After a night to sleep on it I don't like thinking too much about the game because any way you look at it we really just coughed it up . Disappointed.

So I can only imagine how the players feel.

Sometimes a loss like that can consume you and detract from future performances so the best thing all round for everybody is to forget about it and focus on next week ,which is an equally important game.

We was robbed and we robbed ourselves as well. It's done. Play to a similar standard against the Giants and we win.

Just dropping by to say the real story of the night was your midfield completely dominated the stoppage and we got lucky in the last 1/4 your forwards misfired when going for goal. We are a level below brisbane at this stage until we work out how to stop the ashcroft's, mcluggages and neales from walking away from stoppage after stoppage with the ball, we won't be competing at the pointy end of finals. It was a tough night condition wise being there myself with rain and wind on and off throughout the game which may explain the kicking for goal

Very easy to break down moments critically. Very easy to place blame on players. Probably some merit to doing so.

We got beat by a good team, in very good form, in terrible conditions, infront of a vocal crowd, getting a lot of home ground free kicks.

We lost the game with bad kicking, clangers galore, and turnover after turnover.

Having said that, I do believe our form overall is improving. There is still much improvement left in us. Some personnel changes, some tactical alterations.

It's strange but I feel more comfortable with where we're at after that loss.

I thought Morris was massive last night. For a second year player to be our number 1 Key Forward and play like he did was outstanding. So glad he re-signed for two years. He is a gun.
Ty Gallop showed enough last night to have hope he could have a similar early impact. Morris, Gallop for the next 12 plus years is a mouth watering prospect. Need to find a mobile taller KPF to round out the trio... Oscar Allen maybe or Mitch Lewis or JUH or ZZ?

We had more than enough chances to win it and we won’t make the same mistakes next time with a lot of improvement still in us. We’ll be fine.
I wish I shared your optimism. Poor kicking at goal and bad delivery inside 50 isn't new for us, they're ongoing issues that we seem to be as bad as ever at. We can certainly hope they improve, but there's little evidence for it yet.

In the big games in September does not seem to be a problem, won 6 or our last 7 finals, GF under a kick:( loss it was not an issue either.

Very confident that if we get to finals in good physical shape our best footy is the best in the comp.

This is 2025, not 2024 or 2023. I'm happy for the premiership but I'm not going to take it for granted that we will lift in September if we're failing to protect leads and put games to bed all season long.

I may have misunderstood your original post, are you saying that the "ongoing issues" is just a 2025 thing or it has been ongoing for multiple seasons?

Frustrating loss. Overall a good performance but we are screaming out for a couple more of our forwards to hit form or just provide a more even output. Our scoring power this year has dropped which is the big worry for me.
I agree. The forwards are the issue right now. But I don't see anything structurally improving until we get Day back, and hopefully upgrade him next season. Hippy, Morris, Charlie, Ah Chee and Kai are basically undroppable. Bailey probably isn't getting dropped either even if he serves up more trash like last night. But I'd like to see Shagga come in at some point, because the boy at least knows how to kick straight.

Thought a big difference throughout was their contested marking across the ground. They took big marks at critical times. Payne and Andrews aside we didn’t look like taking a contested grab.
I thought so too. Perhaps this is where Doedee can improve us, he's a good intercept mark. Would've liked to have seen him debut against his old side.

If we win we're calling it the best win of the season, so to go down by 5 points (granted in an exceptionally frustrating manner) is a sign we're OK.
The commentators calling it a "famous win"... I'm still in the mindset of "how can it be, it's only over us". Turns out we're actually regarded as a great team these days. :O

His willingness to look inside for the pass last night was amazing for a player so young rarely makes a bad decision with his field kicking.
But all we hear is Nate Caddy.Same draft wtf

Only picked up a footy at 11 or 12 years old huge scope for improvement if we put Oscar Allen inside fifty or Harry McKay (wish) he will form an imposing 1-2 punch
Eric would benefit greatly form this and our sml forwards would feast at there feet.

To be fair we fluffled some games at the end of last years H/A too
Yes, but just because we caught lightning in a bottle in last year's finals series after an underwhelming end to the regular season, I'm not banking on that happening again.

It's been ongoing for multiple seasons, but it's particularly bad this season. We're scoring less this year than we did in past years.

I prefer Oscar over Fort under normal circumstances. I also prefer one ruck over two.
However, Oscars non-injury, injury is a worry. Fagan stating Oscar can play if needed.

Fort played arguably his best game ever against a very good ruck in O'Brien.
I actually had Fort as our best last night followed by Dunkley & Rayner.

Fort should not have to make way for Oscar next week after that game.
So, what will they do with Oscar.
More time off, play Oscar in the VFL (needs match practice) or selectors take the easy way out and play both rather than drop Fort
That would mean dropping Gallop and or not bringing back Gardiner.

I get that goal kicking aside, we largely played well in most other aspects of the game, but watching that was dredging up all of our worst habits before last season from terrible misses to repeated long bombs into our forward 50. Can't help but think the pies would've won that game if they were given the same chances as us in that 4th quarter...

Pies would have found a truly evil way to rob the crows.

It's been ongoing for multiple seasons, but it's particularly bad this season. We're scoring less this year than we did in past years.

See it really hasn’t been the story this year - we haven’t generated enough shots to fluff our lines and miss them. Last night our first big underperformance on expected score all year. Sneaky positive out of the game maybe?

Not overly disappointed in the loss. How often is a team that dominant and missing every single shot + has an umpire goal call go against you the way Ah Chee's did. It happens, but if we had a rematch next week you know it won't happen again.

The forward stuff happened.More concerned about 5 goals in 10 minutes at the start of the quarter and a lack of plan to stop the run on.
…but we stopped the run on. We absolutely controlled the game for the last 15 minutes. We kicked 2 behinds (and maybe Dev’s failed shot from the boundary?) between the 3 & 4th goals.
We just missed our shots.

Six pages into this thread, but as I understand it, Dev Robinson cost us the match and should never play again? Is that right?
Yes some of the commentary on Dev is a tad unfair, the role of the sub is a hard role, you are expected to come on cold usually in the last quarter and make an immediate impact, Dev is not that impact style of player. He did get himself into a position to kick 2 goals but he fluffed them... like a few others who were not cold did.

If he is given another chance he needs to be named in the 22, he is not a viable sub IMO.

I’m not taking it for granted we’ll be lifting the cup this year, even if we were playing like Collingwood right now.
We showed last season that anything is possible. Another team may click and catch fire like we did last year.

We can expect to win one final. Beyond that nothing is guaranteed.
