I actually enjoyed last nights game. Our skills weren't up to par (when are they) overall but we competed hard. Stemmed the bleeding and worked back into the match after halftime. There appears to be a maturity within the side that hasn't been there for a long time. I'm not happy that we lost, I won't call it an honourable loss, its another game in a list of them this year that we should have bloody won!

So why did we lose? Skill. We move the ball with no great fluency. Conversely we struggle to defend on transition. The Dockers scored 3.5 to 1 goal from defensive 50 chains. The reason why we move the ball slowly for large parts of the game is because it allows us to set up behind the ball to defend when we invariably turn the ball over. I don’t blame Clarkson for having us play this way. Difference this week was we were able to generate repeat Inside 50’s and we tackled well Inside 50. We can win the ball but sadly we still struggle on the outside. :stern look

Just watching the highlights....in the first quarter Sheezel takes a tackle and instantly fires out a handball to a teammate. Only to be called HTB. What the ****. He disposed of it immediately with a legal disposal.
Sheezel was beside himself with the call and Luke Parker gesticulated at umpire. Went straight down other end for Bolton goal.
Larkey decision was horrific. This was no better and made no sense at all

Brad Johnson mentions it once on the telecast but got crickets in response.

Been a long time since I’ve seen so many htb decisions in a game of footy, mostly against us of course, some were absolute bullshit, and then there was the missed one, the Larkey one on the goal square which was an absolute howler. We dominated in that first quarter and a half and if we had someone who could take a contested mark or take a clean possession in the forward line or just take the game on and kick the bloody thing, well things could have been different - we didn’t take our chances, that’s on us. We didn’t give up though which was pleasing, kept fighting til the end but the worst moment for me was LDU fumbling away on the wing, that was the moment - don’t ever assume, and don’t ever just stop.

I think you'd have to check your stats on the htb stuff, if there's even a way to so that. Definitely felt like we got more of them

I think it’s masochism to say we we were better for all but five minutes and threw a win away - Freo missed more easy shots than we did and you could say their inexplicable inability to turn marks and set shots in great spots kept it closer than it should have been. We had more inside 50s and great tackling and pressure to keep it there, but fewer quality entries and it was mostly congested and under pressure from Freo, plus they killed us in the air with their contested marking in every part of the ground. The umpiring errors are another thing - really helped them and cost us, over and over.

The game generally ebbed and flowed, but it was another game where one short burst from the opposition costs us the game.

We can’t afford such lapses when we’re umpired the way we are.

I legitimately have no idea how Xerri is not more protected by the umpires. Gets smashed around the head weekly and gets nothing for it.

The Larkey decision was poor, but in context - them absolutely crucifying a number of players for HTB it was a shocker. 99% of umpires in the league would have been wetting themselves in excitement over paying that call.

All in all, a much better effort by the team. At least we seem to be re-establishing ourselves at long last. It’s far too late, unfortunately, for some on here, who have completely lost the run of themselves. However, hopefully, they’ll get an opportunity to get some much needed mental relaxation in the future.

Umpires are meant to help you win? They made one howler maybe 2. But I think we were on the end of a couple decisions that were iffy that benefited us.

Stop using this as an excuse. They’re poor but thats for every team really. They’re incompetent fools with no feel for the game and are lead by a bunch of muppets.

We lost that game, in simple logic. We are shit.

Whilst youre at it, get the video of Larkey kicking it out on the full or turning the ball over on centre wing that missed the target by 20 metres. Or Sheezel giving away that dopey 50 and sheezel winning a free kick that was dubious where he kicked his first goal for the year..
