Whatever happened with Geelong taking on GC's salary cap dump? Did everyone just pretend it never happened and they are back to signing whoever they want for however much they want again?

They were immediately able to restructure the deal which GCS weren’t able to do. So kinda defeated the purpose of the whole thing, to the benefit of old Geelong of course.

If you are going to spend overs for a player to fill a position it should only happen if you in a window or it's a select key player that you build a team around. If the money is there and produces another flag and doesn't affect the culture then just get it done.

At this time, I would prefer Draper over Allen.

its a no from me dawg GIF

O'Brien is a cooker and is a few years too old but is a genuinely good intercept mark. Would be real useful for us at a lower cost.

But Draper is wish.com Joe Daniher. How could you not want that?!?

I am happy if something like the below happens
Just don't want another injured player like Draper

Would be happy to get O'Brien though.
We don't have trade capital, but the Crows have done well with getting our VFL players in Keays & Hinge.
They would probably be happy for another one.

Possible scenarios:

  • St Kilda gets Tom De Koning, loses Rowan Marshall
  • Geelong gets Rowan Marshall, Rhys Stanley retires
  • Adelaide gets Sam Draper, loses Reilly O'Brien
  • Essendon gets Sean Darcy, loses Sam Draper
  • Carlton gets Reilly O'Brien, loses Tom De Koning
  • Fremantle loses Sean Darcy, Luke Jackson stays long-term
  • Collingwood re-signs Darcy Cameron
I was under the impression that St Kilda wanted to keep Marshall, as both Marshall and De Koning can play forward, and partner Max King up forward. Which they are hoping helps free up King somewhat.

Priority 1 for me is Allen.

Re Draper, i wonder if he is only if we miss out Allen OR if Smith goes?

He’d be a very good second ruck. I think he could be a good contest forward when we kick it long, but not convinced he has much forward craft / ability to create space with leading patterns.

If Smith leaves we would be light on for genuine ruckmen given we’d only have 2 and both old.

As others have said Draper at $700k is fine much more and seems silly

lot of scuttlebutt on other team boards that zac bailey is gettable for the right price.

might make sense if we hope to land both of draper and allen?

Zac is contracted to end of 2026. Why would he leave Brisbane where he is playing great footy with a team that may challenge for flags for several years to come?
Even with that, I think he’s FA at end of next year which would be the time to move if he’s after a big payday.

The scuttlebutt just seems to be he's a pre-agent + Allen/Draper coming in MUST mean Brisbane is out of money, therefore he = GETTABLE?

What's the point of trading him this year? Any decent pick is eaten up with the Annable bid. I don't think salary cap is an issue, Joe leaving created space and we can always manage it for a year.

I'd just keep him for another year if we can't extend him. But I'd be trying to keep him long-term, because he's a good player and having good players = good.

We'll never be out of money

With Oscar’s future being questioned, and Fort in his 30s, there has to be some backup. I think Smith with be No.1 in a few years, and Draper could be handy for the immediate few years, but it still leaves the list shallow for talls.
I’m surprised Brisbane’s isn’t looking at one of the Americans from the recent international combine. Some very athletic talls there. Worth a considering a cheap international project player as backup until the next crop of academy talls come through.

(No Mason Cox comparisons please)

I've always been surprised Bailey hasn't been in high demand for a few clubs who need decent small forwards. You could plug and play Bailey close to goals and get a pretty good return I reckon. Can also play multiple other positions.

I know he has missed plenty of footy this year, but oscar seems pretty fit again?

31 in july. If he follows in other footsteps of ruckmen who started late, could easily have 2-3 good years

Even just from the lions think Martin and Hudson, both started late and played until mid 30s

I think he has, but hasn't shown any desire to play for anyone other than Flagbane.

Remember when people were ready to run Clug outta town last year for a draft pick that would have just helped us match a Levi bid… which we did anyway with ease?

I remember.

We haven’t lost anyone we genuinely wanted to keep in a very long time. No reason to start.

I don't. Name and shame the poster so we can torch them.

Edit: it was BRAB wanting to trade Hugh and some copper wire he stole from Nerang Station for pick 10.

I'm one that has given James Herd a second chance.

Then I've always thought the 2 clubs involved were lied to by Dank and what was in the supplements. Let's not forget the Cronulla Sharks in the NRL also had the same issue and their coach Shane Flanagan seems to have served no lingering hate from supporters and went back to being a head coach now at St George.

The biggest difference between Herd and Flanagan was how the clubs and the leagues handled the situation once found out. I just think both coaches agreed to something, trusting, or not thinking, or not demanding chemical testing of the substance. Once found out it was taken from their hands by the Public Relations people, the club Hierarchy, the League Administrators and so on and that's where the difference was. Herd was the scape goat he was a deer in the headlights, Flanagan was supported that a coach did not have the knowledge, nor the people under them to decide on such risky strategies, for Flanagan a mistake was a mistake and lets move on.

Just my view - Dank was some piece of work, he was trying to make the big bucks selling a 'snake oil'.

Not excusing the behaviour of the Bombers or those involved entirely, but I also think Hird wasn’t alone in AFL circles. He got scapegoated somewhat - which I think is the perception of many Essendon fans - given you’d have to think Geelong for example were doing similar in the late 00’s under Thompson. He arrived at the club the same year the supplements program was administered.

Hird’s emails overruling Reid were pretty damning, but I’m sure if people went digging into many clubs you’d find something newsworthy.

I’ve also always felt for the players. If you’re drafted to a professional sporting club, with doctors, conditioning staff etc you’d expect them to be operating within the rules. Those that were really early in their careers I feel even more for, given they’d be looking at leaders in the playing group participating in the program - it would take a hell of a lot to break ranks and not be involved especially at 20 years old.

Totally agree, IMO 99.99% of players would have trusted club staff in regards to what they were taking. What player would go out on their own and demand a sample to take to an independent lab for testing.
