all you want, but Smith 100% deserves his spot in the team right now.

If Hawks kick a lot of points too, Smith might rack them up. Obviously actually winning your possessions isn’t important to you. Hanging around the goal square while the goals are being peppered is apparently good footballing now. Talk about a super sub, what an impact, 1 possession and a bunch of nothing kicks to contests from oppo points and an OOF.

Fresh legs, playing in an area with lots of ball to be won, possessions won, ONE. The only thing he was first to was the goal square during nearly all of Lions final quarter scoring attempt chains.
There really was not a lot of contested ball that Smith could have made a contribution with. When the opposition is kicking a behind every minute and you are taking every kick-in and the ball is immediately getting turned over at the first contest, you aren't winning the ball.

The long and down the line thing is obviously a plan, as was having him execute it. He certainly didn't set the game alight or anything in the last quarter but he wasn't bad either. Just played a specific role which had him... doing basically nothing except taking kick-ins for the last 10 minutes. One nice play getting involved in a goal, a couple of decent defensive efforts. Hardly worthy of singling out for criticism.

I assume that Peatling is the only change for Hawthorn, which means Smith remains as sub. Not sure it's the best choice but can't see them making an unforced change on top of the likely Draper for Peatling swap. And if Smith isn't the sub we'll have issues with team balance.

So likely to be Draper for Peatling, plays a full game and Smith sub.

Murray plays SANFL and returns after the bye.

He was a total passenger. Came on with fresh legs and did absolutely nothing for us at all. There was plenty of opportunity, others were winning possession around him, he just couldn’t get near it due to opposition intensity.

Disagree.

He's started 2 games. Averaged 11 possessions in those games, and hasn't had any impact as a sub.

Only 18, not ready for AFL footy imo.
How much game time did he get in those two games? He is NOT being given the opportunity.

Good god, what game did you watch? Hinge had 8 tackles last night. Threw himself around will nilly. He was far from our worst last night.
