It’s not treating anyone in any way other than what they deserve, if you’re not here next year then you don’t belong at afl level at a club out of finals contentions.

All this good guy pearl clutching nonsense hasn’t done us one bit of good. When players choose to leave the club all their owed is a handshake and best wishes at best.

Maybe we should drive him around marvel in an open top so we can all throw roses and cheer, I bet that would impress potential recruits. Maybe it’s just me but hard and fair seems a lot more attractive to me in a football club than weak and fawning.

Excellence requires a lot of things including being ruthless when and we’re it’s needed.
Nah. I do see your frustration and don't doubt your passion, but it's just not the way forward.

No one is suggesting celebrating the bloke if he decides to leave. You are the only one talking about that.

But if you think treating players like sh*t is the way forward for a successful club, you honestly don't have any idea.

If you can't fire up when you club is on its knees you are a bit of a soft $&^%. If I was playing for any club I'd want to be able to respect myself and teammates by performing at my absolute best.
6 CBA’s last night. Crazy Vossy is at fault.
Ball coming in more sideways than Cordy at a mad Monday too btw.

Maybe its the half Yawkey way suggestion.

Were not gonna play you in the twos, were gonna make you suffer the embarassment of playing ones with a bunch of shit trucks who wanna be out there even less than you... One out... In the goalsquare... against Harris Andrews.

Go **** yourself Tom.

Message for NAS:

I’m done.

Man up, and make a decision.
A career is short, you can move home afterwards.
It’s an hour’s flight ffs.
American sportsmen and Premier league soccer players are expected to move across the country at the drop of a hat.
Some of us packed up leaving family and friends and history behind and moved thousands of kilometres away from home.

I’m aware that a lot of this is probably driven by his manager to try and squeeze everything they can out of us - but don’t hold the club and it’s supporters to ransom.

Where is my message about us having a mental health day

If there’s one Blues player I feel sorry for, it’s him.
Poor guy’s just about done his back carrying his team.
He’s right in the Rooey circa 2011-12 period; the real flag bubble has burst without a medal, so what now? One club legend or chase the dream elsewhere? Not even the most puerile Blues supporters would begrudge him leaving now I wouldn’t think.

Held up a mirror which in tdk’s case is perfectly acceptable.

If TDK is playing dead that’s not a great look, if that’s his best it’s an eye opener and maybe Carlton’s fans won’t be so cut up when the compo pick rolls in.

Anyway you look at it guys who are out the door don’t deserve the flowers and chocolates treatment imo. The only one where you have to show some grudging mutual respect is where you’re playing finals.

He has it way worse than Rooey, who at least got to appear in 3 grand finals, and considerable lesser finals.

You’re entitled to your opinion but we do live in a player first world.

Dropping Nas to the twos if he could announce (or tell us he was going) would be a pretty shitty thing to do and reputationally would be damaging.

Put the shoe on the other foot too, when we dangled Battle last year and he decided to leave would you be fine with him sitting out? He’s leaving anyway, we pushed him out the door. Seems only fair.

💯
Carlton know he is gone, so are playing him out of position.
If we see Naz parked in a forward pocket for the last 6 games, you can draw your own conclusions.
Have constantly said TDK is being over offered, but to think he is not going at 100% for the clown show that is Carlton gratifies me.
We don't know the environment with his teammates. Might be a lot of jealousy, he can go half arsed, dial it in and at the end of the season he walks on 1.7 mill, while those poor bastards are stuck there.
As I said last night, was hoping he belted Cameron and got a 7 week suspension.

If this was an employee of mine, I would be putting the contract on the table and say come back with your answer in 48hrs. If not, then we move on and let him go elsewhere if he wants to. A talented player, but he and his management are holding the club to ransom, knowing we are desperate to hold on to top talent, but time for the club to drive the decision and show some spine from the top.

That’s just not at all how to engage with young employees at any level let alone sport stars.

Steady on, we’ve seen what happens when you have a bunch of kids with a few journeyman and it isn’t pretty.

Imo we can’t carry a lot more youth remembering that we’ll say goodby to several more older players over the next 2 years. I would keep Marshall but he probably leaves and that makes some sense as he has potentially 1st round value and we are replacing him with TDK. Steele has little value and as such is more valuable staying, Wilkie is a gun and we don’t have a replacement on the list. Sinclair is untouchable for a variety of reasons including falling value due to age.

Take your Nas trade if it happens, this years 1st and next years 1st. Imo that’s all you need, just can’t carry anymore and stay competitive. You’d also need to move Ross the boss aside, director of coaching ?. Anyway we can’t saddle him with a full rebuild after a quite attempt to rebuild and would we even want him at the helm.

If you work through the blow up the place scenario it’s likely to be a long, long time before the sun comes out again. GWS, GC, North have been at it how long ?. Take a look at LDU he’s about 120 + games in and has what 20 odd wins.

I really think if we did that then it could be the end of us. You have to remember that the music stops with Tassie joining, relocation is dead. So it’s a merger from here on in and you need a partner for that.
If NAS goes we are half way towards a full rebuild anyway. Unless we get Butters or JHF back, which we won't there are no ready made players that move the needle and keep us competitive.

Which means picks, so everything gets pushed back a few years. So essentially if NAS goes you can absolutley forget about us being competitive in the next 2 years. I have NFI how we would score at all if he wasn't playing.

So NAS gone will align with Wilkie and Sincs coming towards the end of their prime.

Whether we like it or not, NAS leaving is essentially going to kick off a full rebuild anyway, because Port won't be giving up any quality ready made players.

May as well trade Marshall and Steele if this occurs. We could keep Wilkie and Sincs around but it won't matter, they will be seeing out their career in a non finals side.

Tassie coming in is the reason to be aggressive now, not wait until it's too late.

yeah and your employee would think you're an insufferable old prick and walk the next day. There's no rush, only your anxious little brain cant handle the idea that he doesn't love you. He's still showing up every week, and if anything the situation is getting the best out of him (which believe it or not, is good for us). He'll make the decision when he needs to. The better he plays the better it is for us either way. "Moving on" from him if he doesn't sign now is a surefire way of getting a lesser return at the trade table should he decide to leave.

Aaaaagh why do I even read this stupid forum wasting my damn time fml

Typed a reply but had a problem and it disappeared.

So a much shorter one, Sinn was picked after Nas we passed, you obviously wouldn’t trade up every year.

If you can’t see the advantages of moving up to grab the player that your paid professional staff have identified as a generational talent then I can’t help you. Does it not seem strange to you that the cost of moving up is roughly the same as what you’d pay if you could get the same player 3 years later minus the massive contract and competition from every other club.

Case in point Callahan or Anderson who according to itk’s we could have had twice. What did Carlton pay to move up and grab Jagga smith ?, kid looks a gun I doubt they’ll regret it.

We have been a stupid poorly run club yet cry when our actions meet the consequence's. We’ll leave no stone unturned apparently yet this is an obvious one we have talked about but have never had the courage of our convictions and actually made happen.

If there was a gun mid in this graft that the club though was a 10 year AA I’d do it without hesitation.

Hey don’t worry though we’ll eventually land a gun like Nas or draft a mid and if all else fails pull of a brilliant move like TDK on $1.7 million.
I think we’re getting lost in translation.

FA wise I agree don’t go after TDK makes zero sense to me. You can just get picks out of think air though re Finn and Noah.

You draft the best you can which we have done.

I thought about that - but no.
Not even close.
Roo at least had 10 years of finals and Grand Finals.
Yes, he missed out on the ultimate, but by and large the Saints of that era were a far more successful team than the Blues have been for decades.

The sheer lack of understanding around this does my head in :tearsofjoy:
It’s purely frustration and fear of losing the best player we’ve had in 10 years talking - and you know that.

It comes up every year around trade time, people just have no idea what negotiation is about and how to navigate it.

“If I was x I would tell them they have until y to do z”

Completely arse about.
