I have to say, I'm a bit anti SOS to be honest!! Does he do anything except chase Carlton rejects??
I know I don't know the intricacies of the club, but according to reports we are about to give the biggest contract of all time to a ruckman, don't get me wrong, he can play, but $1.7mil per year? That should've been offered to Nas, not the $1.2mil reported & why did he only receive an offer from us last week??
We have 16 players out of contract, 6 of which should be signed, but one of them, Max Hall, according to media, has not received an offer yet & why are we risking Windy leaving??

I could be well out of line here, but to be perfectly honest, they should be looking after our own backyard first & tying up the players we want to keep instead of publicly throwing money at everyone else's players!!

Never saw that coming show, seriously why are we the team that always stuffs things up. This was always on the cards, the hold my beer stupidity got old decades ago.

The only glimmer of hope if true is he’s contracted, has played some senior footy and WC rate him, maybe we get back close to what we used to pick him.

Here’s a revolutionary idea. When you have a local kid who looks like being a superstar the club needs to back themselves in and do what it takes to move up and draft him. Now I know this can get expensive but try bringing a Callahan back and see what it costs in both contract and picks.

So we want to get in before any Fincher bid, if these hypothetical trade requests happen, then we get Aleer + something, or a second round pick for Steele? Sam De Koning + something, or a first round pick for Marshall? Then package 2 first round picks + Collard for Harley Reid?
Or we look at trading up to get 2 x top 10 picks this year (trade with GC for pick 8)? I wouldn't be trading our '26 first if we are offloading Marshall and Steele, I feel we will most likely have another down year if we lose those two.

This narrative annoys me. I mean, Keels is an actual distant relation to Nas, both grew up in Port Augusta from teens onwards. We have the most indigenous guys in the AFL. As for Port, hell Horne-Francis didn't even know he was indigenous until a couple of years ago.

No way I'm taking a 2nd for Steele, not this year.

By all reports the 2nd round will go well into the 50's, especially for the sorts of clubs that would want Steele, or where he'd want to go.

The chance a pick in the 50's giving us more over a career is pretty slim vs what Steele can give us over another 2 or 3 years. It's not like we need his salary off the books, and regardless if you think he's an ordinary skipper, or his form has dipped a bit this year - and he's well and truly earning a spot in our 22, and there's no-one really banging down the door who just cant get opportunities in the senior team.

Nothing to do with Steele but just re 2nd round going into the 50s, I think it'll be the other way around. With the new DVI, picks that are originally in the 40s will end up in the 30s. The picks to match the bids have to come from somewhere. The tipping point was around pick 43 last year (Essendon/Brisbane had a stack of picks in the 30s to match their first round bids). It'll likely be much earlier this year

Now that teams can't bunch together a half dozen 3rd/4th rounders to match a top 10 pick, they will need to use much better picks to get the points to match which will bring later picks in by quite a distance

IMO the real distortion now comes from FA compo rather than academy/FS bid matching. I'd like to see teams who acquire players via free agency have to give up some draft capital that resembles the pick that is manufactured for the other team, rather than it being a total free hit. Maybe the points equivalent of the next band or something. Might take some of the "free" out of the free agency but at least it'd keep the draft a bit more equitable

Have heard that US style sign-and-trade stuff is coming here, Bergman would be a part of any deal. They don't have anywhere near the trade capital to get a deal done in my view though. Neither do Adelaide for that matter.

Where there’s smoke there’s usually fire, and this thing has ‘bushfire’ written all over it. He’s been undecided for months. I call BS. My wife chooses what she wants for dinner quicker than this. He’s just holding out until seasons end.
