Bid on Whan with pick #1 to make the Dockers spend all their pick currency. Then pick Rodriguez and Duursma with our first two picks (pick 2 & 3)?
If he's not worth pick 1, then don't do that. It's quite possible they'll just go "OK then, you have him". And keep all their currency, while we've wasted pick 1.

It's happened before when Sydney declined to match the Bulldogs bid on Dunkley (OK, it wasn't pick 1, but they decided he wasn't worth what they'd have had to give up for him).

Sydney didn't match because Dunkley pulled a Bailey Smith and refused to leave Victoria.

Walking away from the game

WA midfield was very good especially in light of Vic country ruckman being dominate and giving Vic country first use
I honestly thought the opposite. Harding is a ****ing huge unit and should have killed Van Rooyen who isn't built like a ruck and didn't play most of the last quarter. Only got a couple of genuine taps to advantage all day long with the VC mids much better as soon as it hit the deck.
Loved Whan and Rodriguez and Farrow

Like they moved Kelly forward when he wasn't getting the footy

Pissed of Swadling didn't get more mid time he is our best clearance inside ball winner, but still impacted the game as a half forward despite not playing there before
He had the best clearance of the day though when was in the centre
Similarly I was looking for Will York to have an impact at some stage. Super classy with his 3 or 4 disposals (out of 7?) but was hidden in the fwd pocket all day.

For my crystal ball predictions as a first thought for the relevant parties:

Whan (Fremantle) 20-30
Walley (WCE) 30-50
Rodriguez 10-20
Curtin 40+
Bandfield (WCE) rookie

Side note: Duursma & Lindsey are top 10 locks.

I went to the WA vs Vic Country game down at MRP, people who say this draft sucks etc. don’t make sense to me, this draft is littered with kids who fit exactly what we need.

Duursma looked incredible at times, glides across the field, strong aerially, good ball use and played midfield nearly the entire day.

Rodriguez’s midfield craft was brilliant all day, you can tell how smart he is when watching him live, he reads the play a second quicker than anyone else.

Swadling played pretty much exclusively forward unfortunately but you could see his footy smarts because even know he isn’t a natural forward he still crumbed very well, on another day he could’ve had 3 goals.

Hibbins Hargraves was brilliant, particularly late, looks like a game changer, reminds me of Bailey Humphrey.

Banfield had a really slow start but worked his way into it and was absolutely immense late, he was everywhere, you could see the running power. Took critical marks in our back line, then on the wing then took the intercept mark in our forward line and assisted the game winning goal.

Whan unfortunately looks very good, probably the best NGA prospect for the WA clubs ever.

Curtin started poorly but ended up having a very good game, he’s a mountain of a kid, Vic Country had nothing for him in the air, I do worry about his lack of mobility at the next level though. As much as I like him, I probably wouldn’t be spending a true top end pick on him, if he’s there at the Hawks first it’s a different story though.

Farrow’s stocks rose, didn’t get a lot of it but used it really well when he did, I’ve liked his game at Colts level so far.

Lindsay is probably my personal favourite player in this draft, easily the most skilled and best ball user in this crop, he ran the show, particularly early on, everything was going through him, he’s a genuine offensive engine.

Hudson Walker was really solid for WA too, kicked the match winning goal of course but covered the ground well all day and tackled hard.

Overall it was a very fun game to watch and every key player we should be targeting put on a show.

Dyson Sharp with a very good first half, absolutely brilliant at stoppages, his hands are very good, has had multiple guys tackling him at stages and he still gets it out, hit the scoreboard as well and is getting clearances.

Grlj has looked dangerous but is unfortunately playing half back, was hoping to see him on ball.

Burton hasn’t had much of an impact as of yet.

CDT - please steer clear from him, talented but way too big of a gamble, doesn’t even dominate the ruck at this level or Coates League level, being outplayed by Schubert right now.

Cumming has been very dangerous, love his game.

totally agree with all of that

Pretty vanilla game from Dyson Sharp today…

Just the 123 fantasy points (most on ground), 32 disposals (most on ground), 10 score involvements (most on ground), 11 inside 50’s (most on ground), 6 clearances (most on ground), 19 kicks (most on ground), 5 marks, 4 tackles, oh and the 2 goals. Captaining his side to a 61 point win over Vic Metro.

That’s now Duursma, Lindsay, Rodriguez, Sharp and Hargraves all putting on a show this weekend with other guys shining as well, draft is starting to show some depth and the top talents are getting going as well.

This draft is tailor made for what our list needs, if we choose Oscar Allen over pick 2, I might cry my self to sleep, lol.

He is very quick and barely used it today. He's a weapon so I thought they may change it up and either give him a run on the wing or in the middle to see if he could be sparked.

His role was really disappointing today, hated the way Vic Metro was set up.

You can see he has AFL qualities, he tried to get a lot of handball chains going but each time a player would muck up, in saying that, he needs to use his kicking skills more, think he only had 2 kicks today which is unacceptable - he was pressured instantly when he had it though so I can somewhat understand it.

Disappointing. Very big on him hopefully he doesn’t stay there too long behind the footy. Very talented player with his size, hopefully get a good read on him in a couple of weeks v WA if he stays in that role or goes back inside

Just on Barnett.

Leading up to the draft, no club can do an Independent medical

What about interviews, one on ones, do we have unlimited play here? And multiplies of them.

I'm wondering how we did not pick up his deplorable lack of drive / heart

Think today's game against Norf proved definitively that we need an inside mid beast as the #1 item on our shopping list.

  • Killed them in tackles
  • Killed them in possessions
  • Killed them in scoring shots
  • Lost comfortably in the clearance

The fact that they were able to stay in the game as long as they did, and win no less, is at least in part because we still cant dominate clearances. We're reactive and playing off the back foot any time the ump takes the ball.

On a day of what ifs….

Some here would still think going to to draft would’ve been better then getting Chad with pick 1 if he elected to come home.

The Swans would’ve almost certainly went CDT at this stage.

Pick 1 and F2 for the Chad. Our F2 looks likely to be swallowed up for Kehn or McGlade

Swans- CDT
Eagles- Duursma
Tigers- Lindsay
Tigers- Grij or NHH?
Eagles- Sharp
(Richmond I don’t go Sharp due to being similar to Smillie.)

A midfield of Warner, Hewett, Harley, Sharp, Hough, Phillips* and Yeo next year wouldve/could’ve been very nice. With Will Duursma bulking up off the hbf for a couple of years

The great what if.
