May I suggest including farming land in your remuneration package? It seems to be an effective way of attracting players and there's no need to report it to the AFL, so it cuts down on admin costs.

Hopefully the AFL doesn't Cotton On to our strategy.

Not everyone has farmland though. You’ve got to rort with what you have at your disposal. For us it’s lifestyle, academies and being coached by a grandfather figure. At Adelaide it’s…never mind.

Unfortunately, when we consistently finish near the top of the ladder, have a raft of round-1 father-son and academy selections we need draft picks for, and we have a culture so good that no one wants to leave, trading for the established players we need is not really an option.
Occasionally we'll pick up the young forward we desperately need with pick-31 in the draft who comes in makes an immediate impact, but we can't rely on this strategy every year, which leaves us with free agency as our only lever.

So all we can do is sign the available free agents - with the promise of playing for a team in a premiership window; the opportunity to live out of the football bubble; and live in a place with a "winter" climate most southerners can only dream of (myself included). If we happen to manage our salary cap that we can hold onto all our established stars, enabling us to slip a little extra to said free agents to help get the deal over the line, then so be it.

It's a cursed position we're in...

The Crows can offer a weekly call-in spot with Rowey on 5AA OR a dreadful podcast spot with LISTNR/Triple M Adelaide. That's what Fogarty took.

5aa would be wonderful if after the crippling losses a player had to sit on the line with Rowey and interact with the callers.

The Lockyer valley is just outside Springfield. Lots of farmland if we can get Springfield Corp. to buy some.

He had an assistant coach on a few weeks back, asked him why Sid Draper was the sub... after the coach went through a minute long answer Rowey just goes "That's absolute crap and you know it" :hearteyes:

Hipwood on the lead is fine but in a pack forget it, it’s not a strength (save for when he plays the bulldogs). At least Fort is starting to clunk a few.

I don't want to pay overs of Draper, lol. I'm fine with Darcy Fort and Henry Smith and drafting charlie Hewitt from our academy this year.
 
Whatever happened with Geelong taking on GC's salary cap dump? Did everyone just pretend it never happened and they are back to signing whoever they want for however much they want again?

It was 2022. They took the $1.6 million over 2 years and then spread it out across 4 years.

I heard they also gave him an intern position under Chris Scott in Morris Finance for another $200k per year poor man's intern salary.

To add salt to the wound Jason I was supposed to fly up to the Gold Coast yesterday for a week off but had to bump back a month due to work commitments.

I try to take a week off every month in winter & get up to the Goldie. Breaks up the winter nicely.
 
I really like Henry Smith.. Although he struggled with injuries
If Oscar back stuffed might be good for his future just to retire.
Fort I do not think is too bad although if Oscar retires and Smith does not get a run with things we need someone else.
Hence Draper :( The whole free agents going to better sides for free does not really sit good with me.
Yes some magic draft pick goes back to the original club, that pushes everyone's picks back more.
I just do not think it's great.

I know we have had luck with the magic Brisbane River with some players.
Been a few not worked out.. Getting in Allen and Draper with Doedee still not playing.
Is a big chunk of salary cap
 
I am happy if something like the below happens
Just don't want another injured player like Draper

Would be happy to get O'Brien though.
We don't have trade capital, but the Crows have done well with getting our VFL players in Keays & Hinge.
They would probably be happy for another one.
