His willingness to look inside for the pass last night was amazing for a player so young rarely makes a bad decision with his field kicking.
But all we hear is Nate Caddy.Same draft wtf

Only picked up a footy at 11 or 12 years old huge scope for improvement if we put Oscar Allen inside fifty or Harry McKay (wish) he will form an imposing 1-2 punch
Eric would benefit greatly form this and our sml forwards would feast at there feet.
There were a few moments last night when Logan was in the right position to receive the pass for the easy shot at goal. For whatever reason they didn’t pass to him - i’m assuming they had directive to take a shot if you get it in the wet, rather than go for one more pass.
Regardless, he didn’t drop his head or have a sulk. He was very competitive all night.

See it really hasn’t been the story this year - we haven’t generated enough shots to fluff our lines and miss them. Last night our first big underperformance on expected score all year. Sneaky positive out of the game maybe?
That's true. My point was covering both kicking at goal and delivery inside 50 I guess.

I prefer Oscar over Fort under normal circumstances. I also prefer one ruck over two.
However, Oscars non-injury, injury is a worry. Fagan stating Oscar can play if needed.

Fort played arguably his best game ever against a very good ruck in O'Brien.
I actually had Fort as our best last night followed by Dunkley & Rayner.

Fort should not have to make way for Oscar next week after that game.
So, what will they do with Oscar.
More time off, play Oscar in the VFL (needs match practice) or selectors take the easy way out and play both rather than drop Fort
That would mean dropping Gallop and or not bringing back Gardiner.

I was in two minds on Fort last night and there were times when he got beaten by the bigger body. Other times his tap work was excellent.
I think a fit Oscar is still the better selection - but a 75% fit Oscar is not.
I hope Oscar is going through an extended fitness program in the background - but travels as emergency in case Fort does a calf in the warmup.

I disagree with a lot of the sentiment here.

It was an away game against a top-4 team. We were underdogs but we were the better team overall. The expected score says we should have won by 33. We created good chances and just missed shots. Nothing to stress about it.

In terms of individual performances, Dev looks below AFL standard and recorded a -0.4 player ratings for the game. Surely he's out of the side for now, and might have his paper stamped now.

Speaking of Player Ratings, it is interesting that Dunkley (19.8) and Neale (13.4) were out highest rates mids from 42 total disposals compared to Will Ashcroft (12.0) and McCluggage (9.7) from 58 disposals. I thought Dunkley was clearly our best, especially due to his defensive work. I would like to see Will be a bit more damaging with the ball and focus less on racking up disposals.

We are definitely contenders and plenty to look forward to with Oscar, Coleman and Starce to come back in.

I think I'm this page as well. They're one of the form sides of the competition, at home and are basically at full strength. We have players like Starcevich, McInerney, Coleman and Day missing from our potential best 22.

My bigger concern is whether we're going to kick out of first/occasional second gear this season or not. Feels like we're going through the motions a bit.

I'm also not entirely sure how we fit Kiddy and Zorko into the same team (hopefully Kiddy can work his way back). Adelaide exploited Zorko defensively and worked off him and I'm not sure you can carry both in the same defensive 7. I think one will eventually half to play half forward if we're going to fit both into the side.

Will and Levi will be guns, but they have to learn that dumping a hack kick 35 meters around the body blindly isn’t a great option. Need more composure.
Levi definitely looks like he needs a rest and I don't think wing is his position, with Starc, Kiddy available Levi is one of the players to miss out IMO with Jaspa to go back up to the wing.

I think its just a toxic trait that in engrained in the team unfortunately. looks great if we win, but too often whether its kicking inside 50 (most try the miracle ball forward from the wings) or shots at goal its all about them with zero team work. Why we often only ever get 3-4 goals up with massive runs in dominant plays. And why all our forwards no longer lead at the ball knowing mids will just dump long

I thought this watching live as well. Classic stat padding to get more kicks imo. Dunkley is starting to do this as well. At times its like having 3x tarantos in our team out there

135 ranking points and the highest on the ground. He is surprisingly good around the ground.

I think Fort's better than Oscar overall . If you take Oscar's good games then he's better but right at the moment I can see why we're playing Fort.
Fort is good against rucks that aren't beast.
He was spanked by Xerri and Gawn not his fault he just ain't a super physical player buy has ruck craft and is more mobile than O
Oscar is a brute and I love him but clearly something was hampering injury wise early season.

Fort is not as big or strong

He is quite good below his knees though and gives some very effective handballs

I think one advantage of Oscar is if our mids are having a flat batch he gets really physical and forces it forward - can help turn the tide

But overall there is not a lot between them. Just different types

My exact thoughts

Wasn’t Dunkley off getting his head stitched up when Dawson had his purple patch?
Dunks was definitely on early in the last when Dawson destroyed us for that 10-15 minutes. The head knock was a bit later on in the quarter. He was very good on him up to that point, but that period from Dawson was telling in the end result.

Everyone has mentioned our misses in the last.
But we somehow allowed the Crows to kick 3 goals 0 behinds in the first 6 minutes of the last quarter. Timeline 0.43, 2.52 & 6.03
That set them up for the win considering we had held them to just 5 goals for 3/4 of the game.
From that point on they kicked 2.0 to our 0.8
They had a fresh man in that time. We had our fresh man sitting on the bench. 🤔

Six pages into this thread, but as I understand it, Dev Robinson cost us the match and should never play again? Is that right?
I’m glad someone posted this. Thanks knaf.

The hysterical delivery, from some, of responsibility for the loss at the feet of Dev Robertson is ludicrous.

It’s unreasonable to put the loss on Dev. It’s not unreasonable to hold a view that, despite his great intent and energy, he is in an awkward spot on the list with awful skills by hand and foot. The list has unfortunately probably gone past him with the other talent we have in the reserves and coming in via the draft.

I’m not sure how we could justify giving Dev another game in the short term. Hopefully a switch flicks and he drastically improves in the reserves and comes good. But I’m not seeing it at the moment.

I feel for Dev - coming on in the final quarter in a tense period, not having played a full game in the seniors for a very long time. He’s no doubt going to be nervous and over eager to do the right thing - which typically results in doing the wrong thing.
Unlikely he’ll get another full game in the seniors, there’s too many other players ahead of him.
I really hope he gets another chance in a less stacked side next season and makes a career for himself. Prior and Sharp are both getting games at the clubs they’ve gone to. Not exactly setting the world on fire, but doing the job. No doubt Dev can do the same.

To be fair to Dev, he did the setup handball for Answerth to kick the sealer against Essendon. He was losing his feet but desperately got after the ball and to his intended recipient. It didn't come off this game but it happens.

Dev needs a bigger job than be running around as a small forward which is not even a spot he plays in 2s as far as I'm aware. Next time we could give Dunkley a break and see if Dev could tag Dawson as a change up.
