I think we should get Butters & Daicos, actually not sure who is the better Daicos as I don't really follow the Pies. So get both as I'd hate us to get the wrong one. And Darcy from the Dogs.

We have some trade capital in Teakle ( replaced by Darcy).

So our 2nd rounder and a future fourth and Teakle for Darcy.

The Daicos boys - Richmonds second.

Butters - as we have traded out our picks, probably Pink, Phillips and Ford for Butters.

I love this thread, and not sure why our club cannot organise the above, like I could
That's just Nostra

Might as well throw in your boy Good Goad. He'll be redundant with X and Darcy.

Well that's bloody typical of you Micky. Bloody that's right, short sighted.

Who's going to bloody ruck in 2033 when Good Goad is ready to roll. The batton to be handed over late 2032.🤪

If we want a big body defensive mid to replace Parker letting him go forward more next year then Marcus Windhager is still out of contract and playing good footy and run with roles
I think we can avoid those who've had Hamstring surgery, I'd have thought.

I'd give up at 2027 R3 for him, but with some trepidation as we tend to run pretty bad in these kinds of positions. At full fitness he's quick and that's what we need but wary and he's a bit smallish for what we really need. If he were another 5-8CM, heartbeat.

I do worry someone about someone who can’t crack into the saints midfield, Lyon doesn’t stick me as the guy who cares about reputations.

Unless we have identified some players on other clubs lists who we are going to trade in, this isn’t the year to be cutting too deep. The draft depth just isn’t there.
State league players are better than what we would be delisting

If we have to bring our list numbers back, we'll be delisting 7 to bring in 3 I think. So we're going to be cutting relatively deep regardless.

we should be trading , or at least trying to trade, we need a couple of decent key defenders so we dont have to play pink, lmac or corr and a decent lead up tall, and we have a heap of dead wood and some ok players in the magoos vying for the same positions, namely fwd flanker types. shop around ford, scott, teakle, ccj, i dont think anyone will want any but at least shop em before delisting. gets messy when we give corr an extension and lmac is contracted but hey, cant see any point of teacup and ccj being on the list when you can bring maley in who wont do any worse in a break glass scenario.

Stating the obvious here but herein lies a very very big problem that is still festering at this club. Our talent ID for mature players is just not up to scratch. There is no club in the land that has an eye for potato’s like we do. Every one of these trade reeks of desperation. My point is, if the player doesn’t have a scope for development or already has proven weaknesses (with no obvious elite traits) then they shouldn’t even be on our radar.

Let’s have a look at the quality of players we’ve recruited and the draft picks we’ve given up for them vs Adelaide

North:

Daniel - Pick 25
Fisher & pick 17 - Pick 21 & 25
Tucker - Future 3rd
Logue - Future 2nd & Future 4th
Stephens & pick 19 - Pick 25
Corr - Free Agent
CCJ - Pick 19

Adelaide

Dawson - mid first round pick
Peatling - Future 2nd, F3 & F4
Alex Neal-Bullen - pick 28
Cumming - Free Agent
Keays - DFA

The difference is stark and embarrassing.

The shit PP’s Scotts handed us had to be on-traded and at that time our club had the worst win/loss record in the history of the game, so realistically the only people we could target were fringe players who wanted job security and a pay day.

The Crows players you’ve listed (throw in Rankine too) are either born in South Australia or NSW and the Crows rebuild was in front of ours which made enticing them to SA a helleva lot easier than considering a basket-case club in Melbourne..

Pretty straight forward I would think.

I get it with the SA based players, but they are still competiting with Port for every signature, not to mention Adelaide were a bottom of the barrel when they signed Dawson.

Even if you take the lure of going home out of the equation..

1. No club in the land were going to accept a shit pick for a high calibre footballer in a trade and,

2. No high calibre footballer would consider coming to the worst performing club in the history of the game..

It’s the cold, hard, truth of where the club was/is at.

I’m not defending Snoz’s recruiting resume (the CCJ deal was terrible), but as far as the NMFC’s attractiveness at that time to potential A grade footballers we were a 1985 Citeron CX 25 up against a fleet of 2025 Bugatti Veyron’s..

All fair points.

I would argue though, that we’d have been better served by simply not trading for those players (and offering them ridiculous overpriced contracts), particularly Stephens & Daniel. Stephens was uncontracted and could’ve been taken in the PSD. It’s like we are trying to get players in the door simply to get players in the door, with no rhyme or reason as to how they are going to contribute long term.

We need to draw a line in the sand when it comes to overpaying for other clubs rejects and we need to better identify fringe players who have some upside rather than those who are severely limited.

Might of been a better thing to compare us to the godees trades when they were down the bottom

All the good players go to the big Victorian clubs. Why would they pick a struggling club, one in particular which is small? It's 1 vs 9, whereas with crows it's 1 vs 1.

Completely unfair comparison imo.

Start to win and regularly play finals and it'll solve the problem.

You're wasting your energy and time thinking we can get good players without paying overs in our current state.

I think you should compare us to the Saints and remember the Saints have played and won finals in the last 5 years (therefore wayyy more competitive than us).

Stocker
Dow
Howard
Wood
Henry
Macrea
Tom Campbell
Cordy
Jack Caroll

Agree with you that it'd be nice to trade in best 22 and ideally best 10 players but can you blame the recruitment staff if those players don't nominate us??
