Thoughts on cases?

I like the look of the all in one cases. There's an official Nintendo one that is $109 because of course it is and a couple of others. There is one at EB Games that kinda looks like you can detach the top section that just holds the screen and jocons but not sure.

$109? What on earth? What is that one so I can avoid it?

I kept getting please connect to an AC trying to system transfer on the switch 1 and had to reboot for it to register. Stupid thing.

The first thing I noticed was the eshop loads in a second where the switch 1 takes forever and lags scrolling down. Hopefully that stays optimised.

I think that Wifi 6E chip on the Switch 2 will be very welcomed ( of course ethernet is still ideal.)

Wifi is so much better.

I think the Eshop lag was a RAM issue. Switch 2 has not only triple the RAM but faster RAM too so it shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

The negativity around this console is insane.

It's like it needs to be a hybrid PS5/Steam Deck OLED with a library of 1000 games at launch and cost $300 or it's Wii U 2.0.
Developers are now coming out saying its power is closer to Series S than PS4, which is what anyone that kept up with the leaks on other gaming forums from last year would’ve been able to conclude anyway.

Internet is a bubble, my feed makes it seem like the Steam Deck has a massive following, in reality it has sold less than the Dreamcast.

Switch 2 has sold 3.5m units in a week. The way people are talking about it they have sold maybe 6 or 7.

Wii U sold 3m units in 2012 with a November release, then just 3m give or take in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and 1m in 2016.

Switch sold just under 3m in the first month then 15m, 17m, 21m, 29m, 23m, 18m, 16m, 10m the years after that. It's a phenomenon to still be selling 10m units in 2024 after releasing in 2017 (OLED update in 2i21). Be interesting to see what kind of trajectory the Switch 2 takes. I think the main driver will be releases of Switch 2 only games. I would love love love to see Wii games added to Switch Online, if that is feasible. They aren't that much more advanced than Gamecube in terms of file size.

Its funny even my missus was echoing some of the negativity, and was like "I don't see the point in the Switch 2."

I was like "Honey, the point is the OG Switch is creaking and groaning under games that many smartphones can handle better, an iteration like this is sorely needed if you wanna see new games or your next Animal Crossing"

I can’t remember a time where I wanted a nintendo console for pure power. I have a nice PC and steam games. I want to complement that on the side.

Having said that I have enjoyed the bump to 1080p on handheld and 4k on docked. I reckon it’s around a 1070 GPU that has some current features backed in like HDR and some AI scailing.

There's no "point" for any video game console. I could go and play Wii or N64 and be happy. But it's a new Nintendo with a new Mario Kart so I am 12 again but with more than $8 to my name.

Would love to see the overall tech buying habits of the Switch 2 hate crew. I have a phone that was $400 in 2021 or 2022. Still works and I will get a new one when it doesn't. Spending $1000 every 6 months to get a "new" iPhone does not interest me at all but people do it.

Yeah true enough. I'm quite frugal generally too, my last two phones have been refurbished, generation or two old, Pixels off sites like Reebolo that I didn't pay any more than $300-$400 for. I prefer it as it's recycling and having a serviceable phone that I don't freak out about getting some scuffs on is nice too.

Funnily enough the Switch 2 though is the first brand new, day one console I've ever bought. It's an unusual splurge for someone like me but I don't feel bad about it; it's unlikely to change much in price as we've all noted and I'll have it nice and ready for when titles like Metroid Prime 4 finally lands, which is something I'm quite pumped for.

Me too other than the SNES mini which I bought from Big W when it came out. Less hype than a new console launch but also limited stock.

I don't really get anything out of phones, tablets, PCs etc. They are just functional items and I can't fathom people spend $2k+ on a phone that is a 1% improvement on the last one they had. A video game console every 5 years or so is fine.

My local JB Hi-Fi doesn't have the bundle back in stock for a couple of weeks so tells me it's pretty popular. I can get $120 for my trade in of my Switch 1, and have a $150 voucher so effectively can get it for about $500 which isn't too bad.

JB and EB will apparently have stock in by some time next week (well when I last looked at JB's site they were taking pre-orders that should arrive next week 16th-18th an estimate).
Big W supposedly between 20th-20th
I know of another retailer that hopefully will get stock within weeks..... but they might not actually secure it until August (thats puzzling to me but anyway).

Unsure about other places (Officeworks sold it last week, but don't know if they are going to stock it long term). Just checked their website - estimated to be back in stock by June 30.

Yet I know a few computer retail stores got it in last week, sold out over the long weekend, and magically had more stock appear as of today.

I'm taking an interest in it even though I don't envision getting the system until Christmas (although the lure of the elimination mode in Mario Kart World might prove to be too tempting lol). Right now the closest area that still has stock of the MKW bundle is Chadstone.

That's something else that spins me out, some stores being sold out of the stand alone sku.... while the MKW bundle is still in stock. I would have thought that the stand alone unit would be still available and the MKW bundle would have been sold out everywhere.

The listings on ebay, who would pay $1000 just for FOMO ? :p

Crazy how many gamers hold the steam deck as the greatest thing ever when in fact the Switch 2 will look and run games better

Cyberpunk 2077 is a great example how much better it runs on Switch 2 then the Steam Deck.

American gamers crying about games being more expensive

It's farking $10 increase get over it they make it sound like they are being charged $40 extra

Every gamer should be angry with price increases, charging more money despite making massive profits while releasing games that are bugged and broken on release.

You're the one with the strange opinion siding with the companies rorting consumers.

Eh, games have been somewhat inflation resistant for a long time. Price increases suck, but I don't think anger is justified.
