Sunday’s forecast for the MCG is for fine conditions and little wind. We need to use this as preparation for a possible finals game at the MCG in September.

In - Murray. Out - Butts
This is a tough call for Butts however we need to play our best 7 defenders and Murray is our best tall defender.

In - Peatling. Out - Murphy
Despite all the bleating, Murphy played a typical Murphy game. He did a couple of things that made me want to pull my hair out, did some nice things and was solid defensively. He was no worse than Pedlar but imho Pedlar offers more upside. Providing that Pedlar is fit, I would give him another chance.

In - Draper. Out - Smith
I am still hopeful that we will play in September and that Sid will be part of the team. It would be great for him to get a run on the MCG. Brodie has been OK in his four games this year (two as sub) but we know what he offers. If not Draper then hopefully Dowling or Edwards.

Pedlar as Sub?
Why so keen to rush back an underdone Murray when Butts is in good form?

We already made this mistake once this season...

Not at all. Butts had an opportunity to replace Murray due to injury, and showed in this time that he's nothing more than capable depth.

Butts for Murray, like any reintroduction of a best 22 member, is change that really couldn't come sooner.

Butts has been more than serviceable and improves each week.
Had a cracking last game from memory.

I think you're overrating Murray's contribution, and underrating what Buttsy has brought to the side in his absence.
Murray only had 1 decent game this year before his injury & was ordinary in other games as was clearly not fit.

There is no reason to rush him back again when Butts is doing an decent job.

Get him in good sanfl form & have him right for the business end.

Because Murray is better than Butts and he has to come in at some point. Why not against a bottom 4 side?
Because we rushed him back last time & put him back months.

We need him right when it really matters.

Crazy risking him when he is underdone against a bottom team.

He could do an injury whether he came back now or a month. If he's fit he plays. In saying that i would play Murray forward, drop Walker and play Butts down back

It's a bigger risk to play an underdone player at AFL level compared to SANFL level as its a much higher standard & quicker.

We made a mistake of playing Murray before he was fully fit last time.

I hope we learn this time, but Nicks repeats his mistakes as he is not very smart.

I would also rest Tex, but go smaller.

Butts capable depth?
Really?

Do you think we pick both Butts and Murray in the same team?
I wouldn't think so but I see no need to rush Murray back either when Butts is more suited to clamping down on Tom Lynch IMO.

Thanks for the medical analysis Doctor Kane.

He played well in the SANFL nearly two weeks ago. If the medical experts give him the go ahead I am inclined to trust their diagnosis over yours.

The situation is quite different to earlier in the season. Muzza jarred his knee in March and we were hopeful that it would come good with rest. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. His knee required a clean out and there is no indication of a long term problem.

It is possible that he will injure himself again but that is as likely in the SANFL as the AFL.

After missing a year of footy with an ACL, how many games did Tex play in the Twos?

Wow, 1 game in the sanfl. Must have gained so much match fitness.

How did Murray go in the AFL earlier this season? Be honest now with your assessment... if that is possible for your ego!

Yep, 1 game in the SANFL. The same as Tex who came back from an ACL after a year.

As I outlined above, the Murray situation was different earlier in the year.

I know that it is is important to attribute everything that goes wrong to NDS or CDS but sometimes negative things happen.
