In this game, I suspect the criteria included avoiding a massive scandal.

Poms will stick with leg theory for Head. 2023 Ashes tour it was relatively effective - his best innings was on a seamer where conditions made them switch to off stump.
Put a couple of bucks on Webster/inglis being top scorer for the series. 2023 had best laid bowling plans to the top 5 but nothing for anyone else, and what happened Mitch marsh came in and got gifted a hundred

for anyone worried about the home ashes, remember that in 13/14 all it took was brad haddin's grinding knocks to gain the ascendancy for australia. no one batted well other than haddin when the series was on the line early. australia's bowlers are every bit as good as then - yes probably no one has the worldy that mjohnson had, but the collective is certainly better.

and that was an england side with probably the best top six they've ever put together.

Interesting observation. Might be a good time to have a really unsettled batting line up.

Green dropped Carty on 1 in the second dig. He went on to 20.

Carey dropped King behind; was pretty easy but he's not Top 4 (well, not in the batting order anyway, but he's performing Top 4 :sneaky: ) and his second dig more than makes up for it.
Konstas dropped a sitter in the last three or four overs.

Yeah, he needs to get back on The Horses.

Also, thats nuts from Alistair Cook, 159 on the trot

Truly a feat of ‘went to the right school, his dad knows the right people and his jawline is the correct shape’.

To be fair if the side loses comfortably which Windies did in the end the MOM should go to a Australian player.
Yeah, unless your name is Jacques Kallis or Jasprit Bumrah. Their teams could be dominated against the entire match but those two could be in the convo for MOTM.

It's been a good streak for him but not the West Indies. Obviously he's a quality player but i notice he always goes missing when the team needs him.

Recently for the most part yes (won them the match from a batting perspective in their previous match in Pakistan but outside of that has been dire over the past 2 years)

But up to his century in Australia the tour before last summer had been fairly good at making hard runs. Often forgotten because of the bloke at the other end but he made a century and a 90 in the famous Shai Hope test as well

England went into tests with Hutton, Washbrook, Hammond, Edrich and Compton.

yes that's correct. what's the point here? maybe that top six is better? sure, much of a muchness and not worth comparing, certainly not an argument i'm interested in.
I think his point might be that Trott and Carberry weren't fit to tie the 5 mentioned players boots. One of them went home crying. And Stokes debuted at 6, so hardly could've been considered in their "best top 6 ever"

3 of the 5 he mentioned would rightly be called legends of the game. Cook and Root probably also to be fair.

And at least all 5 he mentioned were ACTUALLY English.

While Smith showed the class of a man who has more than 10,000 runs in the bank to pick apart the Windies attack on a tricky pitch, it was the composure of Green during his 123-ball knock that will please the Australian hierarchy the most.

...and equally for those of us that have always backed the big West Aussie.

Josh Hazlewood's 5for WON it for us. My MVP. Loves bowling in the Caribbean with his piddling @14 av.
Yes, I would not have been surprised if he got MotM but those who decide it often go for batsmen.
I bet Josh would love to take that pitch with him.
His excellent line and length are well-suited to a wicket like that.
