Not sure if this is the right place for this discussion but what are the future positional changes you think are necessary for our squad?

A couple I’m thinking:
  • Sharman to the wing to replace Mason when he retires. Fit enough and a good mark, less pressure than up front.
  • Keeler to replace Cooper and play as a second tall forward once King is back.
  • NAS rotating 50/50 half back and mid.
  • Mitchito 50/50 forward and mid.
  • any others?

Scrimshaw who is a very good kick and in the past has been a big part of their defensive plan is playing vfl.

I can see it getting ugly for the hawks, with some big names coming back in the vfl and a couple of automatic inclusions out injured the squeeze will be on.
Always seemed odd to me that they chased both of them. Thinking they went after both hoping to get one and then landed up with two they had to take or egg all over their faces.

Unfortunately that's not his problem. History shows that deals get done if they need to get done, maybe Papley aside.

If he wants badly enough to go home and they're offering a good salary then he'll go.

Most likely trade is Nas to Port, Butters to someone, we get whatever picks those two teams can package up.
Port can't have their cake and eat it too though. Deals get done sure, are they willing to trade Butters and is he willing to be traded? It looks like an impossible deal to make with their assets and Nas's manager would be aware of that.

Amazing to me the things people jump at on here.

I've not seen any evidence in behaviour or recent history (since Ross) that gives any cause for concern re our list management or the buy in from the list.

Only negatives are media stories with nothing to substantiate them. Stories from people who have been consistently wrong about the going ons within our club.
Stories from people consistently barracking for us to fail because, you know, leagues favourite whipping boy.

And especially now, shock horror, when we dare to stand up and ruffle some feathers.

These are Windhager’s career numbers.
These numbers don’d demand automatic selection in the best 23 moving forward.
His 2025 numbers are up, which indicates growth, and he’s done a number of great tagging roles but he still hasn’t proven to be worth more than 3 years on $500k.

Not suggesting that what Hardie is saying is remotely accurate but I’d be annoyed if we were back to overpaying GOPs after all of the work we’d done to get our salary cap in order.
Just shooting the breeze but say he wants another $100K and we won’t pay it - fair enough.

And the result is NWM is pxxxxd off and says I’m out, Windy goes elsewhere and Mitch is pxxxxd off but has to stay due to his contract (but who knows sometimes players are traded later on). At a stretch maybe even some other Indigenous guys aren’t happy with Windy going.

Let’s just say that might happen - If so I’ll find the $100K given the bigger picture especially since Windy is one of the young guys setting the training standards.

Windy seems to be a super solid citizen and standard setter - agreed no superstar but still has upside - think bigger picture and don’t let the house of cards fall down and potentially lose a generational talent for a few bucks.

I reckon if you've considered those factors, then so have the club & I'd take Brad Hardie's suggestion with the grain of salt that it's worth.

Not their fault. You can blame the Players Association for that

It's not even the Players Association tbh. The AFLPA pushed for free agency but that's not what would happen here - Nas is just at the end of his contract and you can't force someone to sign a contract when they don't want to.

Not sure how the player movement system would deal with this. We have the option of not delisting him until after the draft then picking him up in the PSD and forcing him to either play for us or sit the year out, but hands up anyone who thinks that's likely?

It's not likely, but in that situation you described, it's long overdue that someone tested the system in this way.

I like your thinking of Cooper to a wing... drifting up forward like Mason does.

I'd amend NAS to full time mid for the rest of the year.

Also Max Hall to do some more midfield minutes as well as Mitch.

Another is throwing Wilson through the middle more often.

I'm leaning towards trading out Steele for a 2nd rounder whilst he still has some currency as well as Marshall (presuming that TDK comes of course).

Tauru 50/50 back and fwd.

That’s a disappointment if so
Yes
Get the picks

We might be too pure for our own good.

Play kids last games develop much as possible enough with papering over crack wins against crap sides ffs

If you look at our remaining games, many are certainly winnable. Even with mainly kids we may win enough to have us finishing 5th last or higher.

Yes I too hope to have a low enough draft pick to have our choice of a mid before too many other Clubs. But we can finish anywhere from 4th last to 7th last.

At 6/7th last, if the Blues go below, then the TDK FA Compo pushes us back...so the Blues get 2 picks before ours.

Thereabouts you could have 2, maybe even3 GCS Academy matches (Suns currently have pick 8) sliding in front of us, 1 Lions Academy, 1 maybe two Swans Academy and FA Compo to WCE and the Blues if they go under us. Our first pick could slide a fair bit.

Probably. But when an arseh*le like SOS is running negotiations, Port actually do need something to make it happen. They might also need AFL approval due given they've used 1 first rounder in 3 years and bringing in Nas would mean none for the next 3 years. The AFL has the power to say no to that.

Given everything we've been vocal about this year, I also wouldn't be shocked if SOS sent Nas to the draft on principal and if Wc or Richmond dont take him, draft him again. We are already arguing with the AFL about the unfairness of the system so I cant see him lying down to be screwed over with our best player leaving. It's very unlikely it would get to that stage but it wouldnt be as simple as just take whatever Port throw at us. SOS has history not doing that.

I'd get used to the idea of receiving a future 1st, and 2 2nd round picks if it comes to it.

The Saints will take what they can get, or he'll walk to the draft. SOS has nothing to bargain with

Bergman might come back on the table if it gets to that too TBH.

Bergman and a future first remains a strong possibility IMO.

We will probably beat Tigers and North. The 2 swing games are Dees and Bombers. Need to lose both of those to ensure we finish below them.

Would be more then happy to pick our least experienced team possible for each of those games.
