Soooooooooo, what's the go hear? King heading in for his 3rd surgery this year. Phillipou out injured and Dave Misson gives an interview saying the Plantaris is not a serious injury, you don't even NEED that tendon and basically says it's no big deal. Now he's out again with more issues related to his Plantaris.

What the **** are we doing?

Going against professionals and letting a kid play because he thinks he'll be alright is well below standard. It's not good enough. We need to be better.
"Okay, Matteas, youve had time off.. your calf feels fine you say and youve just spent a week training 100% with no issue"

"Sorry, better hold you back an indefinite amount of time because there's a chance you might injure it again, but we cant be sure."

Is this the better youre looking for?

Nice one.

Did you watch Lyon's post game press conference?

He came on in his last game and lasted 5 minutes.

Yes I think under the circumstances if the sports science people said they were concerned, the club should have listened to them.

Yes I did and you're effectively claiming that the club just overrules/ignores medical advice, but only when it suits the narrative. Butler wasnt rushed back, Clark wasnt rushed back, hell even King was never forced to just play despite the genuine thought for a period that it was associated pain as opposed to an actual injury. Stocker just returned from a calf injury as well but was not rushed back apparrently.

He said they had concerns he could have a soft tissue injury. There is always a risk post injury of re-occurence, that isnt new. He had three weeks off and was training fully without issue and was obviously given the tick to play. Lyon, to his detriment, often throws out nuggets like this with no context. You dont think that perhaps he was ticked off to play but the general warnings that a re-injury might be possible, watch for signs/tightness etc...?

Yeah tend to agree. I think people are making too big a deal of this. Medical science isn’t infallible, even with the best knowledge you’re still relying mostly on the player’s report on how they feel, and on a bit of luck.

Are they though? Lyon’s basically come out and said they were warned their was a risk of soft tissue injury and they decided not to take the conservative approach.

We’ve been reminded with King all year that it’s a 6 year plan, not 6 weeks, yet we’re seeing a contradicting approach with Pou. And, it hasn’t been an isolated incident either.

When he said that it wasn't clear for mine if he was reffering to last week or this week.

I really hope for the clubs sake it was last week.

We don't see the other side of the coin - how much are they warned of the risk of soft tissue injury, take the risk, it all goes ok.

Risk is just that. It's not a perfect science regardless of how much we all want it to be.

There’s minimal reward for the risk when we’re in the early to medium stages of a list rebuild and sitting 15th on the ladder with 5 wins and 9 losses.

Even if we get Pou on the park and he escapes injury, which evidently was at odds, he plays forward with no midfield minutes in a line that’s relatively starved of entry.

The real reward is next year if he can get a full pre season, build up his conditioning, and we can get him back to playing in the guts.

King officially ruled out for the season

Full explanation on the website too

" The procedure sought to repair damage to the medial aspect of his knee, which has been causing occasional but persistent pain since February.... will allow him to be ready for the commencement of pre-season"

Not full knee reco which I can hopefully say is a positive.

So round 1 is it, seems pretty much exact dejavu from last year.

We don't actually struggle to win clearance, or get it i50. Our entries against the Pies weren't even that bad (-4). However having someone 200cm to kick it to does make it a lot easier to take a mark and bring it to ground.

Getting clearance doesn’t necessarily equate to getting “entry” which is also a transition issue. We are ranked 5th last for inside 50s this year.

Once we get the ball inside 50, we are ranked 5th in the AFL for marks inside 50, which nonetheless is off topic in terms of getting Pou on the park just to be starved of entry inside 50.

Noted in the Max article that "he'll be off-legs for a number of months".....????

Jesus christ, what are we doing here? Even a full reco has you weight baring in a couple of weeks at the most. My missus smashed her ankle to smithereens and even she was back partial weight baring in 6 or so weeks after surgery.

I'm now firmly in the camp that we need to replace him ASAP, if he comes good then thats great but he can't be the default option anymore. This generation of players depends on us being able to find a key target in front of the ball.

Between King and Pou, we are pissing away another decade with some shit decision making, and those responsible have to be relieved of their duties.

We've got 3 genuine blue chip youngsters - we're ruining the bodies of 2 of them, and the 3rd would be looking at this and, to be perfectly honest, would be crazy not to head back to Adelaide....

Off legs means not running. Jesus christ people, have some common sense.

it’s like

Aaron Hamill
Nathan Freeman
Paddy McCartin

are collectively not a big enough sample.

Well if my missus gives me clearance, I get entry, so the two are inextricably linked for mine........
