Coach Which previous coaches do you think are worth another shot?

I'm not sure the appetite is going to be great for this given we have Voss, Lyon and B Scott all currently given a 2nd chance and doing mediocre jobs .

Are there any senior coaches that failed their first time doing well at a 2nd club ?
Walls and Blight did 2nd time around after no flags at 1st club, although Blight made 3 losing GFs at Geelong- hardly a fail. No current coaches though.

My list:
Simpson, Longmire, Chocco, pyke, Ratten, Buckley.
In two minds with Hird, everyone should get a second chance but that might be a bridge too far.
I don’t understand the Simpson love. If he was a CEO, he basically turned a massively successful business into a bankrupt mess. The team was ridden so far into the ground, it’s going to take 10 years to turn it around looking at the North blueprint. Worst team in the History of WA football and top 3 in the AFL era with a chance at Top spot.

Sounds like someone to avoid, not employ.

Horse, Simmo, Buckley

Others, who knows, but Dew, Cameron, Ratten - were all considered reasonably highly - just perhaps not with the backing of the clubs, or had been their a long time in Leon Cameron's case.

Bucks has lost weight recently, got a new haircut, the specs look new. I'd say he's interviewing now.

Good coach, smart and hard working and developed people skills down the stretch.

Ratten and Rutten ridiculously hard done by. In a just world they get another shot.

Horse was at one AFL project, the bone heads at the league would probably pick him for Tassie because they only know one or two coaches. However there's a few new faces in tge admin (actually old ugly footy faces, but nit ex Amateurs lawyers) so they might actually pick a decent coach.

Buckley could easily have a new mistress, stop being so quick to judge about him job hunting.

Blight was actually at his third club, after a failed attempt to be playing coach at North in 1981. Absolutely agree that his time at Geelong was far from a failure though.

Also, in terms of optimising results with the talent and resources available, Walls getting Fitzroy to finals three times in five years (and being a genuine flag contender in 1983) was a great achievement. He was also head hunted to coach Carlton rather than being sacked by the 'Roys.

Blight did well at Geelong, but the issue he had with taking the final step was a defensive deficiency - both in personnel and gameplan. If that side could've defended like the 2007-2011 era Cats they'd have won a couple of flags. You could argue a bit similar with lack of amazing general/small forwards - no one to take advantage when Ablet was double/triple teamed or the ball came to ground.

But he probably extracted close to the maximum from the list he had in the grand final seasons. "Weaker" years like 1990 and 1993 were missed opportunities.

I think he was a good coach and harshly done by at Collingwood.
Let's also not pretend that Pies didn't tank in 2021 to get Nick, so can't use that season as a guide for anything.
Had them top 4 three times and top 6 four times in 9 seasons (ignoring 2021 obviously). Played finals 5 times and built the team back to finals side after 4 years in a row of missing finals. One of the few coaches I could happily listen to in post game interviews. Was always open and honest and seemed to have a very good understanding of the game.
All true, but doubt he would ever want to coach Carlton. He has however expressed interest in coaching the Tasmanian team (when it eventuates).

I think Longmire would be a good fit for Carlton.

The amount of moaning he did during covid set the tone for their fall off the cliff
