North or Richmond (even West Coast) would swoop and could certainly afford whatever ****ed price he puts on his head.

I certainly dont advocate for bending over but if he wants to go and nominates Port then were better off accepting unders within reason than letting him walk.

We have a pick before Port. Use it of they threaten that.
If he enters the national draft wed be ****ing insane to use pick 3 (or 4 or 5) on him knowing hell just want to leave again anyway.

If he enters the PSD North, Richmond and West Coast (minimum) all have picks before us and will take him.

We have no leverage. Obviously if port offers a 3rd rounder or something ricidulous dont just accept it but if its a future first plus a good player or two firsts wed be stupid to let him walk to the draft.

He's better than anyway we could get in the draft so why not. You take him again and Port then have two years to come up with an appropriate trade.

You wanna sacrifice taking a pick 3 (potentially) who statistically is gonna be a 10-15 year player for 2 years of NAS who then probably walks again anyway and is likely completely unmotivated to play for a club thats held him ransom anyway...

Not a great plan imo.

My biggest gripe with the national draft, is players choosing to enter it, while only wanting to play in one state. If they don't want to leave their state, they shouldn't enter the National Draft.

I like your thinking of Cooper to a wing... drifting up forward like Mason does.

I'd amend NAS to full time mid for the rest of the year.

Also Max Hall to do some more midfield minutes as well as Mitch.

Another is throwing Wilson through the middle more often.

I'm leaning towards trading out Steele for a 2nd rounder whilst he still has some currency as well as Marshall (presuming that TDK comes of course).
Trading your captain & a still very good player out / one of the best rucks in the league for second rounders does a tonne more damage than good.

If someone wants to overpay for them that’s another matter, but it’s unlikely.

Top 10 picks get 3 year contracts don't they ?

We will probably beat Tigers and North. The 2 swing games are Dees and Bombers. Need to lose both of those to ensure we finish below them.

Would be more then happy to pick our least experienced team possible for each of those games.

On the pessimistic side with the Blues remaining fixture it is not that far fetched that they could lose every remaining game. The Dons being their easiest. 2 wins gets us potentially above them.

Dees and Port have both traded out their FRP, so they have no incentive to tank. Blues have extra incentive to tank due to TDK FA compo pick.

To be clear im not defending the system at all. It sucks but were subject to it.

Not sure TBH, is that the same if youre re entering the draft? I know with PSD you nominate.

In any event even if its 3 years, its not smart business.

"Fair value" is subjective. A future first and Bergman (or some other former first) or two firsts isnt fair value but it might be all we can get and its a hell of alot better than letting him walk and someone else getting him free (North can probably afford to have him for 2-3 years then trade him).

If Port offer two firsts or something else reasonable then wed be dumb to let him walk and re draft him.

I'd rather take a stand then accept a future first and some borderline useable 2nd rounders.

If they are going to lure a clubs best player, it's their responsibility to have the appropriate picks to make that happen. And nothing to replace that player the year they take them is not good enough. The onus should be on Port to come up with a deal, not on us to accept whatever they can scrounge together.

Problem is short of them shifting Butters our way, I can't see an unders within reason. The Horne-Francis and Lukosius trades mean they don't have a first this year and have to ask permission to trade their future first (got to use 2 in 4 years). They'd get the permission but a future first and whatever chump change they throw alongside it is a long, long way off a reasonable value.

Should be is the key point.

It SHOULD but it ain’t really.

A player has to nominate to be selected in the National Draft as well as MSD.

If a player has not nominated they cannot be selected.

I think the only exception to this are Cat B Rookies who can be directly drafted by Clubs if the player meets the Cat B requirements

If NWM did decide to go, unlikely, then a player of Bergman’s calibre would have to be part of the deal. Er can’t be resetting the team build by a couple of years.
Berg plus 1st rounder and possibly more.

If he is to leave I’d have a crack at trying to include Georgiadis or Ollie Lord in the deal, if we put up some decent cash they might consider the move.

Fair. Future first and Bergman feels fairish.

He wants to leave so we’re not gonna get full market value.

Will take a loss in all of of our remaining games except against the dirty drug cheats.

Really hate those C's

Then he walks to the draft, and we get nothing.

If he chooses to leave, he's not going to sign with St Kilda just because Port don't have the capital for a fair deal

And if his objective is to get back to SA, how does walking to the draft accomplish that exactly?

Jeezus there's some absolute drivel spewed onto here at times.

If he wants to go, we agree to a deal, or he stays. He cannot go to the draft and state that he will only play for an SA club, that's outright draft tampering and he would be out of the AFL........

NWM loves the club, and that is stated fact in the public domain. If he were to leave it would only be because of the desire to get back to SA.....If a club from SA cannot come up with a suitable deal, then he won't be traded, simple. What is the purpose of walking to the draft and ending up at Richmond or WCE...????

The AFL still have to sign off on any trade, and if Port offered pick 55 and a packet of Twisties, then the AFL would not sign off on the deal, as it is patently unfair. The negative media storm if they allowed something like that to happen would make everything that has come before it look like a party.
