MartinJ might be coming IN... and McCarthy the week after
Bont and Butters look very appealing... 636k def Mills (ave 86) is giving me something to think about
will be missing a bunch of players due to the byes next week... so i'm in for a tough round
rookies need to step up like Zac Johnson !! Dunkley needs to lift !!

Up to 32nd. 330k banked. Trades were

Lindsay -> Johnson
Walsh -> Butters
Pickett -> Jackson

Time will tell if Butters over Serong was the right move. Cost 50 points on the weekend.

Made the late impulse call to trade out Pickett to Jackson. Figured he'd fallen off the earth with the extra attention, and it felt like post CBA he was returning to the forward line more than following the ball. And figured with his bye this week and high BE, now was the time. +78k cash turnaround on that trade in one week, but lost 5 points. And Pickett did look good.

Was either Jackson, keep Pickett or go to Daniel. In hindsight, maybe eating the cash might have been the better option as I'm not sure Jackson is top 6 given Darcy had more ruck time on the weekend.

Thinking about trades this week - only 9 now thanks to Walsh & burning a luxury on Pickett.

Flynn HAS to go, and have enough cash to get him to anyone (NWM)

My rookies are good - FOS, Carroll, Travaglia, Erasmus, Clarke, Johnson all have some cash gen left, so I'll have enough cash through them to fund whatever moves I want for the rest of the season, but probably not enough trades to make them.

Question for me is whether I target value (Mills at 637k and on the bubble) or pay 400k more for guaranteed best 22 guys. Currently have Bergman + 1 rookie on field. I'm thinking I go

1. Flynn to Mills this week and lock him in as 23rd premium, which will leave me 433k banked.
2. Then next week downgrade FOS to McCarthy, which should hopefully give me
3. 760k to take Carroll/Travaglia/Clarke/Erasmus to anyone I want

Leaves me 23 premiums (some a bit iffy), probably 100-200k banked, six trades, and still five good rooks on the bench for cover and cash gen to fund any injury trades/blokes I need to get.

Only other thoughts are whether Sam Darcy at his price (with Richmond this week, despite the 8 still being in his pricing, if he goes 130 it's worth it?) is worth getting this week, or whether Jack Martin is going to play out the season - as I reckon it'd be good to have a F7 who's actually able to cover.

Was originally just going Lindsay to Johnson and banking cash. I’d have gone Walsh to NWM had I known before today, but now it’s a choice of Butters, Serong, Jackson, Docherty and Daniel

Butters at that price seems intuitively the right pick but I can’t help but feel he’ll get more attention with Rozee out of the mids and him proving he’s taggable. Langdon/Sparrow, Jordon, and Cincotta to come. I can see Cincotta tagging now with Walsh out opening up a rotation.

Other option is to bank more cash and go for a value option - Cooper Lord stands to gain from Walsh out and McKercher looks good too.

Thinking maybe just back Butters in, and then maybe burn a third trade on Pickett to Jackson, Daniel or Lord. Potentially even a fourth on Flynn out - with Williams back in holding him ialthough he would still ne even though he would still be a worthy sn’t as lucrative just for an extra week.

That is so annoying losing a player as soon as you bring them in.
Even so, a score of 2116 was a great result. My disastrous 2004 pushed me outside of the top 100.
Unfortunately. I missed the boat on Z Johnson and even though he would still be worthy to trade in, I'm going with J Martin instead as I bring in will be my f7 for the remainder of the year hence future generation of cash is not the reason for his inclusion. I think Martin, even with his injury history is a safer option, long term, than Johnson.
I brought Butters in last week and am pleased to have done so. Butters, unfortunately, does have a history of scoring far better in games that Port win against those that they lose and it seems that they will probably lose more of their remaining 10 games than win.
I have generated some cash this week by replacing J Clark with Mills and Lohmann with Martin. Next week McCarthy will replace Moreas and Horne Francis will replace Davidson. This will give me plenty of cash to use with my remaining 5 trades. These trades will only be used for long term injuries as my team is relatively complete then.
 
I'm thinking of using my last boost.

Will Ashcroft, Lohmann, Erasmus & Clarke out.

Jack Martin, Horne Francis, Mills & Mckercher in.

Risky players in, but not sure how I'm going to get remaining rookies off field without going mid pricers. Brought in Matt Kennedy last week, so big hunk of cash went there.


Just had another play around.

Ashcroft, Lohmann & El-Hawli out

Mills, Josh Daicos & Martin in

Or change El-Hawli to Carroll and bring in Sinclair. Either way, think I prefer this. Horne Francis can wait a week.

If I do it......cue an Ashcroft 130. Nothing surer.
 
How many trades does everyone have left?
I'm at 7... About to go down to 5 this week if I bring Jackson in for Rankine

Sean Darcy rested is a great result especially against a first year ruck.

Jackson VC is kind of tempting now.

I'm guessing Sam Darcy's BE is like 140 or something, so he's probably got 40k to drop further. 65, 100, 99, 128, 82, 115 in his six full games this year for an average of 98.5. Richmond, Sydney, North next 3. Question is - is a six game sample enough to be sure he's top 6 or thereabouts?

Reckon it'll be won in the forwards - whoever gets the forward mix best will have such an advantage. 14 contenders for top 6-7, and only 2 I reckon are safe. I already have six of them, so if I get Darcy I'll probably be running Nic Martin as a utility or defender.

I'd be careful with Sam Darcy. He's not going to get Caminiti on him every week. Noah Balta will match up much better on him this Sunday, and while Sydney don't have an Andrews or Weitering type, they can usually strategise pretty well defensively with what they have got.

Looking at that list, common sense seems to be saying bring Macrae back in....

I mean yeah but he's 208cm with wingspan, ground level game, and moves around like he's 6 foot. This year he's scored

65 against North - Comben
100 against Collingwood - Moore
99 against Carlton - Weitering
128 against Fremantle - Pearce then Draper
82 against Brisbane - Andrews
115 against St Kilda - Caminiti then Keeler

I'd have instinctively thought Moore and Pearce with their height and speed would be two of the better matchups for him. Andrews has the height too. The only bloke that's seemingly kept him quiet was Comben.

Balta's 194cm. Normally we look past defenders playing undersized because the forwards taller than them don't have great craft. But Darcy on Balta is like Thilthorpe on Vlastuin or Curnow on Jayden Short in terms of the height differential.

I'm selling myself a bit, but it does feel a bit like 'just hope he doesn't kick straight' matching up on Darcy these days. Based only on a 6 game sample, admittedly.

Almost tempted to take it given I don't love the matchups of nearly anyone else, but it's too defensive.

Got a big TDK problem now given the Pittonet recall. Given McKay/HOK are out for awhile, it's probably one they'll run for the medium term too - they seem hell bent on a competitive second ruck option.

Breakeven is low enough that with a 70-80 odd he won't lose cash so can wait a week if needed. And hope Pitto plays 60% TOG and actually does some forward time. But gut says they'll play TDK KPF/2nd ruck.

If I do move on TDK, what do I do?

  • Marshall? Have made 70k since swapping them a fortnight ago but Marshall playing injured
  • Wait a week and go Gawn? It's a lot of cash, and he's got a tough run ahead
  • Wait a week, and play Jackson as R2 until a good ruck candidate emerges (Gawn after his hard run?)
  • English? Also a lot of cash, but the form line is reliable and floor high. Easy one this week then a hard 3 weeks
  • Grundy? Seems to be a popular one in Fantasy this week. 97 last year, 98 this year - that feels like his average these days but the 5 week average of 125 is wild.

I feel like it's probably one of the latter 3 options.

I'm confident with Mills however I made a stupid rookie error with him. Just assuming he had to replace someone in the backline, it was either Clark or Roberts that was going to go for him. Typical with the decisions I've made recently I decided to get rid of Clark. He said "f..K you Bandicoot" and went on to score 133 last night. The error I made was that I didn't need to replace either of them as I was getting rid of Flynn, who was my flex, and it would have been simpler just to put Mills in the flex position. If I'd done this I would have kept Clark's 133 and I would have saved a trade. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
My biggest error was three weeks ago when I brought in Merrett instead of Caldwell. Now, what to do with Merrett? I currently have 7 trades left but will be using 2 of them next week to bring in JHF and McCarthy. Do I get rid of him even though he will have dropped $70K from my purchase price OR do I hope he comes good. He obviously can't handle a tag and I've thought for the past couple of weeks "you're going to beat Essendon by a minimum of 5 goals so why worry about tagging Merrett?" That logic hasn't played out. If I get rid of Merrett I'll be down to 4 trades and I can guarantee he will score 120+ when he returns in rd 17.
So, in answer to your original question WE, yes, I would bring Mills in so just be careful as to who you get rid of for him. Ashcroft seems to be a good option imo.

Thanks for your reply. Trading out Clark was unfortunate. I read your earlier post where you said you were trading Clark out, I assumed it was the Essendon rookie for some reason. I think Merrett might be better after the bye, has a couple of easier games, but who knows with his role.

I'm still unsure whether to trade Ashcroft. Could just go Lohmann to Martin & Boxshall to Mills. Pass on Mckercher.

Or not trade at all. This is what I should do when in doubt. Can still get either of them next week I suppose.

Mills will be $45K - $50K dearer next week if all goes as expected.
