I’d give a late first for Bergman in this draft.
Limited exposure, looks every bit a midfielder ready to break out. Age fits a list need.
I’d also trust that port offering him an 8 year deal speaks a fair bit about their level of confidence.
Just as likely to draft a bloke who’s delisted in 4 years time.
If he did nominate us, I'd try to split pick 4 for two picks in the teens.

One for Bergman and then give Dalrymple a chance to nab someone. Not ideal given the draft isnt seen as the deepest but gives us two chances at turning that pick into someone very good.

Some wierd things coming from moorabin Long time doctor goes, enright being pushed forward before 2027, trade whispers.. ... is Lyon safe? Is this why NAS has not signed?

This is in essence why a ‘war chest’ has been accumulated - so we can afford to pay over the market price to bring high end talent through the door, as opposed to over paying the talent we already have on our list.

Essentially, it’s not surprising that we’re paying overs in contrast to the market or Carlton’s evaluation, as this is the strategy.
It's a great strategy except that prime targets (Callahan, LDU, etc) turned us down and we were left with a war chest that we have to spend on the first bloke who says yes.

If we get our hands on pick 4 surely we take that to the draft for a mid?

We missed out on a few very good mid options last year thanks to that last win against Carlton.

I’d prefer to trade Marshall for a pick, and move that for Bergman.

It looks at this rate that Fincher could be worth a late first, early second so our first pick needs to land before then so we essentially double dip.

Have to give our talent identification a nod though, they also targeted Draper & Xerri well before they broke out.

TDK in, pick 4 and Marshall into another good mid would be good business, the salary cap will work out with rises in TPP.

I have a friend who is well connected to the top people in South Australian recruiting and player management.
I’m starting to hear rumours that Bergman smells like sausages.
I guess the question the club needs to ask is if we really want to bring players in that “allegedly” smell like sausages… particularly if they’re ball butchers.

I can’t give the names of the people I get my info from… cause… you know… someone might kill them… or something.
Port Adelaide list manager at the trade table be like

Bergman averages 2 tackles and has had one game with over 3 clearances this year.

We traded for Zak Jones om the premise that he'd become a mid…

If we can get in two mids or very good players, I'd rather that than go all in one 1 midfielder.

I hope we dont trade Marshall.I'd rather try the two rucks and trade Marshall for less in 12 months then spend $1.7mill for a sideways move with leaves us with the same amount of top players.

Most draft watchers on the draft board have Fincher as a late pick at this stage. Talk about him as a first rounder prospect seems to be a bit premature.

I’d be happy to try two rucks with 27 year old Ro, but he’s clearly lumbering compared to years gone by and I’d be willing to cash in.

Finchers early season form is undeniable at all 3 levels (state, Talent League and school) and generally journos get their form guides from those in the know. If he maintains this, he’s every bit a first round prospect.

Ro also didnt have a preseason with his pelvis injury. I'd be wary of writing him off as cooked too early given that. Get a proper conditioning block in him and there's every chance he's straight back to his best.

I hope you're right about Fincher. We are due a first round gift. If the Talent League coaches would play in the middle like he does at APS level, he would probably shoot right up the rankings.

Agree. Even if we can't split the pick then (depending where it lands) I'd still consider trading it for Bergman + Port's 2nd. I'm sure that would go down very well on here.

Seems a pretty good draft to trade out of as it stands. No real standouts at the top end and almost as likely to get the best player in the draft at pick 40 as pick 4 (aka doing a Freijah)

IMO someone like Grlj would not have gone top 30 last year - if that's the quality available at our pick then it should definitely be on the table. Saw a recruiter referred to it as the "Meat Loaf of drafts" this week. I like Greeves and Sharp but suspect they'll be long gone... and Annable/Uwland off limits... outside of that it all feels very meh right now. Still a long way to go however

No new info on NWM

Windy unsigned and attracting interest

Preliminary interest in Flanders but Suns have shut down any trade talks involving him

We havent been ruled out of the race for Bergman

Still interested in Aleer

Geelong front-runners for Worpel
Would be very surprised if Ross lets Windy go.

If it's a top five pick I don't think we can afford to split it. Would rather use futures. Surely there's still some good that high up in this year's draft.

Just a reminder that Bergman is 23 and still developing .... he is also uncontracted ... or at least will be .... so its not like Port have us by the short and curlies like Freo did with Hill who was a contracted player.

We will have to pay of course but it absolutely won't be what Port wants
Let’s hope that favours not returned with Nas …

If we have Pick 4 or better we would be absolutely reckless in splitting it for two picks in the teens.
This draft seems more speculative than normal and pick 4 might be pick 7 or 8 by the time we use it.

Take pick 4 and we might end up with a gun player.

If we split, we have a known quantity in Bergman and a free hit to get a second gun.
