It was pointed out to me once from someone who’s been around some AFL players that they tend to have a presence.

Some local boys were drafted and went out together one night. The player who walked in with his chest out and the “look at me” arrogance is still in the system. The other player who slipped in late and sat in the corner all night is no longer.

Smith reminds me of the later. No presence, not prepared to take the oppo on, no physicality - a neat kick but too nice to be an AFL player.

I think you are spot on. There is something missing with this kid. I wish it wasn't the case but he just lacks star power.

Yep and Sinclair should be the exact player Kaleb should be aspiring to become in the future
Would be such a massive bonus if this kid can get near that level

He's pretty much a lock to get a new contract. 20 year old, 12 gamer currently in the senior team. If he didn't break through via good VFL performances it might've been at risk (2 30+ disposal games out of 3). I'm not going to rip into the kid like some.

Has had a couple decent AFL games, a couple bad games. Needs another preseason.

Only elite prospects really show their traits in the AFL from this early on. Not saying he's going to make it but it's too early to make a call one way or the other.

Too early to make a call on either way
Occasionally does some really nice things and has a few howlers but that’s generally how it goes with most young players

If seen kids who look worse make it and others who seem better make the grade

Give him another two years and see it he’s making gains year over year

Depending on the player, I would think somewhere between 30-50.

Its really a vexed situation because everyones different. Im sure someone who will show no signs of anything by 51 games will be defended by another who will indicate the player is young and needs 60 games. etc

but yeah, i get what you mean. 30 is probably around the mark
