A paywall bypasser is needed but some good points are raised in this article.

These stats would have blown my mind ten years ago.

Among the 108 ICC Members:

- 41 countries have seen both men’s & women’s teams play international matches.

- 29 countries have played women’s internationals only.

- 18 countries have played men’s internationals only.

- 4 teams are yet to play (but matches are planned!): Lesotho, Turkey, South Korea, Kenya.

- 14* teams so far have no matches planned this year: Chile, Suriname, Gambia, Mali, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Saint Helena, Seychelles, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Maldives, Myanmar (though Maldives & Myanmar played U16).

- 7 Non-ICC nations have played or will play: El Salvador, Colombia, Aruba, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine.

- 2 ICC members have played against non-members: 🇧🇿 Belize & 🇵🇪 Peru.

This is mostly T20 cricket. It has the power to grow the game internationally in a way that red-ball cricket just can't.

That would be this year I presume? Would make sense when saying Kenya are yet to play. T20 at the Olympics should be another stepping stone for international cricket but slightly disappointed that only six teams each for men and women will compete.

Yes, that's so far this year.

The rain abandoned matches are having a bit of a say in that.
True but I kind of think one cant underestimate Italys team with Manetti brothers, and Joe Burns in that lineup.

Yesterday, Scotland beat Netherlands.

Italy beat Scotland.

I dont think anyone can begrudge deserve to be top of the ladder. Italy play Netherlands in the last group game.

I would have like to see a double round robin for the 5 teams. 20 games instead of 10 ...you could complete those games inside 1.5 weeks.

At worst, they should have a reserve day for the games of this magnitude. The rain affected match for Scotland may end up costing them a World Cup spot.

I think its Corey Rutgers in commentary in the Guernsey v Netherlands, is talking about the introduction of maybe a European Continental comp including possibly the likes of England and Ireland.

For T20 I think it could definitely be a viable idea.

With the Dutch and Italy playing last, there could be a scenario where both teams play in a way, that allow both teams qualify for the World Cup. Keep that in mind in the final game of the qualifiers, with the current standings being:

With Scotland v Jersey being played before the Italy v Holland game. I worked out in my calculations,

a)
in a scenario where Jersey bat first, and post 110 from their 20 overs. Scotland would have to chase that inside 7.5 overs to overtake Italy on NRR

b)
In a scenario where Scotland bat first and say post 180 from their 20 overs. Scotland would have to bowl Jersey under 70 to overtake Italy on NRR.

The toss will be crucial for Scotland keep their chances of qualifying alive one feels.

What would be ideal for Scotland scenario playing first up on the last day of qualifying? They would want to get that NRR ahead of Italys or as close as possible.

There is huge stakes at play here. This has the potential to fasttrack Italy as a cricketing nation, or potentially put the country back for another decade. And for the Dutch, qualification is seen as a minimum .......especially on home soil.

Hve you ever been to Italy?

Nobody is suggesting cricket will take over as the national sport, but being able to compete at associate level consistently would be a great next step, particularly if it is on the back of a solid domestic comp.
At the very least a great opportunity for state 2nd xi and minor county players with italian grandparents to get an international jersey.

On a side note does anyone in here know much about Corey Rutgers? He commentates alot of the European cricket series , and has been assigned with most of the Euro ICC qualifiers. Been a big believer in the European nations in cricket. He did mention last night that if the Asia Cup has their own sort of continental tournament, then Europe is at a stage where they could have their own version......and if you have Ireland and England in there , I guess it would add more competition and credibility was the gist I got with that.

Sounds like a very strong Australian accent, and Perth accent if I suspect.

He played grade cricket in Perth and coaches Spain these days I believe.
