Best Brothers to play the game

Surprising Gary, Geoff and Kevin Ablett are not mentioned often on this. We all know that Gary was a freak. Geoff was a very good player in his own right. Played over 200 games and 2 flags. Had blistering pace on the wing. Kevin wasted his talent similar to his nephew Nathan I guess. And then you can extend it further being Michael Tuck is the Ablett's brother in law.

If you look at in terms of the accomplishments of the weaker brother, then the Coventrys and Colliers were the strongest brother combos.

Also, people throwing Brad f*cking Scott's named around like he was some great player need to slap themselves.

This is probably the perfect thread for me to raise that I've long felt that the Cornes brothers are underrated - likely due to their 'unlikeable' status (which has only worsened with Kane's post career).

In justifying my view:

Kane was actually a prolific ball winner for his time, having over 590 disposals 8 seasons in his career (at an average of over 27 touches across those years). This is particularly noteworthy given his primary role through most of those years was as a defensive mid, shutting down the opposition's best midfielder - which he did to great effect. He had one of the best tanks in the AFL and was a genuinely 2 way player - able to tag others out of the game while racking up the touches himself. He won his club's best and fairest an AFL-era record 4 times (including in strong teams) and was a multiple All Australian. He also finished top 3 in the Norm Smith in his club's only AFL flag.

His brother Chad, however, was even better. He started his career as a handy key forward, forming a strong partnership with Warren Tredrea when Port were winning minor premierships. He'd average 16+ touches as a key forward and was top 2 - 5 every season for contested marks. His move, however, to CHB was a game changer - and I believe the primary reason Port went from finals chokers to premiers in 2004. In his first year at CHB, Chad dominated all the gun forwards he came up against (Hall, Brown, Riewoldt, etc), whilst averaging 21 disposals himself (as a KPD!). He finished 3rd in the Brownlow as a key defender (never happened since), 2nd in the Coaches votes and was obviously the AA CHB. He was excellent in the finals too, keeping Jonathon Brown to 1 behind (0 goals) in the GF. After a couple of great years at CHB, Port weren't still competing at the pointy end as their midfield was not great. What did they do? Put Chad in there. The result was that that in 2007, Port unexpectedly surged up the ladder and even made the Grand Final, with Chad racking up 643 disposals, leading the comp in kicks, contributing 31 goals + assists and again making the AA team, this time as a mid. Chad was pipped by Gary Ablett to finish runner in the Coaches award and was top 5 in the Players MVP also. Not many players are a good KPF, a gun key defender and a gun mid all in one.

Not saying these guys are the best brothers of all time but I think both of these players have been quite underrated for some time now.

I can't believe there has not been one nomination for the best brothers in history. Albert and Harry Collier.
Played in 12 Premierships between them (6 each) and both won a Brownlow.
lol. I'm sure they were good in what was the equivalent of YJFL.

Phil and Jimmy were better but played in a comp with more than a few teams. Hard to compare eras obviously.

Jimmy and Phil do not come close to the Colliers. Jimmy could only make the bench in teh kangas Team of the Century, Phil could not even make it. Krakouers were good, the Colliers immortals.
