Sunday’s forecast for the MCG is for fine conditions and little wind. We need to use this as preparation for a possible finals game at the MCG in September.

In - Murray. Out - Butts
This is a tough call for Butts however we need to play our best 7 defenders and Murray is our best tall defender.

In - Peatling. Out - Murphy
Despite all the bleating, Murphy played a typical Murphy game. He did a couple of things that made me want to pull my hair out, did some nice things and was solid defensively. He was no worse than Pedlar but imho Pedlar offers more upside. Providing that Pedlar is fit, I would give him another chance.

In - Draper. Out - Smith
I am still hopeful that we will play in September and that Sid will be part of the team. It would be great for him to get a run on the MCG. Brodie has been OK in his four games this year (two as sub) but we know what he offers. If not Draper then hopefully Dowling or Edwards.

Pedlar as Sub?

Win on the weekend and we'll be 3rd lose and we could be as low as 7th. Corresponding game last year killed our season and that was at home. Hopefully there's no hiccups this time round.

Murray has had a game in the magoos after a heavily injury-interrupted season, let him put a few games together to get confidence in his body before bringing him back in

This is a reasonable approach but if he is ready to go, I don’t think we will hold him back.

I hope it will make very little difference this Sunday if we play Butts or Murray but we need to have Muzz ready for the Melbourne match and even more so for the Bulldogs match.

This isn't true, we've done it with Curtin, he started the year slowly and has built himself into the team and now performing. Sometimes you just need to allow the talent time to get up to speed and we do not do it enough.

It only takes a cursory glance at the forward slot vacated by Curtin to see that there were short-term reasoning for Dan being used as a fourth tall in early 2025. After all, we've gone through three different options (Taylor, Pedlar, and Murphy with Taylor's fall in the depth chart being particularly notable) since we decided to switch Dan to the wing, which indicates that we don't particularly rate what's left of our small forward depth and Curtin was simply the best forward we had available until our/his needs changed.

The idea that any spot is given out to let a kid "get up to speed" is pure revisionism. There are always going to be short term list considerations in regards to selection.

And didn’t the head honchos “almost” admit to bringing him back too early or playing him and Crouch through injury?

Very unlucky for Butts if he is out for Murray.

He probably needs to go to another club lacking quality KPD, ie Port.

He is AFL best 22 standard.

Not at all. Butts had an opportunity to replace Murray due to injury, and showed in this time that he's nothing more than capable depth.

Butts for Murray, like any reintroduction of a best 22 member, is change that really couldn't come sooner.

I think you're overrating Murray's contribution, and underrating what Buttsy has brought to the side in his absence.
