Blight was tried up forward and in the ruck and wasn't up to it so they sent him back to the VFL to play KPD which is clearly the role they want him to play long term. So unless you're planning on dropping either Balta or Miller there isn't a spot for him at the moment.
So, he was our best defender before they played around with him, which, unlike you, wasn't useless. He had to go back to the VFL to prove himself again, which he has. But Balta, who was useless in the VFL and Swans game, starts? It's obvious your mate Yze doesn't want him, so let's call it as it is. Gosh, Gray was great in his 3 games, yet he dropped him as well So much for rewarding efforts and all that BS.

Blight and Balta played in the same VFL game and Blight played 20x better and Balta got picked ahead of him (and then played poorly). We don't play players on form and we don't invest heavily in youth, we do a secret third thing.
Barking at the wrong trees, mate as they are ancient and have different views. On one end, they say we need to reward effort, and on the other, they say it will affect team balance.

I hear you, so if that's the case, why is Macca playing when he ain't the future? Play Tresize.
The whole purpose of the reserves is to press hard for selection. No position should be granted. Form dictates who plays.

Anyway, Im rapt for Alger, deserved his chance.

Will also look forward to the next month or so for Lalor, Smillie and Hotton to all be in.
Surely they can't play as it will affect team balance lol

Suspect Blight has signalled his intention to head home. He’s too good for VFL footy I don’t blame him.
He's just unlucky that he's turned up at a time when the club has a plethora of key defenders emerging.

There's no doubt that all of Miller, Balta and Gray are better players than him atm, and it's highly likely Gibcus will overtake him once fit.

Blight is doing well, but he does also have the most weaknesses out of those players, so if we have to move one on, it's likely to be him.

No problem with that, but when Mac is playing like crap, surely rules apply the other way.
Someone has to earn his spot, but he's untouchable.
We all know he's not being dropped.
He's being gifted games on the way out as we are like the Aussie cricket selectors (well, up until this week) ... too soft to end a career.
Like Bailey and co., we think every premiership player should have a two or three-year farewell tour.
As mentioned I believe that McIntosh was likely going to make way this week, but with McAuliffe getting hurt they kept him in to give us cover in the middle. I suspect when McAuliffe comes back in McIntosh will likely make way.

Don't just look at the stats when judging how well a player has performed. There was plenty of reports that Balta had a big impact in terms of organizing the back line and providing leadership.

As for the claim we don't heavily invest in youth, we're ranked 17th for average age and average games played this year with only Fremantle below us, if that's not heavily investing in youth then I've got no idea what is.

As mentioned Trezise doesn't play the same roles that McIntosh can play. Trezise is a HB who was tried as a wing with limited impact in that role. Little point bringing him in to replace McIntosh when he can't provide the same sort of cover that McIntosh does.

Disagree he was our best defender before we moved him around, if he was it made no sense to move him away from the position. I'd suggest he was moved because he wasn't playing that well down back at all, then when played in the ruck & forward he looked lost before being sent back to the VFL where he was able to settle into the key back role and perform well. Unfortunately for him Balta and Miller are better players overall and it's understandable that Balta hasn't played as well as he can given the constant interruptions to his season through his own fault.

bloody Sunday games.
Understand the AFL have pushed into the Sunday corner, to hide us away.
but every week it's the long wait.

I think yze keeps forgetting this is a free hit year. We have license to be shit as long as the kids are getting xp. The difference between playing kmac and trezise for example might be a goal or two difference in the margin. So what’s the benefit of playing kmac over him?

Once again, they don't play the same role. KMac has been used as a depth centre square midfielder mostly with stints on the outside at wing/back/forward. Trezise is a defender who was tried as a wing and didn't have the impact they wanted. So they sent him back to the VFL to play as a defender again where he has since thrived, now people want him back in the seniors to play a role he hasn't played where we've got other kids who can play that role once fit in McAuliife Dow Lalor & Smillie.

With the position were in, that is the wrong approach IMO.

If a kid is playing close to McIntoshs level they should be in the side ahead of him. Pumping games into a Trezise for example far outweighs the negligible benefit of playing Kmac every week.
He’s usually amongst the best at training and game sim. Some of our kids haven’t come in yet, and the rest are coming back from injury.

Not too many mids left to come in.

I don’t rate blight as a Back. He’s athletic but has no ****ing clue how to play the position. If you watch him closely his starting spots are bad.

I've been guilty of it myself, but I feel a lot of people get too caught up in what the stats sheet says and don't pay as much attention to what actually happens on the field

I’m not saying it’s a like for like swap, he’s being used for depth in a position we have well covered. I’m just saying give trezise his spot off the bench to be part of the defence/wing rotations. There’s not point playing kmac.

We've had to start playing Trainor on the wing because we can't fit him into the back line and you want to bring in another defender just so McIntosh gets omitted. IMO Trezise isn't one of the options to replace McIntosh, it's the likes of McAuliffe Dow Lalor Smillie who will be the ones who will force him out.

That's my stance entirely. There's no point playing him at all, we'd be better off playing Trezise (using him as an example here) in whatever position we're currently cramming Kmac into purely because on the balance of their output the difference wouldn't be so great that it justified playing a 31 year old in likely his final year over a 23 year old.

The output might not be that different, but it's the role that is the big difference. Trezise has no idea how to play in the centre square where McIntosh has played most of his game time this year. So if we're looking at replacing him with a younger option then it needs to be someone who long term is going to play that role, not someone who happens to be younger. It will be interesting to see what happens when we do start getting those other guys back from injury if McIntosh remains in the line up when they're all back as I expect things to quickly change as we move to the younger generation.

Blight is killing it in the vfl
In much better form than balta
It's strange why he has not played a game for so long
He is a natural defender
Miller and balta started as ruck forwards neither of them are great defender's
But miller has gone past balta
Balta is a surplus we don't need we should trade him to the sons or eagles

Says all we need to know about noah balta

Just think, no one is getting anywhere with Blight; the natives are on a killing spree. So we will win the VFL flag with him and Gray, and the kid will be living the high life back in Perth with a team that appreciates him. What I like is reading eg, Tresize has been tried on the wing and hasn't shown much, but they fail to say Ross, Sonz are getting games when they are putrid. Just as blight not getting a game because Balta is better! Then they say trainor was moved to the wing because he is not a good defender, even though the guy was killing it lol
