So far Murray,Schubert,Curtin,Dean,Marsh have had some very nice days.
Others are more highly rated going into it but just from what I have seen in the championships so far.
I was referring to Key Position Defenders, Dean is really the only one named there, Curtin whilst I realise he's played both KPF and KPD it seems more likely he will be developed as a Forward?

Don't think the KPF's at the Nationals thus far have had much in the way of tough opposition.

Sorry, I misread this. It seems as though the best defenders are overlooked in the draft lately, Dennis was just about the only player from the All Aus team not drafted and named at CHB in last years side.

The last 3 all aus sides all WA chb Dennis (not picked up) Curtin (played on ball and half back flank) Busslinger (a little undersized for a CHB at AFL level.)

Worrell was FB also undersized for AFL KPP is more a 3rd tall at Adelaide, a very good player though!

O'Sullivan and Trainor the only 2 genuine AFL KPB from the last few AA teams.

Trainor will be a 3rd tall at absolute most. Probably more likely a medium/rebounding defender or wing.

They need to pay fair price. That’s what’s wrong with the system. Gold Coast have another three first rounders this year because they can keep moving the pick into next year and match the bids with junk.
You'll find they traded out Jack Lukosius and last year's first to get those picks. After matching, what would they have to move into next year?

Still have the ability to match with crap picks.
Sure they can, if they hold the first 8 or 9 picks of the third round.
That’s why ports puck is already on the table. You will put yours on the table as well
Sure we will try, but it's going to be hard to find a buyer. Right now there isn't a team with the picks/points to trade for our first round pick.

Your ok with the double dipping?
I'm ok with doing anything that's within the rules.

Vic (and WA) clubs had no problem ripping all the young talent out of my club a decade plus ago. Where were you then? Certainly didn't see St Kilda fans complaining on our behalf. **** I remember your club tweeting that they'll come for Ben King 10 minutes after Gold Coast drafted him, along with Port and Adelaide doing the same for Lukosius and Rankine. That just weeks after Melbourne and Richmond raided Gold Coast for their two captains. But that was done under the AFL rules, and all your club was interested in was, "when's our turn".

So can you blame us Northern Clubs for telling all you southern clubs to **** off and leave our academies alone.

So yes, I'm ok with double dipping, because it's within the rules.

Spare me. You lost some players, happens to every club. We had the best ever player ripped out of our club by a northern club. You don’t need extra assistance compare to everyone else because you “might loose” some players.

I was scratching my head wondering what the hell you were talking about.

You’re not talking about Lockett are you? Bloody hell that was 30 years ago. Get over yourself.

I have zero sympathy for Briztoon and lions losing the go home 5. Brisbane had a terrible culture, a shit coach, played in a shit stadium with shit facilities. They got what they deserved.

Credit to Brisbane for turning their club around and becoming a destination club. They rebuild their club from the ground up, new coach, new culture, new players and a new facility. Funnily enough did it without their academy producing high end talent (Andrews bid was in the 60’s and Hipwood was matched with their 2nd pick).

St Kilda would do well to do the same.

In terms of academies, QLD has suddenly become a bit of a powerhouse for developing high end talent, which is a great thing. It should come as no surprise given they produce a disproportionate amount of athletes for all sports.

Reducing the points value is the first step, I’d remove the discount all together.

Let’s remember we’re complaining about an academy for a club that hasn’t even played finals yet in its existence.

There is a tipping point, the competition can not afford to give QLd clubs 5 top 10 talents every year for the next decade while they’re also competing for top four and flags.

There’s currently not enough depth in the draft to sustain the current arrangement in perpetuity when the first pick of the 2nd round is pick 30, and anything beyond pick 40 is highly speculative.

As much as some Vic clubs would like to kill off the academies, I can't see anything more than tinkering around the edges in terms of the point formula forcing northern clubs to give up more to match, putting greater limits on the number of bids that can be matched in first round.

Death, taxes, people arguing the validity of Academy for some reason

There is a dedicated thread on the main board for this stuff, please take your influential and passionate opinions there 😊

Ad nauseum.

Pretty much my point.

You mean Gold Coast. We (Lions) haven't even reached Sydney Swans levels yet.

Gold Coast are at the end of a 3 year purple patch. Neither QLD team projects to have a high end academy kid in the next couple of years.
