Autopsy Round 16, 2025 AFL Season: Dockers drench Saints

Higgins biggest issue is his kicking terrible ball drop, we need him to nail those goals especially when he's only 30 meters out.

Also not enough forward pressure from him either, i would of rather Butler stay on & Higgo off at least Butts has speed & can run his opponent around

I'm no Clark hater, but what do you think serves us better in the long run - 16 touches from 26 year old Clark or getting a senior game into 18 year old Boxshall?

I'd actually drop Carroll, bring in Box and play Clark as sub this week.
Agree 100% id also drop butler and have dodson and keeler as our talls and sharman and owens as more mobile fwds with higgo and henry as smalls..

Box has had to wait, wont do him any harm, but I wouldn't mind Carroll getting a full game tbh.
Clark makes things happen. If he was 29 years old, i d agree with you. But not now.

Just saw our Centre bounce attendance stats from yesty and sorry if sound like broken record, but Steele and McCrae both at over 82% of them is not going to help us long term.
Need maximum of 1 of them in there and then 2 of Garcia, Clark, Pou, Hall, Naz, Mitchito (as a mid, not ruck) Box, Windy etc etc

For those wondering for reasons why Fremantle ran over the top of us, a 10-day break for the Dockers with no travel in between would have helped.
I’m not buying it.

I just think, similar to Collingwood, Freo had more seasoned and damaging match ups below to get things going when the game was up for grabs, and they also stopped playing into in our hands in the final quarter when finally going long and direct as well as getting it done in the coal face.
  • Hall vs. Jordan Clark
  • Treacy oversized vs. Wilkie
  • Darcy/Jackson vs. Caminiti
  • Serong vs. Garcia (Garcia well and truly beat him for the day though)
  • Cox vs. Keeler

It’s disappointing to concede 35 points in a final quarter after being 2 goals up with momentum.

I thought we absolutely came out with the perfect strategy and set ourselves up for a win by amping up the pressure to win the clearance and ground ball, making it gritty in their F50 with real defensive pressure, and forcing them lateral without any real distance. It was the perfect game for Tauru as we were perfectly set with their slow ball movement.

We just lacked a little polish too which keeps sides in the hunt.

Only four non-rucks attended CBAs for us yesterday: Macrae, Steele, Garcia and Clark.

Moving on from the Big Footy spuds, aside from Tauru and Hall, my favourite part of the game was Garcia's cleanness from stoppage.

His previous AFL games had a few too many fumbles at ground level. If he is going to be a truly elite player, then fumbles have to be a rarity. I didn't see any today. He was one grab at stoppage.

Then in the last quarter, we saw him burn away from a stoppage, take two bounces and hit a teammate on the tit.

This is a bloke who can also get 10 clearances and up near double figure tackles in some matches.

He has literally everything, it's whether he can put it all together and today's match was a pretty good step forward.
I liked the example given by Lyon, very similar in development to brayshaw, just need to get these kids to 50 games.

I actually don't mind having 2 plodders in the centre square as long as they use their bodies to create space for our runners. Similar to what the cats are doing, the likes of Atkins makes room for the dash of Holmes and Smith.

Fair enough. All valid points.

I wasn't saying it was the reason, just a contributing reason. We certainly lost the midfield battle in the last quarter after absolutely smashing them apart for the first three quarters. Clearances were 42-14 at one stage.

Yeah mate, very disappointing to see Freo get on top as much as they did in the final quarter in the coal face 😔

Imagine scores are level in a GF with one team getting it out only for a player for the opposition dropping like a bag of shit so the umpires blow the whistle.
Imagine Collingwood losing a GF like that. The demolition of the Southern stand at the G would start sooner than planned.

As the old saying goes..bad kicking is bad football. The Higgins and Wood misses, which were pretty easy shots for those two, really stuffed us. The field kicking was ordinary, with dump kicks out of the backline continually going to Freo players, and turnovers here and there when we were moving the ball up the ground. This has been going on all season, and not getting any better- I hope it improves one day.

Yep, Tauru, Garcia, Hall, Ro, Steele and Macrae did very well and Keller continues to show enormous potential, however I think Windy's game was underrated. He is a beast, is versatile, focussed and increasingly gets the ball out of difficult situations. His improvement this season continues his upward trajectory. He'll start kicking more goals soon.

Absolutely mate. Really good to see him off the leash.

I’d say it’s more Steele and Macrae keeping Boxshall out than Clark which is a problem that’s not going away any time soon. The two of them are clearly going to play every week but jeez I’d love to see them split their time somewhere else in the back end of the year to get Boxshall in.

I remember saying early days with sincs maybe a year or two in how few weaknesses he had and thinking what his cieling could be. Maxy Hall is the same. I’d be giving him some more midfield time.

Like in all seriousness what are his weaknesses, ball winning ?

He’s a beautiful kick, strong m smart.

Also just reminds of those guys who step up in big finals games.

As a side note - really enjoyed Will Schofield on commentary yesterday, thought he and Pav were insightful and offered much more than the usual cliches, without making the coverage about them, or being too parochial.
